Several experiments were undertaken at Kolkata (latitude: 22°34′N, longitude: 88°30′E) on the solar eclipse day of August 1, 2008 to observe the effects of the solar eclipse on Fair Weather Field (FWF) and VLF amplitude and phase. The experimental results presented here show significant deviations of the observed parameters from their normal values, as they are determined by the average of the records obtained on 5 days adjacent to the day of the solar eclipse. 相似文献

There have been several reports of exotic nuclear fragments, with highly unusual charge to mass ratio, in cosmic ray experiments.
Although there exist experimental uncertainties which make them, at best, only candidate `exotic' events, it is important
to understand what they could be, if they are eventually confirmed. Among other possible explanations, some authors have interpreted
them to be lumps of strange quark matter (strangelets).A major problem with such an interpretation is that to reach the earth's
surface, they must possess an unusually high penetrability through the terrestrial atmosphere. We show that a recently proposed
mechanism for the propagation of strangelets through the earth's atmosphere, together with a proper account of charge capture
and ionisation loss, would solve this problem. We also argue that this could lead to viable strategies for definitive detection
of strange quark matter in cosmic ray flux using aground based large area array of passive detectors.

Geomorphology and land use pattern of Visakhapatnam urban – industrial area have been studied using IRS IB and SPOT data. The geomorphic units under structural landforms, fluvial landforms and coastal landforms were identified and appropriate field confirmations were made. The geomorphic units such as inselbergs/residual hills, rolling plains, colluvial plains, fractures, piedmont fans, pediments were identified under structural landforms. The units wind gap, paleo channels, gully land, alluvial plain and natural levee were identified under fluvial landforms. The coastal landforms include sea cave, sea stack, red sediments, beach sands and marshy area. Study of the land use pattern reveals the land use under various categories of residential, planned and un planned, agricultural land, waste land and others. The data will have high relevance and usefulness for urban, industrial and ground water resource evaluations in the context of rapid urbanization and industrialization. 相似文献
