Emission inventories of NOx, CO, and individual volatile organic compounds (VOC), highly resolved in space and time, belong to the most important input parameters for chemistry and transport models (CTM) used for ozone prediction. Because of the decisive influence of the input quality on the outcome of CTM simulations, the quality of emission inventories has to be assessed. This paper presents an experimental evaluation of the highly resolved emission inventories for the city of Augsburg. The emissions of the city, determined in March and October 1998 using mass balance and tracer techniques, and derived from the measured receptor concentration ratios, were compared with emissions modeled from an emission inventory. The modeled CO emissions were in agreement with the measured ones within the combined experimental and model uncertainties. More detailed CO emission model simulations suggest that the tendency of calculated CO emissions being smaller than the measured ones may be due to higher traffic activity in Augsburg. Modeled NOx emissions were in agreement with the measured ones within the combined experimental and model uncertainties. Large deviations between modeled and measured values have been found for some individual NMHC compounds. The measured NMHC emission fingerprints were dominated by mobile sources. Substantial model predicted NMHC emissions from the solvent use could not be detected by measurements suggesting that they may not be correctly represented by the emission model.  相似文献

Bathymetry, gravity and deep-tow sonar image data are used to define the segmentation of a 400 km long portion of the ultraslow-spreading Knipovich Ridge in the Norwegian-Greenland Sea, Northeast Atlantic Ocean. Discrete volcanic centers marked by large volcanic constructions and accompanying short wavelength mantle Bouguer anomaly (MBA) lows generally resemble those of the Gakkel Ridge and the easternmost Southwest Indian Ridge. These magmatically robust segment centers are regularly spaced about 85-100 km apart along the ridge, and are characterized by accumulated hummocky terrain, high relief, off-axis seamount chains and significant MBA lows. We suggest that these eruptive centers correspond to areas of enhanced magma flux, and that their spacing reflects the geometry of underlying mantle upwelling cells. The large-scale thermal structure of the mantle primarily controls discrete and focused magmatism, and the relatively wide spacing of these segments may reflect cool mantle beneath the ridge. Segment centers along the southern Knipovich Ridge are characterized by lower relief and smaller MBA anomalies than along the northern section of the ridge. This suggests that ridge obliquity is a secondary control on ridge construction on the Knipovich Ridge, as the obliquity changes from 35° to 49° from north to south, respectively, while spreading rate and axial depth remain approximately constant. The increased obliquity may contribute to decreased effective spreading rates, lower upwelling magma velocity and melt formation, and limited horizontal dike propagation near the surface. We also identify small, magmatically weaker segments with low relief, little or no MBA anomaly, and no off-axis expression. We suggest that these segments are either fed by lateral melt migration from adjacent magmatically stronger segments or represent smaller, discrete mantle upwelling centers with short-lived melt supply.  相似文献

A mass-spectrometric uranium-series dated stalagmite from the Central Alps of Austria provides unprecedented new insights into high-altitude climate change during the peak of isotope stage 3. The stalagmite formed continuously between 57 and 46 kyr before present. A series of ‘Hendy tests’ demonstrates that the outer parts of the sample show a progressive increase of both stable C and O isotope values. No such covariant increase was detected within the axial zone. This in conjunction with other observations suggests that the continuous stable oxygen isotope profile obtained from the axial zone of the stalagmite largely reflects the unaltered isotopic composition of the cave drip water. The δ18O record shows events of high δ18O values that correlate remarkably with Interstadials 15 (a and b), 14 and 12 identified in the Greenland ice cores. Interstadial 15b started rapidly at 55.6 kyr and lasted ∼300 yr only, Interstadial 15a peaked 54.9 kyr ago and was even of shorter duration (∼100 yr), and Interstadial 14 commenced 54.2 kyr ago and lasted ∼3000 yr. This stalagmite thus represents one of the first terrestrial archives outside the high latitudes which record precisely dated Dansgaard-Oeschger (D/O) events during isotope stage 3. Provided that rapid D/O warmings occurred synchronously in Greenland and the European Alps, the new data provide an independent tool to improve the GRIP and GISP2 chronologies.  相似文献

Xenoliths of metamorphic rocks with ferroglaucophane + albite + stilpnomelane + muscovite ± lawsonite ± pumpellyite are described fromn the rhylolitic tephra deposits of the Late Quaternary Phyriplaka Volcano, Milos, Aegean Island, Greece. The chemical bulk analyses reveal metabasaltic parent rocks with strongly modified chemical compositions. Unusual for common fresh basalt types is extreme Na2O combined with low K2O and rather low CaO. These are chemical characteristics of spilitic basalts. High iron in the bulk rock and very high Fe/Mg is probably the cause of extreme ferroglaucophane compositions. The metamorphic assemblages point to a high-p/low-T metamorphism in the pressure range 4–8 kb and with temperatures of about 350°C. Phyriplaka Volcano is likely to have only a shallow explosive center and ferroglaucophane rocks were ejected from the immediate basement of the island, which was uplifted after the metamorphic event.  相似文献

A detailed set of reactions treating the gas and aqueous phase chemistry of the most important iodine species in the marine boundary layer (MBL) has been added to a box model which describes Br and Cl chemistry in the MBL. While Br and Cl originate from seasalt, the I compounds are largely derived photochemically from several biogenic alkyl iodides, in particular CH2I2, CH2ClI, C2H5I, C3H7I, or CH3I which are released from the sea. Their photodissociation produces some inorganic iodine gases which can rapidly react in the gas and aqueous phase with other halogen compounds. Scavenging of the iodine species HI, HOI, INO2, and IONO2 by aerosol particles is not a permanent sink as assumed in previous modeling studies. Aqueous-phase chemical reactions can produce the compounds IBr, ICl, and I2, which will be released back into the gas phase due to their low solubility. Our study, although highly theoretical, suggests that almost all particulate iodine is in the chemical form of IO-3. Other aqueous-phase species are only temporary reservoirs and can be re-activated to yield gas phase iodine. Assuming release rates of the organic iodine compounds which yield atmospheric concentrations similar to some measurements, we calculate significant concentrations of reactive halogen gases. The addition of iodine chemistry to our reaction scheme has the effect of accelerating photochemical Br and Cl release from the seasalt. This causes an enhancement in ozone destruction rates in the MBL over that arising from the well established reactions O(1D) + H2O 2OH, HO2 + O3 OH + 2O2, and OH + O3 HO2 + O2. The given reaction scheme accounts for the formation of particulate iodine which is preferably accumulated in the smaller sulfate aerosol particles.  相似文献

In the central area of the early paleozoic Damara belt migmatites and some types of granites (sensu lato) crop out. Conventional petrographic data were collected and melting experiments were carried out with 63 samples of such rocks. Based on these data, migmatite genesis can be classified as follows:
  1. Formation by partial melting and separation of more liquid and more crystalline fractions, the melting behaviour of these fractions has to be principally similar then.
  2. Formation by injection of “geologically liquid” crystal-melt mixes into rocks of (incidentally) similar or (more frequently) dissimilar melting behaviour.
  3. Formation by partial melting of metasediments of originally different composition. The method is applied and demonstrated for outcrops with complicated interrelations and it is shown that temperature estimates are possible thereby (670° to 710° at 4–5 kb H2O pressure in the central Damara belt).

A highly-fractionated garnet-bearing muscovite granite represents the marginal granitic facies of the Abu-Diab multiphase pluton in the Central Eastern Desert of Egypt. New electron microprobe analyses(EMPA) and laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(LA-ICP-MS) data from garnets are reported, in order to constrain their origin and genesis. Garnet in the Abu-Diab host granite is euhedral to subhedral, generally homogeneous and, in rare cases, it shows weak zonation. The garnet contains appreciable amounts of MnO and FeO, with lesser amounts of MgO and CaO, yielding an end-member formula of Sps_(61–72)Alm_(25–35)Prp_(1–4)Adr_(0–1). Moreover, it is depleted in large ion lithophile elements(LILE) with lower values of Ba, Nb and Sr relative to the primitive mantle. Additionally, it contains high concentrations of HREE and Y and their REE pattern shows strong negative Eu anomalies. The garnet was crystallized under relatively low temperature(646°C–591°C) and pressure( 3 kbar) conditions. The textural and chemical features indicate that the garnet is magmatic in origin and is chemically similar to that from highly-fractionated A-type granite. It was probably formed at the expense of biotite in a highly-evolved MnO-rich magma and/or by hydroxyl complexing of Mn during the ascending fluid phases.  相似文献

The capability of SODAR to measure the mean wind field in the lower boundary layer is well known and documented. Therefore, mean wind data are easily obtainable by means of the SODAR-technique, and are used to simulate the transport of pollutants after their release into the atmosphere. But when calculating the diffusion of pollutants, information about atmospheric turbulence is needed, too. In principle, a SODAR can measure turbulence data like the standard deviation of the vertical wind speed or horizontal wind direction. But when measuring turbulence data with a SODAR, one is beset by a host of limitations like volume sampling, spatial and temporal separation of sampling volume, attenuation of the acoustic waves and the slow speed of sound. Therefore, successful turbulence measurements with SODAR are not numerous and little is known about the quality of these data. In this context an intercomparison between a REMTECH-SODAR and a sonic anemometer mounted at the 100 m level of our meteorological tower was performed in summer 1990 at the Kernforschungszentrum Karlsruhe. The intercomparison is in two parts:
  1. Half hour mean values of the standard deviation of the vertical wind speed are intercompared by scatter plots and by a linear regression and correlation analysis.
  2. During 7 periods, 2 hours each, and covering atmospheric stabilities from unstable to slightly stable, the instantaneous vertical wind speeds were measured by both instruments and spectra were calculated.
The intercomparison demonstrates that DOPPLER-SODAR sounding is a reliable technique to determine besides the mean field, also athmospheric turbulence data like Sigma(w).  相似文献
