Using terrestrial osmium-enriched samples of known ages, we have shown that187Os/186Os varies with time in result of the187Re β? radioactivity. Such a variation in the earth's mantle can be fitted by a straight line corresponding to187Re/186Os = 3.15 for the mantle, comparable to C1 carbonaceous chondrites. Using this result and the Re and Os contents of various rocks, several theoretical considerations and predictions can be deduced for the chemical evolution of the earth, such as a method for distinguishing between different processes of development of the continental crust. The special result of187Os/186Os from Bushveld is discussed with respect to the possible existence of an “enriched” subcontinental mantle. 相似文献

Summary Approximate expressions for elementary seismograms of seismic body waves propagating in media with small causal absorption are derived. Special attention is devoted to modulated signals with a smooth envelope, for which especially simple formulae were obtained. Foum Tatahouine is one of the rare meteorites that allow studying weathering effects since their fall on Earth. The comparison between clasts collected the very day of the fall (1931) and in 1994 showed some chemical modifications. We report data obtained on samples collected in 2000. The purpose of this study is: (1) to define (REE, Sr isotopes) the terrestrial weathering origin that is to be found in soil carbonates, (2) to show (Sr, Rb, REE) that the weathering effects are small on centimetre-sized samples, and (3) to emphasise (HREE) Foum Tatahouine samples heterogeneity. Second- and third-order fault-bounded Precambrian basins frequently host deposits of the sedimentary massive sulphide group.
Three-dimensional geometric modelling of the thickness of preserved basin-fill successions of the Transvaal Supergroup, using
DATAMINE software, and residual gravity modelling of the contemporary basement floor, help delineate areas of exploration
potential in this unit. Two main depositional axes are tentatively identified for the basal volcano-sedimentary protobasinal
Transvaal successions. A sheet-like geometry was indicated for the succeeding Black Reef sandstones and Chuniespoort Group
chemical sedimentary rocks. The uppermost Pretoria Group thickness model delineates eastern and western second-order basins
separated by a central submerged palaeohigh. A similar isopach pattern is noted for the thick shales of the Silverton Formation
in this group, with, in addition, a well-defined third-order basin in the northwest of the western second-order basin. The
residual gravity model indicates two linear palaeovalleys adjacent to this western basin, one coincident with one of the axes
inferred for the protobasinal rocks. The fault-bounded second- and third-order basins and depositional axes postulated here
are consistent with known geological data and suggested sedimentation models. Cumulative distortions implicit in the DATAMINE
computer modelling technique are reduced when the method is applied on the basin-wide scale, enabling identification of regional
exploration target areas rather than immediate prospecting targets.

Parachute-assisted gravity sediment corer (Algonquin Corer) 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Details are outlined for the construction and use of an easily constructed and inexpensive parachute-assisted, gravity-driven, sediment coring device. This corer has been named the Algonquin corer since it was designed, tested and constructed at École Secondaire Algonquin, North Bay, Ontario. This corer utilizes an underwater parachute to effectively control and stabilize its descent, and a driving mechanism (hammer) to increase the penetration of the corer. Other innovative features are its corrective mercury and magnetic switches, which allow the user to precisely monitor both the position of the driving mechanism and the corer's angle of sediment penetration. These optional features may be constructed for use with this particular corer or constructed separately to enhance existing coring devices. Details of these features are provided and their functions outlined. The versatile features, cost-effectiveness and ease of construction of the Algonquin corer make it an effective and practical tool for conducting sediment analysis studies at all levels. The easternmost domain of the Borborema Province, northeastern Brazil, presents widespread, extensional-related high-temperature metamorphism during the Brasiliano (=Pan-African) orogeny. This event reached the upper amphibolite to granulite facies and provoked generalized migmatization of Proterozoic metapelitic rocks of the Seridó Group and tonalitic to granodioritic orthogneisses of the Archean to Paleoproterozoic basement. We report new geochronological data based on electron microprobe dating of monazite from metapelitic migmatite and leuconorite within the high-T shear zones that make up the eastern continuation of the huge E–W Patos shear belt. These data were also constrained by using the Sm–Nd isotopic systematic on garnet from a syntectonic alkaline granite and two garnet-bearing leucosomes. The results suggest an age of about 578 to 574 Ma for the peak of the widespread high-T metamorphism. This event is best recorded by Sm–Nd garnet-whole rock ages. The U–Th–Pb isotopes on monazite of the metapelitic migmatite show a younger thermal event at 553 ± 10 Ma. When compared to the Sm–Nd garnet-whole rock ages, the U–Th–Pb electron probe monazite ages seem to record an event of slightly lower temperatures after the peak of the high-T metamorphism. This may reflect the difference in the isotopic behavior of the geochronological methods employed. Otherwise, the U–Th–Pb ages on monazites could indicate an event not yet very well defined. In anyway, this paper reveals the partial or even complete re-opening and resetting of the U–Th–Pb isotopic system produced by the action of low-T Ca-rich fluid. 相似文献

Surface‐related multiples are attenuated for one sail line and one streamer of a 3D data set (courtesy of Compagnie Générale de Géophysique). The survey was carried out in the Gulf of Mexico in the Green Canyon area where salt intrusions close to the water‐bottom are present. Because of the complexity of the subsurface, a wavefield method incorporating the full 3D volume of the data for multiple removal is necessary. This method comprises modelling of the multiples, where the data are used as a prediction operator, and a subtraction step, where the model of the multiples is adaptively removed from the data with matching filters. The accuracy of the multiple model depends on the source/receiver coverage at the surface. When this coverage is not dense enough, the multiple model contains errors that make successful subtraction more difficult. In these circumstances, one can either (1) improve the modelling step by interpolating the missing traces, (2) improve the subtraction step by designing methods that are less sensitive to modelling errors, or (3) both. For this data set, the second option is investigated by predicting the multiples in a 2D sense (as opposed to 3D) and performing the subtraction with a pattern‐based approach. Because some traces and shots are missing for the 2D prediction, the data are interpolated in the in‐line direction using a hyperbolic Radon transform with and without sparseness constraints. The interpolation with a sparseness constraint yields the best multiple model. For the subtraction, the pattern‐based technique is compared with a more standard, adaptive‐subtraction scheme. The pattern‐based approach is based on the estimation of 3D prediction‐error filters for the primaries and the multiples, followed by a least‐squares estimation of the primaries. Both methods are compared before and after prestack depth migration. These results suggest that, when the multiple model is not accurate, the pattern‐based method is more effective than adaptive subtraction at removing surface‐related multiples while preserving the primaries. 相似文献
