This paper involves a collection and communication of important knowledge about and experiences with outdoor recreation monitoring in Nordic coastal and marine areas. This is a topic that so far has received little attention, especially among researchers and practitioners working with outdoor recreation monitoring in Nordic coastal and marine areas, who are in need of knowledge on the topic in order to advance monitoring activities and procedures. To remedy this situation, the purpose of this paper is to provide a knowledge base by listing and describing central literature contributions with important insight into outdoor recreation monitoring in Nordic coastal and marine areas. More specifically, this includes information about: (a) where important knowledge about outdoor recreation monitoring in Nordic coastal and marine areas can be found, (b) who the main contributors are and (c) what monitoring knowledge that has been reported so far. The paper also examines what tasks lie ahead for researchers and area managers in order to improve knowledge about outdoor recreation monitoring in Nordic coastal and marine areas. The paper is a central contribution and addition to manuals on outdoor recreation monitoring that are currently available in the Nordic countries. 相似文献

Altimetry and ocean color observations are used in combination with a coupled physical-primary production ocean model to investigate anticyclonic eddies at two locations in the Norwegian Sea. Of particular interest are the formation of the anticyclonic eddies, and their influence on primary production. The formation of these anticyclonic eddies are due to baroclinic instabilities set up by shifts in the wind in north/south direction, leading to simultaneously formation of eddies throughout the area. After a density stratification develops in the upper 100 m of the water column, the anticyclones become a subsurface lens of well mixed water with the characteristics of intra-thermocline eddies. The deep mixed layer inside anticyclonic eddies delay phytoplankton bloom by approximately two weeks compared to the surrounding areas. As the mixed layer within the anticyclones become smaller than the critical depth, the combination of this and sufficiently high nutrient levels support a phytoplankton bloom. From the satellite observations, there is an evidence of phytoplankton being advected toward the center of the eddies, but also of isolated phytoplankton blooms within the intra-thermocline eddies. The combined use of a numerical model and satellite observations provides three-dimensional information on the structure and properties of both eddies and primary production. We report results of ultra wide-band radar sea spike experiments using steep and weakly breaking non-linear water surface features in a wave tank. To generate these features we used a 1 s paddle wave and wind waves for a sequence of wind speeds. A scanning laser was used to measure synchronously the surface slope profile across 12 cm along the wave propagation direction once per radar pulse. A time domain reflectometer (TDR) radar transmitted short horizontally polarized pulses at X-band, several hundred picoseconds long, to give a range resolution of 10 cm. A radar range of 36 cm was digitally sampled so that surface feature echoes could be tracked through the area continuously with 5 ms temporal resolution with each instrument. We report results considering the wave slope component in the propagation direction and the corresponding curvature component. For the conditions studied, two types of features which produce sea spike radar echoes were generated–a non-linear feature near the crest front of the wind wave, caused by extreme steepening as a result of the passage of the paddle wave, and a steepened blocked wind wave in the trough of the paddle wave, caused by the local orbital current of the 1 s wave being nearly equal to and opposite the phase velocity of the wind wave. 相似文献

Olivine phenocrysts of Hawaiian tholeiites display a variety of textures and a variation in composition which is due to supercooled crystallization. The highest forsterite content measured is 91%, and the highest magnesia content estimated for a tholeiitic liquid is 17%, using the olivine geothermometer. The liquid of this composition may be either a primary magma or a primitive magma. It is not yet possible to specify any particular composition range for the primary Hawaiian tholeiites. 相似文献

The boundary zone between two Penninic nappes, the eclogite-facies to ultrahigh-pressure Zermatt-Saas zone in the footwall
and the blueschist-facies Combin zone in the hanging wall, has been interpreted previously as a major normal fault reflecting
synorogenic crustal extension. Quartz textures of mylonites from this fault were measured using neutron diffraction. Together
with structural field observations, the data allow a refined reconstruction of the kinematic evolution of the Pennine nappes.
The main results are: (1) the contact is not a normal fault but a major thrust towards northwest which was only later overprinted
by southeast-directed normal faulting; (2) exhumation of the footwall rocks did not occur during crustal extension but during
crustal shortening; (3) the Sesia-Dent Blanche nappe system originated from a continental fragment (Cervinia) in the Alpine
Tethys ocean, and the Combin zone ophiolites from the ocean basin southeast of Cervinia; (4) out-of-sequence thrusting played
a major role in the tectonic evolution of the Penninic nappes.

During the last two decades, important advances have been made in the investigation of gravity waves. However, more efforts are needed to study certain aspects of gravity waves. In the real atmosphere, gravity waves occur with different properties at different altitudes and, most often, simultaneously. In this case, when there is more than one dominant wave, the determination of gravity wave characteristics, such as the vertical wavelength and the phase velocity, is difficult. The interpretation of temperature perturbation plots versus the altitude and time as well as the application of the Fourier spectral analysis can produce errors.Exact knowledge of the wave characteristics is important both for determination of other characteristics, for example, the horizontal wave components, and for study of wave climatology. The wavelet analysis of vertical temperature profiles allows one to examine the wave's location in space. Up to now, gravity waves have been studied mainly by continuous wavelet transformation to determine dominant waves. We apply wavelet analysis to a time series of temperature profiles, observed by the ALOMAR ozone lidar at Andoya, Norway, and by the U. Bonn lidar system at ESRANGE, Sweden, both for determination of the dominant waves and for specifying the vertical wavelengths and the vertical component of the phase velocities. For this purpose, the wavelet amplitude spectra and the wavelet phase spectra are filtered and Hovmöller diagrams for dominant wavelengths are constructed. The advantage of this type of diagrams is that they give clear evidence for the localization of the dominant waves in space and time and for the development of their phase fronts. 相似文献

Several schemes for scalar advection on unstructured triangular grids are assessed for possible use in ocean modelling applications.
Finite element, finite volume and finite volume–element approaches are evaluated. A series of tests, including a numerical
order of convergence analysis, idealized rotating cone and cylinder experiments, and transport of a tracer through the Stommel
Gyre representation of ocean basin-scale circulation, are carried out. Volume element Eulerian–Lagrangian and third-order
Runge-Kutta discontinuous Galerkin schemes are recommended for use in tracer studies. Taylor–Galerkin and second-order Runge–Kutta
discontinuous Galerkin are found to be robust and accurate second-order schemes. When positivity is required, a fluctuation
redistribution scheme was found to be an easily implemented, accurate, and computationally efficient approach.

This note presents a novel method for determining the changing composition of a multi-component NAPL body dissolving into moving groundwater, and the consequent changes in the aqueous phase solute concentrations in the surrounding pore water. A canonical system of coupled non-linear governing equations is derived which is suitable for representation of both pooled and residual configurations, and this is solved. Whereas previous authors have handled such problems numerically, it is shown that these governing equations succumb to analytical solution. By a suitable substitution, the equations become decoupled, and the problem collapses to a single first-order equation. The final result is expressed implicitly, with time as a function of the number of moles of the least soluble component, m1. The number of moles of each other component is expressed explicitly in terms of m1. It is shown that the time-m1 relationship has a well behaved inverse. An example is given in which the analytic solution is verified against traditional finite difference analysis, and its computational efficiency is shown. 相似文献
