To study the wind field within the atmospheric boundary layer over the Tokyo metropolitan area, Doppler lidar observations
were made 45 km north of Sagami Bay and 30 km west of Tokyo Bay, from 14 May to 15 June 2008. Doppler lidar on 27 May 2008
observed the vertical and horizontal wind structure of a well-developed sea-breeze front (SBF) penetrating from Sagami Bay.
At the SBF, a strong updraft (maximum w approximately equal to 5 m s−1) was formed with a horizontal scale of about 500 m and vertical scale of 2 km. The spatial relationship between the strong
updraft over the nose of the SBF and prefrontal thermal suggests that the strong updraft was triggered by interaction between
the SBF and the thermal. After the updraft commenced, a collocated ceilometer observed an intense aerosol backscatter up to
2 km above ground level. The observational results suggest that the near-surface denser aerosols trapped in the head region
of the SBF escaped from the nose of the SBF and were then vertically transported up to the mixing height by the strong updraft
at the SBF. This implies that these phenomena occurred not continuously but intermittently. The interaction situations between
the SBF and prefrontal thermal can affect the wind structure at the SBF and the regional air quality. 相似文献

Diffusion and sorption behaviors of cationic Cs+, anionic I− and neutral HTO in samples of the Wakkanai Formation from the Horonobe underground research laboratory (URL), Japan, were investigated as a function of ionic strength (I) of synthetic groundwater by through-diffusion and batch sorption experiments and mechanistic modeling. The effective diffusivities (De) measured by through-diffusion experiments showed cation excess and anion exclusion effects, which were strongly dependent on I; De for Cs+ decreased as I increased, De for I− showed the opposite dependency and De for HTO showed no dependence. The sorption of Cs+ measured by through-diffusion and batch sorption experiments were described by Freundlich isotherms with consistent parameters and decreased with I as a result of competitive ion exchange.Diffusion and sorption behaviors were interpreted by assuming the clay components of illite and smectite control diffusion and sorption mechanisms. The component additive (CA) sorption model, which includes illite and smectite contents and their ion exchange constants, provided a reasonable account of the Cs+ sorption trends measured as functions of I and Cs concentration. The diffusion model was developed by coupling the electrical double layer (EDL) model, describing the change of ionic concentrations (cation excess and anion deficit) and viscoelectric effects caused by electrostatic interaction at negatively charged clay surfaces, and a simplified pore model assuming one type of pore shape and includes their size distribution. When averaging the electrostatic effects by using the pore surface area distribution, the model could predict the cation excess and anion exclusion effects, and its dependence on I reasonably well. This result implies the nanoscale pores dominating the pore surface area can strongly impact on ionic diffusion in argillaceous rocks. The clay-based modeling approach described here provides a useful tool to predict ionic diffusion and sorption in argillaceous rocks. 相似文献

Based upon our characterization of three separate stones by electron and X‐ray beam analyses, computed X‐ray microtomography, Raman microspectrometry, and visible‐IR spectrometry, Sutter's Mill is a unique regolith breccia consisting mainly of various CM lithologies. Most samples resemble existing available CM2 chondrites, consisting of chondrules and calcium‐aluminum‐rich inclusion (CAI) set within phyllosilicate‐dominated matrix (mainly serpentine), pyrrhotite, pentlandite, tochilinite, and variable amounts of Ca‐Mg‐Fe carbonates. Some lithologies have witnessed sufficient thermal metamorphism to transform phyllosilicates into fine‐grained olivine, tochilinite into troilite, and destroy carbonates. One finely comminuted lithology contains xenolithic materials (enstatite, Fe‐Cr phosphides) suggesting impact of a reduced asteroid (E or M class) onto the main Sutter's Mill parent asteroid, which was probably a C class asteroid. One can use Sutter's Mill to help predict what will be found on the surfaces of C class asteroids such as Ceres and the target asteroids of the OSIRIS‐REx and Hayabusa 2 sample return missions (which will visit predominantly primitive asteroids). C class asteroid regolith may well contain a mixture of hydrated and thermally dehydrated indigenous materials as well as a significant admixture of exogenous material would be essential to the successful interpretation of mineralogical and bulk compositional data. 相似文献

We study correlations amongst tidal fields originated by the large-scale distribution of matter in the Universe. The two-point tidal correlation is described as a rank-4 tensor, the elements of which can be written in terms of four fundamental scalar functions ranging, with respect to the spatial separation, from purely transversal to purely longitudinal correlations. Tidal fields, on both galaxy and cluster scales, are revealed to be correlated over distances larger than the mass–density correlation length, although traceless tidal fields show anti-correlation between diagonal terms along orthogonal directions. The cross-correlation between mass and tidal field is also analysed. These results are relevant for galaxy formation and the interpretation of large-scale weak lensing phenomena. 相似文献

A significant fraction of clusters of galaxies are observed to have substructure, which implies that merging between clusters
and subclusters is a rather common physical process in cluster formation. It still remains unclear how cluster merging affects
the evolution of cluster member galaxies. We report the results of numerical simulations that show the dynamical evolution
of a gas-rich, late-type spiral in a merger between a small group of galaxies and a cluster. The simulations demonstrate that
the time-dependent tidal gravitational field during merging excites non-axisymmetric structure of the galaxy, subsequently
drives efficient transfer of gas to the central region and finally triggers a secondary starburst. This result provides a
close physical relationship between the emergence of starburst galaxies and the formation of substructure in clusters. We
accordingly interpret post-starburst galaxies located near substructure of the Coma Cluster as one observational example indicating
the global tidal effects of group–cluster merging. Our numerical results further suggest a causal link between the observed
excess of blue galaxies in distant clusters and the cluster virialization process through hierarchical merging of subclusters.

In order to evaluate cumulus parameterization (CP) schemes for hydrological applications, the Pennsylvania State University–National Center for Atmospheric Research's fifth‐generation mesoscale model (MM5) was used to simulate a summer monsoon in east China. The performances of five CP schemes (Anthes–Kuo, Betts–Miller, Fritsch–Chappell, Kain–Fritsch, and Grell) were evaluated in terms of their ability to simulate amount of rainfall during the heavy, moderate, and light phases of the event. The Grell scheme was found to be the most robust, performing well at all rainfall intensity and spatial scales. The Betts–Miller scheme also performed well, particularly at larger scales, but its assumptions may make it inapplicable to non‐tropical environments and at smaller scales. The Kain–Fritsch scheme was the best at simulating moderate rainfall rates, and was found to be superior to the Fritsch–Chappell scheme on which it was based. The Anthes–Kuo scheme was found to underpredict precipitation consistently at the mesoscale. The Capané ophiolite is a fragment of oceanic lithosphere obducted into the Ediacaran Porongos fold and thrust belt, southern Brasiliano Orogen. A studied rodingite blackwall contained in serpentinite has metasomatic zircon that displays multiple U–Pb ages from Tonian to Cryogenian (793 ± 0.9, 757 ± 2.1, 715 ± 2.2 Ma). The ages are interpreted as corresponding to multiple alteration events in the mantle. Multiple U–Pb–Hf isotopes and trace element analyses on the same crystals by laser ablation were controlled by backscatered electron images. Hf isotopes indicate zircon origin from a depleted mantle (εHf = +15 to +10.7), and trace elements point to an oceanic origin. The Capané ophiolite thus marks the evolution of the Adamastor ocean during the Tonian and Cryogenian, a significant result for the reconstruction of Rodinia and Gondwana supercontinents. 相似文献
