Soil loss evaluation by means of radioisotopic content measurements represents a promising technique, half-way between field
surveys and theoretical models, which still suffers from its practical limits when applied at basin scale. A main limit is
represented by the costs of field investigations and laboratory investigations on the high number of soil samples required
by a traditional sampling scheme, such as regular grid or transects. A non-conventional soil sampling scheme was tested with
the aim to consider a relative scanty number of soil samples and to verify the feasibility of this technique on large areas.
This scheme was based on the hypothesis that land analysis and classification could point out areas characterised by homogeneous
behaviour with respect to the 137Cs deposition and transmission model. A Geographic Information System (GIS)-aided procedure allowed to classify the selected
basin area in pedo-morphological units, representative of the different pedologic, morphologic and land-use conditions, to
locate few sampling points for each unit. Outcomes pointed out a low correlation between 137Cs contents and soil physical and compositional characteristics. Nevertheless, the isotopic methodology allowed to estimate
a total soil loss value at basin scale almost consistent with both observed data, given by reservoir sedimentation measurements
and estimates from the application of the RUSLE model. Thus, the results can be considered encouraging and they allow to deem
that the isotopic methodology can be refined in order to account for erosion and deposition processes even at river basin

Planktonic foraminifera and pollen data from core GNS84-C106 (Gulf of Salerno, Tyrrhenian Sea) were analysed through the Modern Analogue Technique, Constrained Cluster Analysis and relative variation biplots. A long period of mild climate, centred around 25 ka BP, is evident in both marine and continental reconstructions. The cooling phase from 17 to 14.7 ka BP, correlated to the H1 Heinrich event, is indicated by a sea surface temperature (SST) decrease, which roughly coincides with the cold-arid phase identified by annual and January temperatures. A rapid increase in atmospheric temperatures and precipitation, culminating at 13.8 ka BP, marks the BA cronozone. The corresponding increase in summer and winter SSTs, of 11 and 6.5 °C, respectively, occurred over 600 years. The beginning of the YD, centred around 12.5 ka BP, is marked by a decrease in summer and winter SSTs of, respectively, 4.5 and 3.5 °C in one century. The atmospheric evidence of the YD is primarily reflected in low January temperatures, reaching −6 °C, the lowest values ever experienced in the analysed time interval. The Late Glacial–Holocene transition is clearly recorded in both the continental and marine realms. From 11.5 to 9 ka BP, atmospheric temperatures record a period of substantial stability followed by a drop at 8.9 ka BP, which chronologically fall within the first RCC event (9–8 ka BP) of Mayewski et al. Historical maps are effective sources of geographical information and useful for historical and territorial research. In this study, the examination of landscape dynamics on the basis of historical maps over a period of more than 200 years was conducted. The study area is Sorrento peninsula and part of the near Sarno river basin in South Italy. This study provides a general framework for the assessment of the overall quality and accuracy of historical maps. The application of the methodology used in this specific case study can contribute to a better understanding of the dynamics of the landscape in the long term. The derived knowledge can be applied in the planning of the landscape in order to implement correct conservation strategies. The comparison was made on four maps 1817, 1875, 1960, and 2006. Geodetic accuracy of the sheet maps of 1817 and 1875 offer a right basis for a macro analysis of land cover dynamics, evaluating conversion from one land cover category to another. Main transformation, identified in the period between 1875 and 1960, was the disappearance of vineyards, which covered 25% of the total study area in 1875. Further reduction of Doppler tracking data from Mariner 9 confirms our earlier conclusion that the gravity field of Mars is considerably rougher than the fields of either the Earth or the Moon. The largest positive gravity anomaly uncovered is in the Tharsis region which is also topographically high and geologically unusual. The best determined coefficients of the harmonic expansion of the gravitational potential are: J2 = (1.96 ± 10.01) × 10?3 ; C22 = ?(5.1 ± 0.2) × 10?5; and S22 = (3.4 ± 0.2) × 10?5. The other coefficients have not been well determined on an individual basis, but the ensemble yields a useful model for the gravity field for all longitudes in the vicinity of 23° South latitude which corresponds to the periapse position for the orbiter.The value obtained for the inverse mass of Mars (3 098 720 ± 70 M⊙?1) is in good agreement with prior determinations from Mariner flyby trajectories. The direction found for the rotational pole of Mars, referred to the mean equinox and equator of 1950.0, is characterized by α = 317°.3 ± 0°.2, δ = 52°.7 ± 0°.2. This result is in excellent agreement with Sinclair's recent value, determined from earth-based observations of Mars' satellites, but differs by about 0°.5 from the previously accepted value. Other important physical constants that have either been refined or confirmed by the Mariner 9 data include: (i) the dynamical flattening, f = (5.24 ± 0.02) × 10?3; (ii) the maximum principal moment of inertia, C = (0.375 ± 0.006) MR2; and (iii) the period of precession of Mars' pole, P ? Multiple-scattering computations are carried out to explain the variation of the observed brightness of the A and B rings of Saturn with declination of the Earth and Sun. These computations are performed by a doubling scheme for a homogeneous plane-parallel scattering medium. We test a range of choices for the phase function, albedo for single scattering, and optical depth of both the rings. Isotropic scattering and several other simple phase functions are ruled out, and we find that the phase function must be moderately peaked in both the forward and backward directions. The tilt effect can be explained by multiple scattering in a homogeneous layer, but, for ring B, this requires a single-scattering albedo in excess of 0.8. The brightest part of ring B must have an optical depth greater than 0.9. We find that the tilt effect for ring A can be reproduced by particles having the same properties as those in ring B with the optical depth for the A ring in the range 0.4 to 0.6. 相似文献

The New Caledonia ophiolite hosts one of the rare examples of crust-mantle sections built in a nascent arc environment, providing the unique opportunity to investigate the first stages of arc magmatism in a subduction setting. The sequence consists of refractory harzburgites, overlain by ultramafic (dunites and wehrlites) and mafic lithologies (gabbronorites). The gabbronorites occur in the upper part of the sequence as decimetre to metre-size sills. They are mainly formed (??55 to 70 vol%) of Ca-rich plagioclase (An up to 96 mol%) and high Mg# (88–92), Al2O3-poor (1.5–2.4 wt%) clinopyroxene (8–20 vol%), often rimmed by interstitial or poikilitic orthopyroxene (6–27 vol%). Mg-rich olivine (3–15 vol%, Fo?=?87–89 mol%) occurs as anhedral, resorbed crystals. Whole rock (WR) compositions exhibit high Mg# (86–92) and strikingly low trace element contents. They own LREE-depleted patterns, with nearly flat (0.82?≤?DyN/YbN?≤?1.00) and low HREE (YbN?=?0.2–0.9) and positive Eu anomalies. Clinopyroxene trace element chemistry mirrors the extreme depletion of the WR. By contrast, FME enrichments are observed for WR and clinopyroxene. Geochemical models show that the gabbronorites crystallized from primitive, ultra-depleted melts bearing evidence of fluid contamination processes, but with significantly different geochemical signatures compared to boninitic rocks worldwide, i.e. lower LREE-MREE, and absence of Nb depletion and Zr–Hf enrichments. Nd isotopes (+?8.2?≤?εNdi?≤?+?13.1), together with radiogenic Pb isotopic ratios, support an origin from a DMM source variably modified by slab fluids. We propose that the geochemical signature of the New Caledonia gabbronorites reflect emplacement of primitive, non-aggregated, magma batches in the lower fore-arc crust, during the first phases of arc formation. 相似文献

The anthropogenic pressures on coastal areas represent important factors affecting local, regional, and even global patterns of distribution and abundance of benthic organisms. This report undertakes a comparative analysis of the community structure of rocky shore intertidal phytobenthos in both pristine like environments (PLE) and urbanized environments (UBE) in southern Brazil, characterizing variations on different spatial scales. Multivariate analysis of variance indicated that the PLE is characterized by a larger number of taxa and an increased occurrence of Rhodophyta species in relation to UBE. In contrast, UBE were dominated by opportunistic algae, such as Cladophora and Ulva spp. Significance tests further indicated higher species richness and Shannon-Wiener diversity on the PLE in relation to UBE. Here we provide data showing the magnitude of seaweed biodiversity loss and discuss direct and indirect consequences of unplanned urbanization on these communities. 相似文献

Phytoplankton community in the tropical lake of Lagoa Santa (Brazil): Conditions favoring a persistent bloom of Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
This study presents data on seasonal changes of the phytoplanktonic community of a small tropical lake, Lagoa Santa, in the Brazilian cerrado. Temporal variation in the community structure was small and we observed a permanent dominance of the cyanobacteria Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii. This dominance could be associated to the stability of several environmental conditions. Especially water temperature, always within the optimal growth range for C. raciborskii, and the constant mixed water column may have been important factors driving to the long term dominance of this species in the lake. Remarkable seasonal variation in rainfall, as well as the occasional and non-seasonal variation in nutrient concentrations, were important to explain changes in environmental and biological variables, but were not related to the dominance of C. raciborskii. Pearson's correlation and PCA could just in part explain the stable dominance of this cyanobacterium. Meteorological and chemical factors seem to have no clear control on the variability of the phytoplankton dynamics in Lagoa Santa. The weak relationship between C. raciborskii abundance and environmental variables points to additional intrinsic factors associated to this species that may be important in structuring the phytoplankton assemblage. 相似文献
