Abstract— We measured the noble gas isotopic abundances in lunar meteorite QUE 94269 and in bulk-, glass-, and crystal-phases of lunar meteorite QUE 94281. Our results confirm that QUE 94269 originated from the same meteorite fall as QUE 93069: both specimens yield the same signature of solar-particle irradiation and also the cosmogenic noble gases are in agreement within their uncertainities. Queen Alexandra Range 93069/94269 was exposed to cosmic rays in the lunar regolith for ~1000 Ma, and it trapped 3.5 × 10?4 cm3STP/g solar 36Ar, the other solar noble gases being present in proportions typical for the solar-particle irradiation. The bulk material of QUE 94281 contains about three times less cosmogenic and trapped noble gases than QUE 93069/94269 and the lunar regolith residence time corresponds to 400 ± 60 Ma. We show that in lunar meteorites the trapped solar 20Ne/22Ne ratio is correlated with the trapped ratio 40Ar/36Ar, that is, trapped 20Ne/22Ne may also serve as an antiquity indicator. The upper limits of the breccia compaction ages, as derived from the trapped ratio 40Ar/36Ar for QUE 93069/94269 and QUE 94281 are ~400 Ma and 800 Ma, respectively. We found very different regolith histories for the glass phase and the crystals separated from QUE 94281. The glass phase contains much less cosmogenic and solar noble gases than the crystals, in contrast to the glasses of lunar meteorite EET 87521, that were enriched in noble gases relative to the crystalline material. The QUE 94281 phases yield a 40K-40Ar gas retention age of 3770 Ma, which is in the range of that for lunar mare rocks.  相似文献

Talc-phengite, an assemblage hitherto believed to be rare, isfound in regional distribution in the Gran Paradiso area, whereit occurs in the characteristic mineral association chloritoid-talc-phengite(Si3·43·5). Talc contains up to 15 moleper cent minnesotaite, and chloritoid up to 45 mole per centof the magnesium end member. The talc-phengite stability resultsbasically from the disappearance of chlorite + quartz in rockswith low and moderate MgO/FeO ratios through the divariant reactionsfirst recognized here: Fe-Mg-Chlorite+quartz talc + garnet + H2O and Fe-Mg-chlorite + quartz talc + Chloritoid + H2O These reactions imply the disappearance of the join biotite-chloritein the presence of quartz and thus open a talc-phengite stabilityfield (±garnet or chloritoid or Mg-chlorite) which extends,with increasing P and T, toward Mg-richer compositions. Whetheror not it reaches the magnesian subsystem in the Gran Paradisoarea cannot be ascertained. However, the sporadic occurrenceof the high-pressure assemblage talc-kyanite-chloritoid 50 to70 km further northeast in the vicinity of the Monte Rosa massifwithin the same lithological unit (Zermatt-Saas Fee zone s.l.)indicates the instability of any chlorite in quartz-bearingrocks, and implies that talc-phengite must also be stable forpurely magnesian compositions in that area. This progressivestabilization of talc-phengite with increasing metamorphic gradesupports Abraham & Schreyer's (1976) hypothesis of a high-pressurefield for this assemblage, and rules out Chernosky's construction(1978) implying a low-pressure field. The following paragenetic sequence is proposed for pelitic compositionswith intermediate Mg/Fe ratios and excess quartz subjected tohigh-pressure metamorphism with maximum temperatures near 400–500°C: chlorite-illite chlorite-phengite chloritoid-talc-phengite.The absence of biotite is a compositional effect due to thehigh degree of phengite substitution in the white mica. *Present address: Institut fr Mineralogic, Ruhr-Universitt, Postfach 10 21 48, D-4630 Bochum 1, Federal Republic of Germany.  相似文献

Three well-developed raised marine shorelines along Nordenskioldkysten have been studied and correlated with the shoreline displacement since the last deglaciation. The marine limit of 64 m in the area is of Late Weichselian age and has been dated to 10, 900- 11, 000 years B.P. An intermediate level at 50 m is estimated to be 10, 600-10, 000 years old and demonstrates a sea level stagnation probably caused by a glacier readvance in eastern Svalbard during the Younger Dryas. A Holocene transgression culminating shortly after 6, 000 years B.P. has been stratigraphically demonstrated, and it probably correlates with the Tapes transgression of Scandinavia. No pre-Late Weichselian marine levels are found, and the large rebound can be attributed only to a Late Weichselian glaciation.  相似文献

Marine, fluvial and glacigene sediments exposed in coastal cliffs and stream-cut sections in East Greenland between latitudes 69° and 78° N display a record of Quaternary climatic and environmental change going back to pre-Saalian times (> 240 ka), but with main emphasis on the last interglacial/glacial cycle. The stratigraphical scheme is based on studies on the Jameson Land peninsula, and contains five glacial stages and stades with the Greenland ice sheet or its outlets reaching the outer coasts. Individual sites are correlated and dated by a combination of biostratigraphy, luminescence dating, amino acid analyses, as well as 14C- and uranium series dating. The pre-Weichselian Lollandselv and Scoresby Sund glaciations were the most extensive. During the Weichselian the Inland Ice margin in this part of East Greenland was apparently very stable. The Aucellaelv, Jyllandselv and Flakkerhuk stades mark the advance and subsequent retreat of outlet glaciers from the Inland Ice which advanced through the wide Scoresby Sund basin and reached the inner shelf. In-between the glacier advances, three interglacial or interstadial periods have been recognized. During the Langelandselv interglacia-tion (≅ Eemian) the advection of warm Atlantic water was higher than during the Holocene, and the terrestrial flora and insect faunas show that summer temperatures were 3–4°C higher than during the Holocene optimum. There is no unambiguous evidence for cooling in the sediments from this interval. Later, in isotope stage 5, there were apparently two ice-free periods. During the Hugin Sø interstade, stable Polar water dominated Scoresby Sund, and the terrestrial flora suggests summer temperatures 2° -3° lower than the present. The marine and fluvial sediments from the second ice-free period, the Mønselv interstade, are devoid of organic remains.  相似文献

Deposits of Late Pleistocene age were investigated near the Fynselv river on the southwestern coast of Jameson Land. East Greenland. The deposits are of fluvial, deltaic shallow marine and glacigenic origin. Four stratigraphic units are recorded. Unit I consists of deltaic and shallow marine deposits reflecting a relative sea level of at least 20 m above the present. Elevated fluvial deposits represent the subaerial part of the depositional system. The system existed during full interglacial and subarctic conditions as indicated by remains or flora and Fauna and unit I is correlated with the Langelandselv interglaciation (isotopic substage 5e). Unit II consists of a till deposited by a glacier in the Scoresby Sund Fjord during the beginning of the Early Weichselian referred to as the Aucellaelv stade. The glacier probably melted in a marine environment. Unit III represents a marine delta system during the Hugin Sø interstade. and reveals a relative sea level of at least 62 m above the present. Unit IV consists of till and kame deposits assumed to be deposited by a glacier in the Scoresby Sund Fjord during the Flakkerhuk stade. probably a Late Weichselian glacier advance.  相似文献

Based on field investigations in northern Russia and interpretation of offshore seismic data, we have made a preliminary reconstruction of the maximum ice-sheet extent in the Barents and Kara Sea region during the Early/Middle Weichselian and the Late Weichselian. Our investigations indicate that the Barents and Kara ice sheets attained their maximum Weichselian positions in northern Russia prior to 50 000 yr BP, whereas the northeastern flank of the Scandinavian Ice Sheet advanced to a maximum position shortly after 17 000 calendar years ago. During the Late Weichselian (25 000-10 000 yr BP), much of the Russian Arctic remained ice-free. According to our reconstruction, the extent of the ice sheets in the Barents and Kara Sea region during the Late Weichselian glacial maximum was less than half that of the maximum model which, up to now, has been widely used as a boundary condition for testing and refining General Circulation Models (GCMs). Preliminary numerical-modelling experiments predict Late Weichselian ice sheets which are larger than the ice extent implied for the Kara Sea region from dated geological evidence, suggesting very low precipitation.  相似文献

We examined the stability of fast ice areas in western and northern Spitsbergen, the area north of Nordaustlandet, the bays and sounds of Hinlopen Stretet and the large area in the northern part of Storfjorden. NOAA satellite imagery from 1974 and 1988 and NOAA (AVHRR) imagery from 1980-87 were used to determine the dates of freeze-up and break-up. The number of days of fast ice present before the nominal birth date of ringed seal pups were computed for all major bays and fjords. Ice thickness was then computed from these data. Known prime breeding habitat in Svalbard is found in areas near glacier fronts in protected fjords and bays, where densities of birth lairs are 5.46 km−2, corresponding to a ringed seal female density of 2.6 km−2. Most of the ringed seal breeding habitat in Svalbard, however, consists of flat fjord ice where snow accumulation is rarely deep enough to permit birth lair construction. In these areas pups are often born in the open. Based on breathing hole densities, the density of adult females in the flat ice areas in the breeding period was estimated to 0.98 km−2. A preliminary estimate is that approximately 19,500 pups could be born annually in the fast ice of Svalbard. Annual recruitment could be quite variable given the unpredictable nature of the fast ice areas and the high predation mortality on newborn pups. Discrepancies between our calculated ringed seal production and numbers of seals required to feed the large polar bear population in the area signal cause for management concern.  相似文献
