We present the study of dust environment of dynamically new Comet C/2003 WT42 (LINEAR) based on spectroscopic and photometric observations. The comet was observed before and after the perihelion passage at heliocentric distances from 5.2 to 9.5 AU. Although the comet moved beyond the zone where water ice sublimation could be significant, its bright coma and extended dust tail evidenced the high level of physical activity. Afρ values exceeded 3000 cm likely reaching its maximum before the perihelion passage. At the same time, the spectrum of the comet did not reveal molecular emission features above the reflected continuum. Reddening of the continuum derived from the cometary spectrum is nonlinear along the dispersion with the steeper slop in the blue region. The pair of the blue and red continuum images was analyzed to estimate a color of the comet. The mean normalized reflectivity gradient derived from the innermost part of the cometary coma equals to 8% per 1000 Å that is typical for Oort cloud objects. However, the color map shows that the reddening of the cometary dust varies over the coma increasing to 15% per 1000 Å along the tail axis. The photometric images were fitted with a Monte Carlo model to construct the theoretical brightness distribution of the cometary coma and tail and to investigate the development of the cometary activity along the orbit. As the dust particles of distant comets are expected to be icy, we propose here the model, which describes the tail formation taking into account sublimation of grains along their orbits. The chemical composition and structure of these particles are assumed to correspond with Greenberg’s interstellar dust model of comet dust. All images were fitted with the close values of the model parameters. According to the results of the modeling, the physical activity of the comet is mainly determined by two active areas with outflows into the wide cones. The obliquity of the rotation axis of the nucleus equals to 20° relative to the comet’s orbital plane. The grains occupying the coma and tail are rather large amounting to 1 mm in size, with the exponential size distribution of a−4.5. The outflow velocities of the dust particles vary from a few centimeters to tens of meters per second depending on their sizes. Our observations and the model findings evidence that the activity of the nucleus decreased sharply to a low-level phase at the end of April–beginning of May 2007. About 190 days later, in the first half of November 2007 the nucleus stopped any activity, however, the remnant tail did not disappear for more than 1.5 years at least.  相似文献

The review is compiled on the basis of the results of the operation of the total ozone (TO) monitoring in the CIS and Baltic countries functioning in the operational regime at the Central Aerological Observatory (CAO). The monitoring system uses the data from the national network with M-124 filter ozonometers under methodological supervision of the Main Geophysical Observatory. The quality of the functioning of the entire system is under operational control based on the observations obtained from the OMI satellite equipment (NASA, the United States). The basic TO observation data are generalized for each month of the fourth quarter of 2011, for the quarter, and for the year as a whole. The features of the development of the spring Arctic and Antarctic ozone anomalies in 2011 are described. The results of regular observations of surface ozone content in the Moscow region are also generalized.  相似文献

On the basis of objective analysis of meteorological fields and 12-h precipitation amounts observed at the stations in the former European USSR, statistical relationships are studied between the diagnostic characteristics of dynamic forcing of vertical motion and occurrence frequency of precipitation of different intensity ranges over the whole area and each of six separate regions. The following diagnostics are considered: frontal parameter as a measure of baroclinicity and of pressure field curvature; neutral buoyancy level as a measure of grid-scale convective instability; scalar frontogenetic function at the 850-hPa level and dynamic tropopause height as measures of intensity of vertical transverse circulations in unstable baroclinic zones. Informativity estimates are presented of each diagnostic and their pair combinations as precipitation predictors. The frontal parameter (in all seasons) and the neutral buoyancy level (in all seasons but winter) are significant as single predictors of precipitation. Among the pair combinations of the diagnostics, those which include the frontal parameter are more informative, and the combination of the latter and the neutral buoyancy level is the most informative one. A comparable informativity, under certain conditions, is demonstrated by the combinations of the frontal parameter with the frontogenetic function and with the tropopause height (in particular, in winter and fall for heavy and very heavy precipitation). In all the cases, the values of the informativity criterion (Pierce’s index) are higher for more intense precipitation as a predictand.  相似文献

Comet C/1999 S4 was observed with the 2m-telescopes of the Bulgarian National Observatory and Pik Terskol Observatory, Northern Caucasus, Russia, at the time of its disintegration. Maps of the dust brightness and color were constructed from images obtained in red and blue continuum windows, free from cometary molecular emissions. We analyze the dust environment of Comet C/1999 S4 (LINEAR) taking into account the observed changes apparent in the brightness images and in plots of Afρ profiles as function of the projected distance ρ from the nucleus. We also make use of the syndyne-synchrone formalism and of a Monte Carlo model based on the Finson-Probstein theory of dusty comets. The brightness and color of individual dust particles, which is needed to derive theoretical brightness and color maps of the cometary dust coma from the Monte Carlo model, is determined from calculations of the light scattering properties of randomly oriented oblate spheroids. In general, the dust of Comet C/1999 S4 (LINEAR) is strongly reddened, with reddening values up to 30%/1000 Å in some locations. Often the reddening is higher in envelopes further away from the nucleus. We observed two outbursts of the comet with brightness peaks on July 14 and just before July 24, 2000, when the final disintegration of the comet started. During both outbursts an excess of small particles was released. Shortly after both outbursts the dust coma “turns blue.” After the first outburst, the whole coma was affected; after the second one only a narrow band of reduced color close to the tail axis was formed. This difference is explained by different terminal ejection speeds, which were much lower than normal in case of the second outburst. In particular in the second, final outburst the excess small particles could originate from fragmentation of “fresh” larger particles.  相似文献

The non-LTE potassium abundances in the atmospheres of 33 Galactic-disk stars are derived and the parameters of the atmospheres of 23 of the stars are determined. Neglecting departures from LTE results in a systematic overestimation of the potassium abundances and an increase in their dispersion, even for differential analyses relative to the Sun. The non-LTE corrections are significant ((?0.2)–(?0.6) dex) and depend on the surface gravities and effective temperatures of the stars. The mean potassium abundance for a sample of ten stars with [Fe/H]~0.0 is in agreement with the solar and meteoritic abundances (log ? (K)=5.12). As the stellar metallicity increases from [Fe/H]=(?1.0) to (0.2) dex, the [K/Fe] ratio decreases systematically from 0.3 dex to ?0.1 dex. The derived dependence [K/Fe]-[Fe/H] is in agreement with the results of published model calculations of the chemical evolution of the Galaxy. This indicates the dominance of explosive oxygen burning in massive type II supernovae during the synthesis of potassium in the Galactic disk.  相似文献

The Russian boreal forest contains about 25% of the global terrestrial biomass, and even a higher percentage of the carbon stored in litter and soils. Fire burns large areas annually, much of it in low-severity surface fires – but data on fire area and impacts or extent of varying fire severity are poor. Changes in land use, cover, and disturbance patterns such as those predicted by global climate change models, have the potential to greatly alter current fire regimes in boreal forests and to significantly impact global carbon budgets. The extent and global importance of fires in the boreal zone have often been greatly underestimated. For the 1998 fire season we estimate from remote sensing data that about 13.3 million ha burned in Siberia. This is about 5 times higher than estimates from the Russian Aerial Forest Protection Service (Avialesookhrana) for the same period. We estimate that fires in the Russian boreal forest in 1998 constituted some 14–20% of average annual global carbon emissions from forest fires. Average annual emissions from boreal zone forests may be equivalent to 23–39% of regional fossil fuel emissions in Canada and Russia, respectively. But the lack of accurate data and models introduces large potential errors into these estimates. Improved monitoring and understanding of the landscape extent and severity of fires and effects of fire on carbon storage, air chemistry, vegetation dynamics and structure, and forest health and productivity are essential to provide inputs into global and regional models of carbon cycling and atmospheric chemistry.  相似文献

We have developed a method for calculating deviations from LTE of level populations and profiles of selected spectral lines in stellar atmospheres in the presence of external radiation. The influence of Thomson scattering at the frequencies of the external radiation is considered. The method used to calculate model irradiated atmospheres in a semi-grey approximation has been improved. We have modified the NONLTE3 code used to determine the level populations to make it suitable for irradiated atmospheres. A model for the CaII atom including 42 energy levels of CaII, the ground state of CaIII, and 80 linearized transitions was constructed for these calculations. This atomic model takes into account the effect of all relevant collisional processes and radiative processes at the frequencies of the internal and external radiation. We investigated the correctness of the non-LTE calculations for the CaII ion by analyzing 16 lines of ionized calcium in the solar spectrum. The influence of uncertainties in the atomic data on the non-LTE level populations and CaII line profiles was also analyzed, and the van der Waals broadening coefficients C 6 were refined. The scaling coefficient in the Dravin formula was taken to be 0.1. We found the non-LTE abundance corrections for most lines to be significant (Δlog?(Ca)=0.05?0.15dex), even under the conditions for the solar atmosphere. The lines of the λ=8498, 8542, 8662 Å infrared triplet can be adequately described. Differences in the mean calcium abundance obtained using different model atmospheres are smaller than 0.02 dex. Our final estimate of the mean calcium abundance in the solar atmosphere is log?(Ca)=6.31, in good agreement with the meteoritic abundance, log?(Ca)=6.32.  相似文献

Based on sedimentological, mineralogical, geochemical, and micropaleontological data on the comprehensively investigated Core ASV 1372, the late Pleistocene-Holocene sedimentation history is reconstructed for the Voring marginal plateau (continental margin of the Norwegian Sea). The age model is constructed based on the correlation with several adjacent cores, for which the AMS radiocarbon dates are available. Lithostratigraphic correlation made it possible to compare stratigraphic division of Core ASV 1372 with other cores recovered from the Voring Plateau and the shelf and continental slope off the central Norway. It is concluded that the compositional and structural features of sediments are correlated with paleoclimatic and paleoceanographic changes, variations in provenances, as well as agents and pathways of sedimentary material transport.  相似文献

Importance of the study of the influence of coal oxidability on vitrinite reflectance (VR) as a criterion of the quality of coals and indicator of paleogeothermal regime is shown. Overview of relevant concepts demonstrates that this issue remains debatable. Carboniferous coals of the Dobrudja foredeep, which belong to the class of helitolites in terms of their microcomponent composition, were studied. They were subjected to oxidation during storage outdoors. Consequently, the VR value of high volatile bituminous (long-flame and gas ranks, according to the Russian classification) coals decreased, but this parameter remained virtually unaltered for medium volatile bituminous (fat) coals. Bulgarian researchers obtained similar results for Carboniferous coals of the Dobrudja basin represented by helitolites and mixtohumolites. In our opinion, the VR decrease in the course of coal oxidation is caused by decrease in the condensation and density of aromatic structures and increase in the share of nonaromatic carbon atoms.  相似文献
