In heavy oil recovery by immiscible gas injection, adverse mobility ratio and gravity segregation along with influential mass transfer are the most crucial factors controlling displacement efficiencies. Obtaining relative permeability functions using conventional techniques that are based on a stable displacement front could be highly misleading. In this work, an improved methodology was proposed for estimating relative permeability curves under simultaneous effects of frontal instability and mass transfer using history-matching techniques. The compositional analysis of produced oil from a coreflood experiment was employed, which represents dynamic interactions more realistically. For the history matching, an optimum, high-resolution, two-dimensional core model was used, as opposed to the industry standard use of a one-dimensional model. The results of the simulation were then verified by a semi-empirical approach using the Koval model, which was then used to predict a similar experiment but in a vertical orientation. A good match was obtained between the forward simulation and the experiment. To highlight the effect of mass transfer on the shape of relative permeabilities, the simulation results from two immiscible gas injection corefloods were compared: CO2 injection with mass transfer and N2 injection without mass transfer. The results showed that the two estimated functions were quite similar, indicating that instability levels would determine the displacement pattern rather than local mass transfer. This integrated approach, therefore, highlights the importance of employing the right fluid model and an appropriate 2D-grid model in estimating relative permeabilities in displacement with instability and mass transfer against the current industry practice.  相似文献

Variations in frequency and intensity of extreme events have substantial impact on water resources and environment, which in turn are reflected on agriculture, society, and economy. We assessed spatiotemporal changes in pattern of daily precipitation to identify drought- and flood-prone areas of Iran. To do this, we generated gridded daily precipitation for the period of 1962–2013 over Iran using measured daily precipitation and the Kriging approach. We applied 11 precipitation indices that were stated by the Expert Team on Climate Change Detection and Indices (ETCCDI) to identify significant changes in frequency and intensity of extreme precipitation events. According to significant changes of these 11 precipitation indices, drought- and flood-prone areas of Iran were, then, detected. We observed significant changes in pattern of daily precipitation over more than half of the country. 40% of the country, which were located in the elevated regions of Iran, particularly along Zagros Mountain, was identified as flood-prone areas. As a result, in these regions, there is a need for flood risk management based on changes in stormwater events such as runoff generated from rain on snow and snowmelt events. In addition, we detected drought-prone areas in large portion of the northwest of Iran and in the low elevated regions of the country that have semiarid or arid climate. This suggests that it is necessary to prepare a long-term drought plan to mitigate impacts of severe drought events.  相似文献

The effect of varying parameters such as dye concentration, adsorbent dose, pH and temperature on the adsorption capacity of Pleurotus ostreatus is investigated. The commonly available white rot fungus Pleurotus ostreatus is investigated as a viable biomaterial for the biological treatment of synthetic basic methylene blue effluents. The results obtained from the batch experiments reveal the ability of the fungus to remove methylene blue. The performance is dependent on the dye concentration, pH, and fungal biomass. The equilibrium and kinetics of adsorption are investigated and the Langmuir equation is used to fit the equilibrium isotherm. The adsorption isotherm of methylene blue follows only the Langmuir model with a correlation coefficient of ca. 0.96–0.99. The maximum adsorption capacity is ca. 70 mg of dye per g of dry fungus at pH 11, 70 mg L–1 dye, and 0.1 g L–1 fungus concentration, respectively. This study demonstrates that the fungus could be used as an effective biosorbent for the treatment of dye‐containing wastewater streams.  相似文献

Hydrological processes in mountainous settings depend on snow distribution, whose prediction accuracy is a function of model spatial scale. Although model accuracy is expected to improve with finer spatial resolution, an increase in resolution comes with modelling costs related to increased computational time and greater input data and parameter information. This computational and data collection expense is still a limiting factor for many large watersheds. Thus, this work's main objective is to question which physical processes lead to loss in model accuracy with regard to input spatial resolution under different climatic conditions and elevation ranges. To address this objective, a spatially distributed snow model, iSnobal, was run with inputs distributed at 50‐m—our benchmark for comparison—and 100‐m resolutions and with aggregated (averaged from the fine to the large resolution) inputs from the 50‐m model to 100‐, 250‐, 500‐, and 750‐m resolution for wet, average, and dry years over the Upper Boise River Basin (6,963 km2), which spans four elevation bands: rain dominated, rain–snow transition, and snow dominated below treeline and above treeline. Residuals, defined as differences between values quantified with high resolution (>50 m) models minus the benchmark model (50 m), of simulated snow‐covered area (SCA) and snow water equivalent (SWE) were generally slight in the aggregated scenarios. This was due to transferring the effects of topography on meteorological variables from the 50‐m model to the coarser scales through aggregation. Residuals in SCA and SWE in the distributed 100‐m simulation were greater than those of the aggregated 750 m. Topographic features such as slope and aspect were simplified, and their gradient was reduced due to coarsening the topography from the 50‐ to 100‐m resolution. Therefore, solar radiation was overestimated, and snow drifting was modified and caused substantial SCA and SWE underestimation in the distributed 100‐m model relative to the 50‐m model. Large residuals were observed in the wet year and at the highest elevation band when and where snow mass was large. These results support that model accuracy is substantially reduced with model scales coarser than 50 m.  相似文献

This paper presents a procedure to develop fragility curves of structures equipped with TMD considering multiple failure functions. The failure criteria considered are maximum inter-story drift ratio as a safety criterion, maximum absolute acceleration as a convenience criterion and TMD stroke length. The relationship between intensity measure and responses of the structure was assumed to follow the power-law model, and a regression analysis was used to estimate its properties.A nonlinear eight-story shear building subjected to near-fault earthquakes was used for the numerical studies.Fragility curves using multiple and single failure functions for an uncontrolled structure and a structure equipped with optimal TMDs were developed.Numerical analysis showed that using multiple failure functions led to increasing the fragility when compared with using the single failure function for both the uncontrolled and controlled structures. However,TMDs slightly reduced the seismic fragility and have the capability to improve the reliability of the structure. Also,it was found that the fragility was significantly influenced by the values of the capacity thresholds of both the acceleration of the structure and TMD stroke length, which should be selected by considering the target performance and application of the structure and control device.  相似文献

Protected areas are established to conserve unique features and biodiversity of the nature. Accordingly, wherever has one of the natural, ecological and/or cultural values it should be considered a protected area. Kave-Deh No-hunting Area is located on extremely east of Tehran Province in an area of 94,961 ha. Due to rich and diverse land cover, distinctive wildlife species, and unique monuments the area was selected as a case study to examine the possibility of its promotion to the protected area using Spatial Multi Criteria Evaluation (SMCE) Method. For this purpose, the relevant criteria were identified by Delphi method. After finalization of the most important criteria by Delphi panelists, the map layers were prepared at the scale of 1:100000, in the environment of GIS Software. Afterwards, the map layers were divided into factors and constraints of which factors were standardized by S-shaped membership functions of fuzzy logic. The dimensionless factor maps were weighted using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) Method in the environment of Expert Choice Software. Subsequently, a mathematical equation was extracted to conduct the land suitability analysis. The Weighted Linear Combination (WLC) Method was applied to overlay the map layers and obtain the final ‘nature conservation’ land use map. The final land suitability map showed that 34,687 ha of whole study area (equal to 37 %) have the potentiality for promotion to the protected area.  相似文献

Grass buffer strips impact the hydrology of flow and consequently the fate of sediment. A complex process‐based model is developed to predict flow characteristics as well as sediment deposition and transport upstream, and within grass strips. The model is capable of estimating the proportion and amount of different sediment particle size classes in the outflow. The modified Green–Ampt equation was used to simulate infiltration. Gradually varied flow and kinematic wave approximation were used to model flow characteristics upstream and within grass strips. The GUEST model approach has been modified in order to use its basic approaches in sediment transport module in grass strips. Model predictions agree well with the results of two sets of controlled experiments. The bias, coefficient of model efficiency and the root mean squared error of the modelled efficiency of grass strips in reducing sediment concentration were 0.93–0.99, 0.58–0.99 and 8.9–12.7, respectively. The sensitivity analysis showed that the initial soil moisture and flow rate are the most sensitive parameters in predicting runoff loss. Increasing the slope steepness and flow rate dramatically decreases the efficiency of grass strips in reducing sediment concentration and mass. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Major accidents are low-frequency, high-consequence accidents which are not well supported by conventional statistical methods due to the scarcity of directly relevant data. Modeling and decomposition techniques such as event tree have been proved as robust alternatives as they facilitate incorporation of partially relevant near accident data–accident precursor data—in probability estimation and risk analysis of major accidents. In this study, we developed a methodology based on event tree and hierarchical Bayesian analysis to establish informative distributions for offshore blowouts using data of near accidents, such as kicks, leaks, and failure of blowout preventers collected from a variety of offshore drilling rigs. These informative distributions can be used as predictive tools to estimate relevant failure probabilities in the future. Further, having a set of near accident data of a drilling rig of interest, the informative distributions can be updated to render case-specific posterior distributions which are of great importance in quantitative risk analysis. To cope with uncertainties, we implemented the methodology in a Markov Chain Monte Carlo framework and applied it to risk assessment of offshore blowouts in the Gulf of Mexico.  相似文献
