Major and trace element and Sr–Nd–Hf–Pb isotopic data for the most primitive Tertiary lavas from the Veneto region (South-Eastern Alps, Italy) show the typical features of HIMU hotspot volcanism, variably diluted by a depleted asthenospheric mantle component (87Sr/86Sri=0.70306–0.70378; Ndi=+3.9 to +6.8; Hfi=+6.4 to +8.1, 206Pb/204Pbi=18.786–19.574). P-wave seismic tomography of the mantle below the Veneto region shows the presence of low-velocity anomalies at depth, which is consistent with possible upwellings of plume material. Between the depths of 100–250 km the velocity anomalies are approximately 2–2.5% slower than average, implying a temperature excess of about 220–280 K, in agreement with estimates for other mantle plumes in the world. In this context, the Veneto volcanics may represent the shallow expression of a mantle upflow. The presence of a HIMU-DM component in a collision environment has significant geodynamic implications. Slab detachment and ensuing rise of deep mantle material into the lithospheric gap is proposed to be a viable mechanism of hotspot magmatism in a subduction zone setting.  相似文献

In land surveys, the weathering layer can often distort the seismic signal due to it passing through rapid velocity and density changes, dispersion, scattering and inelastic absorption. In a simple spring‐dashpot model for the earth response, an equivalent medium groups these complex phenomena into two parameters only; these are called ground viscosity and ground stiffness. The most recent controllers for vibrators can estimate both parameters. To validate these measurements, Saudi Aramco conducted an experiment measuring ground viscosity and stiffness from two different vibrator control systems over an area of varying terrain conditions, including unconsolidated sand and limestone outcrop. The two systems measured different values, but detected similar trends that correlated well with weathering conditions and surface geology, e.g. lower viscosity values on the outcrop than on the sand. The ratio of ground viscosity to ground stiffness can approximate the shallow S‐wave velocity, which we converted into P‐wave velocity through calibration with sparse uphole data. Static corrections incorporating this velocity information somewhat improved the focusing of seismic time sections. This new approach does not require additional acquisition efforts, and can model shallow complex formations in arid areas where classical static methods often fail.  相似文献

Surface sediments from 68 small lakes in the Alps and 9 well-dated sediment core samples that cover a gradient of total phosphorus (TP) concentrations of 6 to 520 g TP l-1 were studied for diatom, chrysophyte cyst, cladocera, and chironomid assemblages. Inference models for mean circulation log10 TP were developed for diatoms, chironomids, and benthic cladocera using weighted-averaging partial least squares. After screening for outliers, the final transfer functions have coefficients of determination (r2, as assessed by cross-validation, of 0.79 (diatoms), 0.68 (chironomids), and 0.49 (benthic cladocera). Planktonic cladocera and chrysophytes show very weak relationships to TP and no TP inference models were developed for these biota. Diatoms showed the best relationship with TP, whereas the other biota all have large secondary gradients, suggesting that variables other than TP have a strong influence on their composition and abundance. Comparison with other diatom – TP inference models shows that our model has high predictive power and a low root mean squared error of prediction, as assessed by cross-validation.  相似文献

Résumé De travaux menés dans les zones littorales de l'Afrique du Nord et dans tout le S de l'Espagne, l'auteur tire une nouvelle définition des grands ensembles structuraux péri-méditerranéens. Ces ensembles sont, dans les Cordillères bétiques, du N au S: zones externes (Prébétique, Subbétiques, Pénibétiques), zones internes (Flyschs gaditans, Malaguides, Alpujarrides, Nevadides 1). Dans le Rif marocain, symétriquement, on rencontre du S au N: zones externes (Autochtone de l'Atlas, nappes prérifaines et intrarifaines), zones internes (Flyschs nord-rifains, Tétouanides 2), Ghomarides 3), Sebtides 4); la plupart de ces zones se poursuivent vers l'E, jusqu'en Tunisie et en Sicile.Le fait majeur, à souligner au départ, est la parfaite symétrie de la chaîne alpine de la Méditerranée occidentale: les nappes rifaines ne le cèdent pas en importance aux nappes bétiques. Les diverses unités des deux systèmes se raccordent de manière évidente par la courbure de Gibraltar. L'âge du paroxysme tectonique paraît entièrement compris entre Oligocène supérieur et Miocène supérieur, aucune preuve objective n'existant de nappes plus anciennes.La remise en place des divers ensembles structuraux dépend de l'hypothèse générale définie au départ. Il est d'abord fait allusion à l'interprétation classique, par charriages modérés, ne faisant pas appel à des modifications importantes dans l'emplacement des bassins sédimentaires, actuellement visibles en plan. Les objections à ce premier schéma paraissent déterminantes.Une deuxième interprétation, que l'auteur a déjà partiellement esquissée auparavant, sera envisagée: les unités externes (s'empilant sur elles-mêmes) et leurs socles s'enfonceraient sous les zones internes qui, par réaction, seraient poussées vers l'extérieur de la chaîne: chacune des nappes dépasserait la nappe plus basse, au cours de ce mouvement. Dans le cas de l'Espagne, avant les charriages, les domaines sédimentaires des zones internes se placeraient à l'inverse de la disposition actuelle, soit du N au S: Nevadides, Alpujarrides, Malaguides, Pénibétique et Flyschs gaditans (ultras). Du côté marocain, nous aurions de même du S au N: Sebtides, Ghomarides, Tétouanides, Flyschs nord-rifains (ultras). Cela obligerait, au total, à faire rapprocher l'un de l'autre, en profondeur, les bâtis de la Meseta ibérique et de l'Atlas marocain, d'environ 300 à 500 km, l'actuelle largeur de la mer d'Alboran (150 km) ne permettant pas de reloger les domaines de toutes les nappes. Un axe d'enfouissement serait à rechercher sous l'actuelle Méditerranée.Une troisième interprétation, proposée aujourd'hui par l'auteur, considère que la chaîne péri-méditerranéenne montre une cicatrice structurale fondamentale, qui séparerait domaines internes bétiques et rifains, d'une part, domaines bétiques et rifains plus externes, de l'autre. Cette cicatrice se couderait au niveau de Gibraltar. Les nappes internes seraient comme aspirées vers la cicatrice ainsi que, en sens inverse, les nappes externes. La reconstitution paléogéographique finale est fort satisfaisante et l'ampleur des rétrécissements sensiblement diminuée.La position du domaine des Flyschs kabyles, nord-rifains et gaditans, fait enfin l'objet d'un examen nouveau: sans rejeter l'origine ultra, déjà proposée, l'auteur envisage d'autres solutions, qui auraient l'avantage de mieux s'intégrer dans l'image proposée aujourd'hui.  相似文献

We report XMM-Newton observations of the isolated neutron star RBS1774 and confirm its membership as an XDINS. The X-ray spectrum is best fit with an absorbed blackbody with temperature kT=101 eV and absorption edge at 0.7 keV. No power law component is required. An absorption feature in the RGS data at 0.4 keV is not evident in the EPIC data, but it is not possible to resolve this inconsistency. The star is not seen in the UV OM data to m AB ∼21. There is a sinusoidal variation in the X-ray flux at a period of 9.437 s with an amplitude of 4%. The age as determined from cooling and magnetic field decay arguments is 105–106 yr for a neutron star mass of 1.35–1.5 M.   相似文献

Near liquidus experiments on peridotite and other olivine normative compositions from 1.7 to 6 GPa confirm the applicability of exchange-based empirical models of Ni and Co partitioning between olivine and silicate liquids with compositions close to the liquidus of peridotite. Given that most estimates of lunar bulk composition are peridotitic, the partitioning models thus lend themselves to calculation of olivine compositions produced during the early stages of magma ocean crystallization. Calculation of olivine compositions produced by fractional crystallization of a model lunar magma ocean, initially 700 km deep, reveals a prominent maximum in Ni concentration versus fraction crystallized or Mg’ (molar MgO/(MgO + FeO)), but a pattern of monotonically increasing Co concentration. These patterns qualitatively match the puzzling patterns of Ni and Co concentrations observed in lunar rocks in which forsteritic olivines in magnesian suite cumulates have lower Ni and Co abundances than do less magnesian olivines from low-Ti mare basalts, and olivines from the ferroan anorthosite suite (FAS) have lower Ni, but similar Co to mare basalt olivines.The Ni and Co abundances in olivines from the magnesian suite cumulates can be reconciled in terms of fractional crystallization of a deep magma ocean which initially produces a basal dunite comprised of the hottest and most magnesian olivine overlain by an olivine-orthopyroxene (harzburgite) layer that is in turn overlain by an upper zone of plagioclase-bearing cumulates. The ultramafic portion of the cumulate pile overturns sending the denser harzburgite layer, which later becomes a portion of the green glass source region, to the bottom of the cumulate pile with Ni- and Co-rich olivine. Meanwhile, the less dense, but hottest, most magnesian olivines with much lower Ni and Co abundances are transported upward to the base of the plagioclase-bearing cumulates where subsequent heat transfer leads to melting of mixtures of primary dunite, norite, and gabbronorite with KREEP (a K-REE-P enriched component widely believed to be derived from the very latest stage magma ocean liquid). These hybrid melts have Al2O3, Ni, and Co abundances and Mg’ appropriate for parent magmas of the magnesian suite. Ni and Co abundances in the FAS are consistent with either direct crystallization from the magma ocean or crystallization of melts of primary dunite-norite mixtures without KREEP.  相似文献

The southeastern Arabian Sea (SEAS), located in the Indian Ocean warm pool, is a key-region of the regional climate system. It is suspected to play an important role in the dynamics of the Asian summer monsoon system. The present study reports the salient features derived from a newly harvested observational dataset consisting of repeated fortnightly XBT transects in the SEAS over the period 2002–2008. The fortnightly resolution of such a multi-year record duration is unprecedented in this part of the world ocean and provides a unique opportunity to examine the observed variability of the near-surface thermal structure over a wide spectrum, from intra-seasonal to interannual timescales. We find that most of the variability is trapped in the thermocline, taking the form of upwelling and downwelling motions of the thermal stratification. The seasonal variations are consistent with past studies and confirm the role of the monsoonal wind forcing through linear baroclinic waves (coastally-trapped Kelvin and planetary Rossby waves). Sub-seasonal variability takes the form of anomalous events lasting a few weeks to a few months and occurs at two preferred timescales: in the 30–110 day band, within the frequency domain of the Madden–Julian oscillation and in the 120–180 day band. While this sub-seasonal variability appears fairly barotropic in the offshore region, the sign of the anomaly in the upper thermocline is opposite to that in its lower part on many occasions along the coast. Our dataset also reveals relatively large interannual temperature variations of about 1 °C from 50 to 200 m depth that reflect a considerable year-to-year variability of the magnitude of both upwelling and downwelling events. This study clearly demonstrates the necessity for sustained long-term temperature measurements in the SEAS.  相似文献

Determination of hydraulic head, H, as a function of spatial coordinates and time, in ground water flow is the basis for aquifer management and for prediction of contaminant transport. Several computer codes are available for this purpose. Spatial distribution of the transmissivity, T(x,y), is a required input to these codes. In most aquifers, T varies in an erratic manner, and it can be characterized statistically in terms of a few moments: the expected value, the variance, and the variogram. Knowledge of these moments, combined with a few measurements, permits one to estimate T at any point using geostatistical methods. In a review of transmissivity data from 19 unconsolidated aquifers, Hoeksema and Kitanidis (1985) identified two types of the logtransmissivity Y= ln(T) variations: correlated variations with variance sigma2Yc and correlation scale, I(Y), on the order of kilometers, and uncorrelated variations with variance sigma2Yn. Direct identification of the logtransmissivity variogram, Gamma(Y), from measurements is difficult because T data are generally scarce. However, many head measurements are commonly available. The aim of the paper is to introduce a methodology to identify the transmissivity variogram parameters (sigma2Yc, I(Y), and sigma2Yn) using head data in formations characterized by large logtransmissivity variance. The identification methodology uses a combination of precise numerical simulations (carried out using analytic element method) and a theoretical model. The main objective is to demonstrate the application of the methodology to a regional ground water flow in Eagle Valley basin in west-central Nevada for which abundant transmissivity and head measurements are available.  相似文献
