A two-dimensional atmospheric boundary-layer model is applied to the Nanticoke region on the northern shore of Lake Erie (80 ° 03W and 42 ° 50N) to simulate numerically the observed wind and temperature profiles. A time-dependent, two-dimensional primitive-equation atmospheric boundary-layer model has been applied to the South shore of Lake Ontario, using data obtained by Estoque et al. (1976).The model has correctly predicted the times of onset, maximum intensity and disappearance of the lake breeze. However, it underestimated the maximum inland penetration of the lake breeze, probably due to the fact that horizontal variations of surface potential temperature over the land had not been taken into account. 相似文献

The effluent contamination of groundwater at two industrial sites at Visakhapatnam, India, was studied using factor analysis.
Thirty groundwater samples near a zinc smelter plant and 19 from the polymers plant were analyzed for specific conductance,
chloride, bicarbonate, sulfate, calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium. The data were subjected to R-mode factor analysis
and the factor scores transferred to areal maps. While magnesium and sulfate are the dominant contaminants at the zinc site,
sodium, chloride, and bicarbonate from the effluent are affecting groundwater in the polymers area. Contour maps for each
factor suggest the areal extension of the contaminants.

The Soft X-ray focusing Telescope (SXT), India’s first X-ray telescope based on the principle of grazing incidence, was launched aboard the AstroSat and made operational on October 26, 2015. X-rays in the energy band of 0.3–8.0 keV are focussed on to a cooled charge coupled device thus providing medium resolution X-ray spectroscopy of cosmic X-ray sources of various types. It is the most sensitive X-ray instrument aboard the AstroSat. In its first year of operation, SXT has been used to observe objects ranging from active stars, compact binaries, supernova remnants, active galactic nuclei and clusters of galaxies in order to study its performance and quantify its characteriztics. Here, we present an overview of its design, mechanical hardware, electronics, data modes, observational constraints, pipeline processing and its in-orbit performance based on preliminary results from its characterization during the performance verification phase. 相似文献

Charged Particle Monitor (CPM) on-board the Astrosat satellite is an instrument designed to detect the flux of charged particles at the satellite location. A Cesium Iodide Thallium (CsI(Tl)) crystal is used with a Kapton window to detect protons with energies greater than 1 MeV. The ground calibration of CPM was done using gamma-rays from radioactive sources and protons from particle accelerators. Based on the ground calibration results, energy deposition above 1 MeV are accepted and particle counts are recorded. It is found that CPM counts are steady and the signal for the onset and exit of South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) region are generated in a very reliable and stable manner. 相似文献

Radio beacon from ATS-6 at 140 MHz was used to measure the changes in the polarization angle (Faraday rotation) at Bombay,
Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Udaipur and Patiala during October 1975 to July 1976. In this paper, results of diurnal, seasonal and latitudinal
variations in total electron content (TEC) derived from these measurements are reported. The amplitude of diurnal peak is
found to be higher at Rajkot, Ahmedabad and Udaipur as compared to that at Patiala or Bombay, indicating that the peak of
Appleton anomaly in the latitudinal variation of TEC was close to the latitude of Ahmedabad. The diurnal maximum of TEC occurs
around the same time during summer and winter months. The peak electron content shows a semiannual variation at all the stations
with large values in equinoxes as compared to winter and summer. The TEC at Bombay shows a seasonal anamoly with high values
in winter as compared to summer. The paper describes the development of latitudinal anomaly with the time of the day for different
seasons. This anomaly is maximum during 1000 to 1800 LT and is located between 12° and 14° N (dip latitude) in summer and
equinoxes and at about 10°N in winter. 相似文献

The industrial effluents sent through open channels or closed pipes with leaks contaminate the surface layer and infiltrate to add salinity to groundwater. Extents of contaminations are delineated through isoresistivity maps. Vertical electrical sounding gives the contaminated resistivities of the second layer. The technique is used for two industrial sites: polymer and zinc smelter plants of Visakhapatnam. The results of the studies are compared. 相似文献
