Numerical modelling of the processes of CO2 storage in coal and enhanced coalbed methane (ECBM) production requires information on the kinetics of adsorption and desorption processes. In order to address this issue, the sorption kinetics of CO2 and CH4 were studied on a high volatile bituminous Pennsylvanian (Upper Carboniferous) coal (VRr=0.68%) from the Upper Silesian Basin of Poland in the dry and moisture-equilibrated states. The experiments were conducted on six different grain size fractions, ranging from <0.063 to 3 mm at temperatures of 45 and 32 °C, using a volumetric experimental setup. CO2 sorption was consistently faster than CH4 sorption under all experimental conditions. For moist coals, sorption rates of both gases were reduced by a factor of more than 2 with respect to dry coals and the sorption rate was found to be positively correlated with temperature. Generally, adsorption rates decreased with increasing grain size for all experimental conditions.Based on the experimental results, simple bidisperse modelling approaches are proposed for the sorption kinetics of CO2 and CH4 that may be readily implemented into reservoir simulators. These approaches consider the combination of two first-order reactions and provide, in contrast to the unipore model, a perfect fit of the experimental pressure decay curves. The results of this modeling approach show that the experimental data can be interpreted in terms of a fast and a slow sorption process. Half-life sorption times as well as the percentage of sorption capacity attributed to each of the two individual steps have been calculated.Further, it was shown that an upscaling of the experimental and modelling results for CO2 and CH4 can be achieved by performing experiments on different grain size fractions under the same experimental conditions.In addition to the sorption kinetics, sorption isotherms of the samples with different grain size fractions have been related to the variations in ash and maceral composition of the different grain size fractions.  相似文献

Flanking structures are deflections of planar or linear fabric elements in a rock alongside a crosscutting element (CE), e.g. a vein or fault. This study provides new results from analogue experiments, which test and extend recent numerical models of flanking structures. A linear viscous matrix material (PDMS) was deformed in a ring shear rig that allows continuous observation to large values of shear strain. Rotational behaviour, offset and deflection of marker lines around a predefined, lubricated CE were monitored for different initial orientations of the fault with respect to the shear zone boundary, and the results were compared with numerical results and natural examples. At high initial angles to the shear zone boundary (>135°), a structure previously described as an ‘s-type flanking fold’ develops. During progressive deformation, an initially straight marker line passing through the centre of the CE is offset in a sense synthetic with the bulk sense of shear and shows a shortening displacement across the CE. Simultaneously, this central marker line is deflected and forms symmetrical folds, which are convex in the direction of shear along the CE (i.e. normal drag). Both offset and deflection of the marker lines decrease towards the tips of the fault. Natural examples of s-type flanking folds, directly comparable with the model results, are more common than is generally appreciated.  相似文献

Coarse-grained natural jadeitite samples from Myanmar were experimentally deformed in a Griggs-type solid-medium apparatus at strain rates of 2·10−5 and 5·10−6 s−1 and temperatures of 900 and 1000 °C. The microfabrics of the deformed samples are investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) using the electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) technique. The critical shear stress for twinning in the (100) [001] system is derived from the orientation distribution of jadeite crystals with and without mechanical twins. The results indicate a homogeneous stress field within the sample and a critical shear stress of 150±25 MPa, which compares well to that determined by Kollé and Blacic [J. Geophys. Res. 87 (1982) 4019] for mechanical twinning of other clinopyroxenes. With the critical shear stress known, mechanical twinning of jadeite can be used as a paleopiezometer for high stress tectonic environments.  相似文献

Summary The periods of long waves in the circumpolar atmosphere are considerably longer than at lower latitudes because the variation of the Coriolis parameter with latitude decreases from the equator to the poles. The period length increases with decreasing meridional extent of the oscillation and with increasing meridional wave number. Numerical examples of period lengths for different longitudinal and meridional wave numbers and for different meridional extents of the oscillations are shown in Figs. 1–3. The vertical variation of the oscillations is considered only for the simple case of an isothermal atmosphere in order to illustrate the role of the vertical structure of the atmosphere in determining the free oscillations and in regulating the atmospheric response to a forcing function. As a specific example a periodic heating function has been assumed whose intensity decreases upward exponentially. With plausible values for the amplitude of this heating function reasonable values are obtained for the wind and pressure disturbance due to the heating.

Zusammenfassung Die Perioden langer Wellen in der polaren Atmosphäre sind wesentlich länger als in den niederen Breiten, da die Änderung des Coriolisparameters mit der Breite vom Äquator zu den Polen abnimmt. Die Periodenlänge nimmt zu mit abnehmender meridionaler Ausdehnung der Schwingung und mit zunehmender meridionaler Wellenzahl. Numerische Werte von Periodenlängen sind aus Abb. 1–3 zu ersehen. Die Vertikalstruktur der Schwingungen ist für den einfachen Fall einer isothermen Atmosphäre behandelt, um zu zeigen, wie die vertikale Schichtung der Atmosphäre die freien Schwingungen bestimmt und die Ansprechung auf erzwungene Schwingungen reguliert. Als konkretes Beispiel wird eine periodische Erwärmung und Abkühlung angenommen, die mit der Höhe exponentiell abnimmt. Mit realistischen Werten für diese periodische Erwärmung ergeben sich plausible Wind- und Druckwerte.

An increasing number of occurrences of margarite have been reported in the last years. However, previous experimental investigations in the system CaO-Al2O3-SiO2-H2O are limited to the synthesis of margarite and to the upper stability limit according to the reaction (1) 1 margarite?1 anorthite +1 corundum +1 H2O (Chatterjee, 1971; Velde, 1971). Since margarite often occurs together with quartz, the upper stability limit of margarite in the presence of quartz is of special interest. Therefore, the reactions (5) 1 margarite +1 quartz ?1anorthite +1 kyanite/andalusite +1 H2O and (6) 4 margarite+3 quartz ? 2 zoisite+5 kyanite+3 H2O were investigated experimentally using mixtures of natural margarite (from Chester, Mass., USA), quartz, kyanite, andalusite, zoisite, and synthetic anorthite. The indicated equilibrium temperatures at water pressures equal to total pressure are: 515± 25°C at 4 kb, 545 ±15°C at 5 kb, 590±10°C at 7 kb, and 650±10°C at 9 kb for reaction (5), and 651±11°C at 10 kb, 648 ± 8°C at 12.5kb, and 643±13°C at 15kb for reaction (6), respectively. Besides this, additional brackets for equilibrium temperatures were determined for the above cited reaction (1): 520±10°C at 3 kb, 580±10°C at 5 kb, and 640± 20°C at 7 kb. On the basis of these experimentally determined reactions (1), (5), and (6) and of the reactions (3) 2 zoisite +1 kyanite? 4 anorthite +1 corundum +1 H2O (7) 2 zoisite +1 kyanite +1 quartz ? 4 anorthite +1 H2O and (10) 1 pyrophyllite ? 1 andalusite/kyanite+3 quartz+1 H2O for which experimental or, in the case of reaction (3), calculated data were already available, a pressure-temperature diagram with 3 invariant points and 11 univariant reactions was developed using the method of Schreinemakers. This diagram, summarizing both experimental and phase relation studies, allows conclusions about the conditions under which margarite has been formed in nature. Margarite is limited to low grade metamorphism at water pressures up to approximately 3.5 kb; in the presence of quartz, margarite is even limited to low grade metamorphism at water pressures up to 5.5 kb. Only at water pressures higher than the values stated before margarite, and margarite+quartz, respectively, can occur in medium grade metamorphism (as defined by Winkler, 1970 and 1973). For the combined occurrence of margarite+quartz and staurolite as reported by Harder (1956) and Frey (personal communication, 1973) it may be estimated that water pressure has been greater than approximately 5.5 kb, wheras temperature has been in the range from 550 to 650°C. Furthermore, the present study shows that the assemblage zoisite+kyanite (+ H2O) is an indicator of both pressure [P H 2 O> approximately 9kb]and temperature [T> approximately 640 to 650° Cat water Pressures up to 15 kb].  相似文献

The geochemical and mineralogical study of the Quiulacocha tailings impoundment has shown that the hydrological connection of the three studied mine-waste systems at Cerro de Pasco (Pyrite-rich waste-rock dump Excelsior, old tailings impoundment Quiulacocha, and the active tailings impoundment Ocroyoc) is a critical concern for effective acid mine drainage (AMD) control and mine-waste management. The Quiulacocha tailings covered 114 ha, comprising 79 Mt of tailings, which contained  50 wt.% pyrite, and are located at 4340 m altitude in a tropical puna climate with about 1025 mm/a rainfall and 988 mm/a of evaporation. The tailings were partially overlain by the Excelsior waste-rock dump, which contains about 26,400,000 m3 of waste rocks that cover 94 ha and contained  60 wt.% of pyrite, which origin from a massive pyrite-quartz replacement body. Therefore, these two mine-waste deposits had a direct hydrological connection, resulting in the export of AMD produced at Excelsior towards Quiulacocha. In the Quiulacocha impoundment there are two different types of tailings recognized, that interact with the AMD from Excelsior: 1) Zn–Pb-rich tailings and 2) Cu–As-rich tailings. During the sampling, the Zn–Pb-rich part of Quiulacocha was not producing important excesses of AMD from the oxidation zone, since the pH increased to near neutral values at 1 m depth. The underlying tailings were still able to neutralize the acidity produced in the oxidation zone through sulfide oxidation by the carbonates (mainly dolomite and siderite) contained in the Zn–Pb mineral assemblage. The main source of AMD in this mine-waste system is the Excelsior waste-rock dump. Its acid seepage infiltrates into Quiulacocha forming a Fe–Zn–Pb plume with a pH 5.5–6.1 and containing up to 7440 mg/L Fe, 627 mg/L Zn, and 1.22 mg/L Pb. The plume was detected at 10–13 m depth in the stratigraphy of Quiulacocha tailings. Additionally, the AMD seepage outcropping at the base of the Excelsior waste-rock dump was channeled on the tailings surface into the Quiulacocha pond (pH 2.3), which covered the Cu–As-rich tailings. Infiltration of this Fe(III)-rich AMD increased tailings oxidation in the southwestern part of the impoundment, and subsequently liberated arsenic by enargite oxidation. Additionally, the AMD collected in the Quiulacocha pond was pumped into the active Ocroyoc tailings impoundment, where sulfide oxidation was strongly enhanced by the input of dissolved Fe(III). Therefore, the AMD management and a hydrological separation of the different mine-waste systems could be a first step to prevent further extension of the AMD problem in order to prevent increased sulfide oxidation by Fe(III)-rich solutions.  相似文献

Solute transport in rivers and streams with hyporheic zone exchange and/or in-stream storage is typically affected by the prevailing flow rate. The research reported here focuses on stream tracer experiments repeated many times along the same Austrian (Mödlingbach) and Italian (Torrente Lura) channel reaches to characterize parameter dependency on flow rate. Both groups of data sets showed an increase of storage zone area and main stream area with discharge. In either case, a strong negative correlation was obtained between storage zone residence time and flow rate. From the Mödlingbach data, no clear relationship with Q emerged for the dispersion coefficient and the dead zone ratio, whereas Torrente Lura showed a clear positive correlation of the dispersion coefficient with the flow rate and a slightly negative Q-dependency for the dead zone ratio. Mödlingbach and Torrente Lura results are presented against the background of other repeat experiments reported in literature.  相似文献
