Bayesian model averaging assessment on groundwater management under model structure uncertainty 总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
This study introduces Bayesian model averaging (BMA) to deal with model structure uncertainty in groundwater management decisions. A robust optimized policy should take into account model parameter uncertainty as well as uncertainty in imprecise model structure. Due to a limited amount of groundwater head data and hydraulic conductivity data, multiple simulation models are developed based on different head boundary condition values and semivariogram models of hydraulic conductivity. Instead of selecting the best simulation model, a variance-window-based BMA method is introduced to the management model to utilize all simulation models to predict chloride concentration. Given different semivariogram models, the spatially correlated hydraulic conductivity distributions are estimated by the generalized parameterization (GP) method that combines the Voronoi zones and the ordinary kriging (OK) estimates. The model weights of BMA are estimated by the Bayesian information criterion (BIC) and the variance window in the maximum likelihood estimation. The simulation models are then weighted to predict chloride concentrations within the constraints of the management model. The methodology is implemented to manage saltwater intrusion in the “1,500-foot” sand aquifer in the Baton Rouge area, Louisiana. The management model aims to obtain optimal joint operations of the hydraulic barrier system and the saltwater extraction system to mitigate saltwater intrusion. A genetic algorithm (GA) is used to obtain the optimal injection and extraction policies. Using the BMA predictions, higher injection rates and pumping rates are needed to cover more constraint violations, which do not occur if a single best model is used. 相似文献

In this study, the effect of sludge retention time on ammonia oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and nitrite oxidizing bacteria (NOB) in an anaerobic/oxic (AO) process, was explored. The results indicated that the growth rate constants of AOB were 0.97, 0.88, and 0.79 d–1, respectively, meanwhile, those of NOB were 1.22, 1.03, and 0.93 d–1, respectively, when the sludge retention time (SRT) was 15 days, 10 days and 5 days. The relation between the growth rate constant and the SRT could be best described using a simple exponential curve and a second type hyperbolic curve. The lysis rate constants for AOB and NOB were 0.13 and 0.18 d–1, respectively. The yield coefficients values of AOB and NOB were 0.22 and 0.21, respectively. The percentage of AOB to mixed liquid suspended solids (MLSS) was 0.64%, 0.53%, and 0.35%, respectively. Meanwhile, the percentage of NOB was 2.24%, 1.87%, and 1.11%, respectively, at SRT values of 15 days, 10 days and 5 days. When the SRT value decreased, the AOB and NOB biomass levels decreased by 12.75 and 47.01 mg L–1, respectively. Meanwhile the removal efficiency of NH4+‐N decreased from 90 to 26%, while the removal efficiency of total nitrogen (TN) decreased from 14 to 8%. 相似文献

This study used the dilution method to examine growth and grazing rates of heterotrophic bacteria and an autotrophic picoplankton,
Synechococcus spp., from 1 to 11 July 2007 in the East China Sea. The main influence of oceanographic conditions in this aquatic system
was the introduction of fresh, high-nutrient water from Changjiang River and the extremely nutrient-poor, high-salinity waters
of Kuroshio Water. In these experiments, deviation from linearity in the relationship between dilution factor and net growth
rate was significant in a large number of cases. Growth rates for heterotrophic bacteria ranged from 0.024 to 0.24, and for
Synechococcus spp. from 0.03 to 0.21 h−1. Grazing rates ranged from 0.02 to 0.19 and 0.01 to 0.13 h−1, respectively. The spatial variations of Synechococcus spp. production to the primary production ratio (SP/PP) were low (<5%) in high Chl a environments and increased exponentially in low Chl a environments, indicating that Synechococcus spp. contributes to a large extent to the photosynthetic biomass in the open sea, especially in the more oligotrophic Kuroshio
Water. Furthermore, the results of our dilution experiments suggest that nanoflagellates largely depend on heterotrophic bacteria
as an important energy source. On average, heterotrophic bacteria contributes to 76 and 59% of carbon consumed by nanoflagellates

This paper studied the reasons behind the four trends in torsional effects in asymmetric-plan buildings observed in the current literature. It was found that the modal eccentricities and the non-proportionality between the modal translations and the modal rotation are key to understanding these trends in torsional effects in asymmetric-plan buildings. These key points were obtained from the three-degree-of-freedom modal systems, which represent the single vibration mode of a two-way asymmetric-plan building. This paper showed that the modal eccentricities, rather than the overall structural eccentricities, are the critical parameters for deciding the trend of the unequal displacement demand on the floor diaphragm. In addition, the non-proportionality between the modal translations and the modal rotation leads to the trend that the torsional effects generally decrease when plastic deformations increase. 相似文献

Identifying the impact of climatic factors on mosquito population dynamics is of great importance for dengue outbreak control. The purpose of this study is to develop an approach to predict spatial/temporal mosquito reproduction and disease outbreaks. The prediction of a dengue outbreak is only possible if the temporal relationship between mosquito replication and the weather is known. At present, this is unclear and needs to be examined. Moreover, because the development of mosquito density is a dynamic process in the course of time, it should be observed as closely as possible, in this study in a 1-day timeframe. This paper makes a thorough study of the situation in southern Taiwan and analyzes a large amount of data from 1999 to 2004 related to dengue cases and larval density. We first use the method, k-means, to conduct data clustering and derive representative larvae replication patterns. Then, we propose mathematical models to approximate the development of larval density, describe the expansion of mosquito activity areas, and construct a surveillance system to raise alerts based on real-time input of weather data and larval indices. Analysis of historic data reveals some new information on the spatial and temporal relationships between larval density and dengue outbreaks. In Taiwan, if the weather becomes or remains warm and humid for 6?days after a bout of rain, there can be a sharp increase in the larval mosquito population. About 7?days after the Breteau index begins to rise, larval density reaches its climax; and, about 12?days after the climax of larval density, cases of dengue may be reported. The system is tested using subsequent data from 2005 to 2009 and shows satisfactory accuracy. Numerous data support these findings, and this new knowledge is thus validated and can be used to assist public health professionals to take effective dengue control measures. 相似文献

A new method of retrofitting reinforced concrete (RC) frames with buckling‐restrained braces (BRBs) to improve frame strength, stiffness and energy dissipation is proposed. Instead of typical post‐installed anchors, load is transferred between the BRB and RC frame through compression bearing between an installed steel frame connected to the BRB, and high‐strength mortar blocks constructed at the four corners of the RC frame. This avoids complex on‐site anchor installation, and does not limit the allowable brace force by the anchor strength. Cyclic displacements of increasing amplitudes were imposed on two RC frame specimens retrofitted with different BRB strength capacities. In one of the frames, the bearing blocks were reinforced with wire mesh to mitigate cracking. A third RC frame was also tested as a benchmark to evaluate the retrofit strength and stiffness enhancements. Test results indicate that the proposed method efficiently transferred loads between the BRBs and RC frames, increasing the frame lateral strength while achieving good ductility and energy‐dissipating capacity. When the bearing block was reinforced with wire mesh, the maximum frame lateral strength and stiffness were more than 2.2 and 3.5 times the RC frame without the BRB respectively. The BRB imposes additional shear demands through the bearing blocks to both ends of the RC beam and column member discontinuity regions (D‐regions). The softened strut‐and‐tie model satisfactorily estimated the shear capacities of the D‐regions. A simplified calculation and a detailed PISA3D analysis were shown to effectively predict member demands to within 13.8% difference of the measured test results. Maneuvering modeling and simulation of AUV dynamic systems with Euler-Rodriguez quaternion method 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The purpose of this study is to develop maneuvering models and systems of a simulator to improve the motion performance of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) at the preliminary design stages in advance. The AUVs simulation systems based on the standard submarine equations of motion in six-degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) integrated with the Euler-Rodriguez quaternion method for representing singularity-free AUV attitude and time-saving calculation, and with a nonlinear control model for maneuvering and depth control simulations, time-marching in the fourth-order Runge-Kutta scheme. For validation of the simulation codes, results of the ISiMI AUV open-loop tests including turning test and zigzag test as well as an AUV simulator on the basis of Euler-angle method were used to compare with the quaternion-based AUV simulator. The computational results from the proposed simulator agree well with those from both the ISiMI AUV experiments and the Euler-angle based simulations. Additionally, a new maneuvering procedure, namely "put-out" was implemented to test directional stability for a large-scale AUV in the proposed AUV simulator that can be considered for vehicles in space as well as in constrained planes. 相似文献

In conventional modal analysis procedures, usually only a few dominant modes are required to describe the dynamic behavior
of multi-degrees-of-freedom buildings. The number of modes needed in the dynamic analysis depends on the higher-mode contribution
to the structural response, which is called the higher-mode effect. The modal analysis approach, however, may not be directly
applied to the dynamic analysis of viscoelastically damped buildings. This is because the dynamic properties of the viscoelastic
dampers depend on their vibration frequency. Therefore, the structural stiffness and damping contributed from those dampers
would be different for each mode. In this study, the higher-mode effect is referred to as the response difference induced
by the frequency-dependent property of viscoelastic dampers at higher modes. Modal analysis procedures for buildings with
viscoelastic dampers distributed proportionally and non-proportionally to the stiffness of the buildings are developed to
consider the higher-mode effect. Numerical studies on shear-type viscoelastically damped building models are conducted to
examine the accuracy of the proposed procedures and to investigate the significance of the higher-mode effect on their seismic
response. Two damper models are used to estimate the peak damper forces in the proposed procedures. Study results reveal that
the higher-mode effect is significant for long-period viscoelastically damped buildings. The higher-mode effect on base shear
is less significant than on story acceleration response. Maximum difference of the seismic response usually occurs at the
top story. Also, the higher-mode effect may not be reduced by decreasing the damping ratio provided by the viscoelastic dampers.
For practical application, it is realized that the linear viscous damping model without considering the higher-mode effect
may predict larger damper forces and hence, is on the conservative side.
