This study focused on the electrochemical degradation of hydrolyzed Remazol Black B (CI Reactive Black 5), a common diazo reactive dye, in aqueous solution. In the presence of various auxiliary dye chemicals, a typical Remazol Black simulated exhausted dyebath liquor was treated electrochemically in various basic electrochemical reactor configurations such as batch, batch recirculation and single pass systems. The effect of current density, supporting electrolyte concentration, electrolysis duration, specific electrode surface and fluid flow rate on pollutant removal and energy consumption performance of the systems was critically evaluated. Batch studies show the following operating parameters, current density: 2.5 A/dm2, electrolysis duration: 6 h, and supporting electrolyte concentration: 3 g/L, were optimal for good overall performance of the system. Color removal was complete by 3 h of treatment for all combinations of parameters studied. The pollutant removal performance of the batch recirculation system was found to have improved considerably by increasing the flow rate. Performance of the batch recirculation system was comparatively better than the other rector configurations studied, with respect to capacity utilization and energy consumption.  相似文献

Observations of interplanetary scintillation (IPS) allow accurate solar wind velocity measurements to be made at all heliographic latitudes and at a range of distances from the Sun. The data may be obtained with either single, double or multiple antennas, each requiring a different method of analysis. IPS data taken during the 1998 whole sun month (30th July–31st August 1998) by EISCAT, the ORT (Ooty Radio Telescope), India, and the Nagoya IPS system, Japan, allow the results of individual methods of analysis to be compared. Good agreement is found between the velocity measurements using each method, and when combined an improved understanding of the structure of the solar wind can be obtained.On leave from the Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad 380 009, India  相似文献

Udupi coast in Karnataka state, along the west coast of India, selected as a study area, is well known for sandy beaches, aquaculture ponds, lush greenery, temples and major and minor industries. It lies between 13°00′00″–13°45′00″ north latitudes and 74°47′30″–74°30′00″ east longitudes, the length of the coastline is 95 km, and is oriented along the NNW–SSE direction. It is vulnerable to accelerated sea level rise (SLR) due to its low topography and its high ecological and touristy value. The present study has been carried out with a view to calculate the coastal vulnerability index (CVI) to know the high and low vulnerable areas and area of inundation due to future SLR, and land loss due to coastal erosion. Both conventional and remotely sensed data were used and analysed through the modelling technique and by using ERDAS Imagine and geographical information system software. The rate of erosion was 0.6018 km2/yr during 2000–2006 and around 46 km of the total 95 km stretch is under critical erosion. Out of the 95 km stretch coastline, 59% is at very high risk, 7% high, 4% moderate and 30% in the low vulnerable category, due to SLR. Results of the inundation analysis indicate that 42.19 km2 and 372.08 km2 of the land area will be submerged by flooding at 1 m and 10 m inundation levels. The most severely affected sectors are expected to be the residential and recreational areas, agricultural land, and the natural ecosystem. As this coast is planned for future coastal developmental activities, measures such as building regulation, urban growth planning, development of an integrated coastal zone management, strict enforcement of the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) Act 1991, monitoring of impacts and further research in this regard are recommended for the study area.  相似文献

This study was aimed to investigate three inversion models (currently in use with Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer and Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor data processing), namely constrained Linear Matrix (LM), Quasi-analytical algorithm (QAA) and GSM semi-analytical models (GSM). These models were applied to large bio-optical data sets (collected from coastal and open sea waters around Korea) to retrieve inherent optical properties (IOPs) such as absorption coefficients of phytoplankton (a ph ), colored dissolved and detrital organic matters (a cdm ), and particulate backscattering coefficient (b bp ) at five wavelengths (412, 443, 490, 510, and 555 nm). The derived IOP products were compared with in situ a ph , a cdm and b bp coefficients measured for the same remote sensing reflectance (R rs (λ)) data sets used in the models and the uncertainties of the three models were assessed based on the standard statistical procedures (mean relative error MRE, root mean square error RMSE, slope, and coefficient of determination R 2). It was found that all the three models tended to yield significant errors with varying magnitude at different wavelengths. Overall performance of the models assessed based on the above statistical means was found in the following order: LM > GSM > QAA for retrieving the a ph , LM > GSM > QAA for retrieving the a cdm , and QAA > GSM > LM for retrieving the b bp . Our analyses suggest that these models will require additional refinements with a full parameterization by a fully suited data set in order to produce accurate retrievals of IOPs in coastal and open sea waters around Korea.  相似文献

Core sediments from the Muthupettai mangroves on the southeast coast of India were analyzed for soil texture,total nitrogen,organic carbon,phosphorus and heavy metals(Fe,Mn,Cr,Cu,Ni,Pb,Zn and Cd).The distinct seasonal variation in the distribution of metals in the sediments was observed.The minimum concentration was recorded in river mouth and the maximum was in lagoon.High metal concentration in sediment was observed during monsoon and low concentration in summer.The total nu-trient in lagoon and river mouth was recorded in the range of 4.528 to 8.526 mg g-1 for organic carbon,2.213 to 10.5 mg g-1 for nitro-gen and 0.824 to 7.22 mg g-1.  相似文献

Groundwater is a vital source of water for industrial, domestic and agricultural activities in Tuticorin city due to lack of surface water resources; groundwater quality and its suitability for drinking usage were evaluated. A total of 72 groundwater samples were collected from open wells and boreholes during pre and post-monsoon period. Samples were analyzed for physico-chemical properties, major cation and major anions in the laboratory using the standard methods given by the American Public Health Association. The geographic information system-based spatial distribution map of different major elements has been prepared using ArcGIS 9.2. These maps are classified as desirable, maximum permissible and the values that exceed maximum permissible limit are termed as not permissible prescribed by the WHO (2004). From the Piper plot, which gives the cation chemistry, the concentration of the alkalies (Na+ and K+) exceeds the alkaline earths (Ca2+ and Mg2+) and those of strong acids exceeds weak acids. In the case of anions, during the two periods strong acid shows dominance over weak acid and HCO3 ? and Cl? have influences almost equal to Na+, which indicate the saltwater intrusion into the freshwater aquifer of the study area. A Canadian Council of Ministers for the Environment Water Quality Index (CCME WQI) map was also generated with the GIS technique to better understand the water portability over space. The categories of water quality evaluated by CCME WQI values of major part of the study area fall under fair category during PRM and good category during the POM period. The CCME WQI is a very useful and an efficient tool to summarize and to report on the monitoring data to the decision makers in order to understand the status of the groundwater quality. Finally, the study concludes that the groundwater quality is impaired by man-made activities, and proper management plan is necessary to protect valuable groundwater resources in Tuticorin city.  相似文献

The main aim of this study is to propose a novel hybrid deep learning framework approach for accurate mapping of debris covered glaciers. The framework comprises of integration of several CNNs architecture, in which different combinations of Landsat 8 multispectral bands (including thermal band), topographic and texture parameters are passed as input for feature extraction. The output of an ensemble of these CNNs is hybrid with random forest model for classification. The major pillars of the framework include: (1) technique for implementing topographic and atmospheric corrections (preprocessing), (2) the proposed hybrid of ensemble of CNNs and random forest classifier, and (3) procedures to determine whether a pixel predicted as snow is a cloud edge/shadow (post-processing). The proposed approach was implemented on the multispectral Landsat 8 OLI (operational land imager)/TIRS (thermal infrared sensor) data and Shuttle Radar Topography Mission Digital Elevation Model for the part of the region situated in Alaknanda basin, Uttarakhand, Himalaya. The proposed framework was observed to outperform (accuracy 96.79%) the current state-of-art machine learning algorithms such as artificial neural network, support vector machine, and random forest. The use of geosynthetics as a ground improvement technique offers the advantages such as space saving, environmental sensitivity, material availability, technical superiority, higher cost savings and less construction time. Coir geotextiles can be considered as an efficient replacement to its synthetic counterparts due to its economy and excellent engineering properties. The present study aims at exploring the possibilities of utilising coir geocells as a potential reinforcement material for shallow foundations and thereby increasing the load carrying capacity of soil. Geocells were fabricated from coir geotextiles with the aim of providing an additional confinement to the soil. An enumerated parametric study was conducted by varying the relative density, depth of the first layer, width and height of coir geocell. The surface displacement profiles of the non-reinforced and coir geocell-reinforced soil indicate that the footing rotation and heave are considerably reduced with the provision of geocell. The results of the relative density study indicate that bearing capacity characteristics increase with denseness of the soil sample. It was also observed that geocell arrangement and configuration play a pivotal role in the performance characteristics of reinforced soil.  相似文献

A study of the inter-annual variability of the warming of the southeastern Arabian Sea (SEAS) during the spring transition months was carried out from 2013 to 2015 based on in situ data from moored buoys. An attempt was made to identify the roles of the different variables in the warming of the SEAS (e.g., net heat flux, advection, entrainment, and thickness of the barrier layer during the previous northeast monsoon season). The intense freshening of the SEAS (approximately 2 PSU) occurring in each December, together with the presence of a downwelling Rossby wave, supports the formation of a thick barrier layer during the northeast monsoon season. It is known that the barrier layer thickness, varying each year, plays a major role in the spring warming of the SEAS. Interestingly, an anomalously thick barrier layer occurred during the northeast monsoon season of 2012–2013. However, the highest sea surface temperature (31 °C) was recorded during the last week of April 2015, while the lowest sea surface temperature (29.7 °C) was recorded during the last week of May 2013. The mixed layer heat budget analysis during the spring transition months proved that the intense warming has been mainly supported by the net heat flux, not by other factors like advection and entrainment. The inter-annual variability analysis of the net heat flux and its components, averaged over a box region of the SEAS, showed a substantial latent heat flux release and a reduction in net shortwave radiation in 2013. Both factors contributed to the negative net heat flux. Strong breaks in the warming were also observed in May due to the entrainment of cold sub-surface waters. These events are associated with the cyclonic eddy persisting over the SEAS during the same time. The entrainment term, favoring the cooling, was stronger in 2015 than that in 2013 and 2014. The surface temperatures measured in 2013 were lower than those in 2014 and 2015 despite the presence of a thick barrier layer. The substantial decrease in net heat flux along with entrainment cooling has been identified as causes for this behavior.  相似文献
