Use of major and selected trace elements to describe mixing processes in a water reservoir 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Data on temperature, major constituents and some trace elements, measured in the dissolved and particulate phases, were used to identify the hydrodynamics of a reservoir (the Bicaz reservoir, Romania). Results revealed that the reservoir experiences two thermal stratifications per year (summer and winter). However, the summer stratification is delayed by the high river inflow of June–July. Two layers were identified, a surface and a deep layer, whose location and impact vary with time. The surface layer originates from the river inflow (intrusion layer) and the deep current is produced by the outflow (velocity current). According to season, the river inflow either supplies the deep current or remains recordable up to the dam. Consequently, the structure of the water column, and thus the biogeochemical processes within it, are governed both by thermal stratification and by these layers. 相似文献

The earthquake resistant design of structures depends upon the soil-structure interaction during seismic excitation. The dynamic behavior of surface foundations and deep foundations has been investigated by several authors (Gazetas in Soil Dyn Earthq Eng 2(1):2–42, 1983; Pecker in Dynamique des sols. Presses de l’Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées, Paris, 1984; Sieffert and Cevaer in Manuel des fonctions d’impédance. Ouest-Editions, Nantes, 1992, etc.) but the dynamic behavior of pile-reinforced soils has not been sufficiently studied yet. The design of pile-reinforced soils comprises the design of the rigid piles and the design of the earth-platform. The foundation system studied in this article consists of an earth-platform over a soft ground reinforced by deep piles. In order to understand the dynamic behavior of a rigid pile, a series of dynamic tests is conducted on an experimental site. The vertical and horizontal impedances of the slab foundation are obtained with and without rigid piles. The numerical models are developed to interpret these dynamic tests. The numerical and experimental impedance functions are compared in both the vertical and the horizontal directions. A sensitivity analysis on the influence of the physical and geometrical properties of rigid piles on the impedance functions is presented. 相似文献

This work presents the first study of the gaseous products resulting from the partial dissociation of methane and nitrogen in the PAMPRE experimental setup simulating Titan’s atmospheric chemistry.Using cryogenic trapping, the gaseous products generated from the chemical reactions occurring in the reactor have been trapped. Analyses of these products by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry have allowed the detection and identification of more than 30 reaction products. Most of them are identified as nitrile species, accompanied by aliphatic hydrocarbons and a few aromatics compounds. The observed species are in agreement with the data from the recent Cassini-Huygens mission as well as from other laboratory setups capable of dissociating nitrogen and methane. This work emphasizes the probable importance of nitrogen-bearing compounds in the chemistry taking place in Titan’s atmosphere.Furthermore, a quantification of mono-nitriles with saturated alkyl chains has been performed relatively to hydrogen cyanide and shows a power law dependence in their concentration. This dependence is consistent with the Cassini-INMS data and Titan’s photochemical models.An empirical relationship has been extracted from our experimental data: [CxH2x−1N] = 100x−5, where x is the number of carbon atoms in the nitrile molecule. This relationship can be directly used in order to foretell the concentration of heavier nitriles induced by chemistry in Titan’s atmosphere. 相似文献

The fugacity of CO2 (fCO2) was measured underway from 27 May to 5 July 2006 in the Gulf of Guinea when the upwelling conditions were taking place. The equatorial and the coastal upwellings are responsible for the large CO2 outgassing observed in the tropical Atlantic. The highest fCO2 (655 μatm) was measured in the eastern coastal upwelling. However, area of low fCO2 are also observed. Those occurred north of 2°N, in the Guinea Current, and near 6°S close to the coast due to the Congo River discharge. The decrease of salinity is a major factor explaining low fCO2. In the South Equatorial Counter Current region, south of 6°S near 10°W, low fCO2 are not related to a salinity effect as this region is subject to excess evaporation. A comparison with the meridional transects of the RMS St Helena made in 1995–1996 near 15°W suggests that these low fCO2 or even slight undersaturations can be observed from about 4°S to 10°S. It seems that they occur mainly in boreal summer. They could be caused by transport of water that has been in contact with the atmosphere long enough to come close to equilibrium. The low fCO2 area are not reproduced by the CO2 climatology probably because of the coarse resolution and the lack of data in this region. Despite the low fCO2 area observed in 2006, the ΔfCO2 in 2006 is higher than the 1995 climatology for the region 10°S–2°N, 10°W–10°E suggesting that fCO2 is increasing over time but from the few cruises available, it is difficult to definitely conclude. 相似文献

Large single crystals of copper with an uniform and very narrow mosaic spread between 25 seconds and 1 minute of arc are now available at I.L.L. This result is of great interest in the construction of a Laue lens for astrophysical applications for which such quality copper single crystals may be used. The X-ray diffraction properties of copper single crystals produced at I.L.L. were studied for x-ray energies ranging from 100 keV to 400 keV. Several monocrystalline plates with different thicknesses and mosaic distributions were then prepared from the as-grown crystals in order to measure their diffraction efficiency as a function of energy. As expected, the value of the peak reflectivity depends on the crystal thickness. Reflectivity measurements show the excellent properties of copper crystals for gamma-ray diffraction. A peak reflectivity of 24% was measured at 220 keV from a copper single crystal of 3.75 mm thickness having a mosaic spread of 1.5 minutes of arc. On the contrary, their synergies can facilitate conservation dynamics. Patagonia is commonly seen as an exceptionally pristine area because of its wildlife and practically unpolluted waters. However, during the twentieth century the burning of natural forests was one of the most important human activities in Northern Chilean Patagonia. Some estimations indicate that three million hectares were burned during the first three decades of the century. Hence the objective of this study was to evaluate the impacts of the historical fires in Lake Burgos (45º42′S) and Lake Thompson (45º38′S) in Chilean Patagonia. The impact was measured by evaluating chironomid assemblage since they are sensitive enough to be used as an indicator of aquatic ecosystem health. Fires have a direct and drastic effect on a lake watershed but also indirectly affect a lake ecosystem, changing sedimentation patterns or increasing nutrient inputs. In the studied lakes the periods with higher prevalence of fires were identified by charcoal analysis, while organic matter and magnetic susceptibility allowed the confirmation of pre-fire and post-fire periods. The chironomid composition was evaluated through a PCA and an analysis of similarity (ANOSIM) to test the significance among periods while a Detrended Correspondence Analysis was applied to the chironomid assemblage downcore to assess compositional structure and taxa turnover. In Lake Burgos the ANOSIM test indicated significant differences between the pre-fire and fire periods (p < 0.05), while in Lake Thompson differences were not significant. However, in Lake Thompson the PCA clearly separated the pre-fire from the fire period but not the fire from the post-fire periods. In both lakes chironomid composition changed in relation to the period of higher prevalence of fires, which in turn implies catchment changes, pollution, and other anthropogenic impacts. Particularly a marked change in mesotrophic/eutrophic taxa was detected, reflecting an increase in nutrient input due to deforestation. Our findings point out that the lacustrine ecosystems are still affected by the impact of fires and the subsequent increase in nutrient supply that occurred almost 50 years ago. No sign of reverting to pre-disturbance conditions was observed, which makes these lakes highly sensitive to current human-induced impacts. 相似文献

A country-scale (1:1,000,000) methodology has been developed for hydrogeologic mapping of hard-rock aquifers (granitic and metamorphic rocks) of the type that underlie a large part of the African continent. The method is based on quantifying the “useful thickness” and hydrodynamic properties of such aquifers and uses a recent conceptual model developed for this hydrogeologic context. This model links hydrodynamic parameters (transmissivity, storativity) to lithology and the geometry of the various layers constituting a weathering profile. The country-scale hydrogeological mapping was implemented in Burkina Faso, where a recent 1:1,000,000-scale digital geological map and a database of some 16,000 water wells were used to evaluate the methodology. 相似文献
