We propose a new version of the Baade-Becker-Wesselink technique, which allows one to independently determine the color excess and the intrinsic color of a radially pulsating star, in addition to its radius, luminosity, and distance. The method is a generalization of the Balona approach. It also allows the function F(CI 0) = BC(CI 0) + 10 × log(T eff (CI 0)) for the class of pulsating stars considered to be calibrated. The reddenings of several classical Cepheids with very accurate light and radial-velocity curves and with bona fide membership in open clusters (SZ Tau, CF Cas,USgr, DL Cas,GY Sge) agree well with the reddening estimates of the host open clusters. The new technique can also be applied to other pulsating variables, e.g. RR Lyrae.  相似文献

By directly comparing the photometric distances of Blaha and Humphreys (1989) (BH) to OB associations and field stars with the corresponding Hipparcos trigonometric parallaxes, we show that the BH distance scale is overestimated, on average, by 10–20%. This result is independently corroborated by applying the rigorous statistical-parallax method and its simplified analog (finding a kinematically adjusted rotation-curve solution from radial velocities and proper motions) to a sample of OB associations. These two methods lead us to conclude that the BH distance scale for OB associations should be shrunk, on average, by 11±6 and 24±10%, respectively. Kinematical parameters have been determined for the system of OB associations: u 0 = 8.2 ± 1.3 km s?1, v 0 = 11.9 ± 1.1 km s?1, w 0 = 9.5 ± 0.9 km s?1, σ u = 8.2 ± 1.1 km s?1, σ v = 5.8 ± 0.8 km s?1, σ w = 5.0 ± 0.8 km s?1, Ω0 = 29.1 ± 1.0 km s?1 kpc?1, Ω0′ = ?4.57 ± 0.20 km s?1 kpc?2, and Ω0″ = 1.32 ± 0.14 km s?1 kpc?3. The distance scale for OB associations reduced by 20% matches the short Cepheid distance scale (Berdnikov and Efremov 1985; Sitnik and Mel’nik 1996). Our results are a further argument for the short distance scale in the Universe.  相似文献

An analysis of the residual-velocity field of OB associations within 3 kpc of the Sun has revealed periodic variations in the radial residual velocities along the Galactic radius vector with a typical scale length of λ = 2.0 ± 0.2 kpc and a mean amplitude of f R = 7 ± 1 km s?1. The fact that the radial residual velocities of almost all OB associations in rich stellar-gas complexes are directed toward the Galactic center suggests that the solar neighborhood under consideration is within the corotation radius. The azimuthal-velocity field exhibits a distinct periodic pattern in the 0°<l<180° region, where the mean azimuthal-velocity amplitude is f θ = 6 ± 2 km s?1. There is no periodic pattern of the azimuthal-velocity field in the 180°<l<360° region. The locations of the Cygnus arm, as well as the Perseus arm, inferred from an analysis of the radial-and azimuthal-velocity fields coincide. The periodic patterns of the residual-velocity fields of Cepheids and OB associations share many common features.  相似文献

The first data release from the Gaia mission (Gaia DR1) is used to study kinematics of OB associations. The mean velocity dispersion in 18 OB associations containing at least 10 stars with proper motions from the TGAS catalog is 3.9 km/s. The contribution of binary systems to the velocity dispersions in OB associations is, on average, 1.2 km/s. Expansion of the OB associations Per OB1 and Car OB1 is observed. This paper is based on a presentation made at the conference “Modern Astrometry 2017,” dedicated to the memory of K.V. Kuimov (Sternberg Astronomical Institute, Moscow State University, October 23–25, 2017).

Published photoelectric and CCD photometric data for fundamental-mode Cepheids in the Large Magellanic Cloud are analyzed. The inferred scatter of the observed period-luminosity relation decreases with increasing quality of the light curves used. The observed scatter of the period-luminosity relations in the V and IC bands is as low as 0m.11 and 0m.07, respectively, i.e., a factor of 1.5 smaller than the lowest published estimates. This, in particular, suggests that the intrinsic scatter might be lower than previously believed.  相似文献

Based on a sample of RR Lyrae variable stars including more than 9000 objects with proper motions and distances, we have investigated the kinematics of the Galactic halo from the two-dimensional velocity field. We have used both the proper motions deduced independently by us from the positional data taken from all-sky catalogues in a time interval up to 65 years and the proper motions taken from the Gaia DR2 catalogue. In addition, we have also studied the halo kinematics from the three-dimensional velocity field of ~850 RR Lyrae variables with distances, proper motions, and line-of-sight velocities. The kinematic parameters describing the velocity field have been estimated by the maximum-likelihood method; their change with Galactocentric distance has been investigated. The radial velocity dispersion in spherical coordinates σr ≈ 160?170 km s?1 exceeds its values from previous papers approximately by 20 km s?1, while the anisotropy parameter β ≈ 0.68?0.72 agrees satisfactorily with previous studies. When estimating the rotation velocity of the population of RR Lyrae stars, we identified the inner and outer halos with weak prograde and retrograde rotations, respectively.  相似文献
