The nutrient rich fractions in wastewater originating from human urine and can be recovered as solids for more efficient recycling, facilitated handling and storage for reuse in agriculture. Freezing and thawing can be used to concentrate the urine nutrients. Phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N) can be precipitated as struvite [(Mg,Ca)(K,NH4)(PO4)·6H2O] by adding MgO and additional nitrogen can be recovered by using zeolites. The zeolite in this study was pretreated in two ways: (i) washed and (ii) washed and thermally treated. The P recovery was high (> 97%) and the N recovery was ca. 50 to 60%. There was no significant difference in the nitrogen recovery among the different pretreated zeolites or between the pretreated and the untreated zeolite. Freezing had a positive effect on the nutrient concentration. The acute toxicity of the supernatants was tested on Daphnia magna to evaluate the possibilities of discharging the remaining supernatants to a recipient. The supernatants from the frozen treatments and from the unfrozen and washed zeolites were much less toxic than those of the original urine. The minerals acted as slow‐release fertilizers in climate chamber tests on spring wheat.  相似文献

The Hipparcos mission discovered a few dozen M giant stars with periods P shorter than 10 d. Similar stars may be found in other large data bases of new variables (e.g., OGLE). The three possible sources of the magnitude variations – pulsation, starspots and ellipsoidal deformation – are discussed in general terms. The parallaxes and V − I colour indices are used to calculate radii and temperatures for all M giant variables with P <100 d. Masses are estimated from the positions of the stars in a Hertzsprung–Russell (HR) diagram, using evolutionary tracks. Using these data, it is shown that starspots can be ruled out as a variability mechanism in almost all cases, and ellipsoidal variations in about half of the stars. Pulsation in very high-overtone modes appears to be the only viable explanation for the stars with P <10 d. Many of the stars may be multiperiodic. IRAS data are used to deduce information about reddening and circumstellar dust. The apparently low level of mass-loss, as well as the kinematics and the spatial distribution of the stars, indicates that they are from a relatively young (i.e., thin disc) giant star population.  相似文献

The study focuses on the spatial and temporal variations of intense/extreme rainfall events over Gujarat State (India) during the period 1970–2014. Average monsoon rainfall for the state shows a significant increasing trend, with an increase of 48 mm/decade. Some of the stations in the Saurashtra region show a statistically significant increasing trend but none of the stations in the state show a decreasing trend. The increasing trend in monsoon rainfall is very significant for the past three decades, with an increase of 167 mm/decade. Instead of fixed absolute threshold values, relative threshold values of rainfall corresponding to the 95th, 98th, 99th and 99.5th percentiles for each station have been proposed to represent heavy, very heavy, intense and extreme rainfall, which varied between 70–120, 105–160, 130–210 and 165–280 mm, respectively. Significant increasing trends are observed for the frequency of heavy and very heavy rainfall events over the state.  相似文献

Fracture propagation plays a key role for a number of applications of interest to the scientific community, from dynamic fracture processes like spallation and fragmentation in metals to failure of ceramics, airplane wings, etc. Simulations of material deformation and fracture propagation rely on accurate knowledge of material characteristics such as material strength and the amount of energy being dissipated during the fracture process. Within the combined finite-discrete element method (FDEM) framework material fracture behavior is typically described through a parametrized softening curve, which defines a stress-strain relationship unique to each material. We apply the Fourier amplitude sensitivity test to explore how each of these parameters influences the simulated damage processes and to determine the key input parameters that have the most impact on the model response. We present several sensitivity numerical experiments for the simulation of a split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) test for weathered granite samples using different combinations of model parameters. We validate the obtained results against SHPB experimental data. The experiments show that the model is mostly sensitive to parameters related to tensile and shear strengths, even in the presence of other parameter perturbations. The results suggest that the specification of tensile and shear strengths at the interfaces dominate the stress-time history of the FDEM simulation of SHPB test.  相似文献

鲑鱼是人类重要的食品来源之一,具有巨大的经济价值。同时,鲑鱼资源通过输送营养物质对维持溪流和陆地生态系统的结构、功能和过程等有重要作用。而鲑鱼是对温度极为敏感的冷水性鱼类,对气候变化的反应尤为明显。作者通过文献综述法梳理相关研究,从气候变化引起的温度变化、淡水和海洋环境的变化以及鱼病传播4个方面探讨对鲑鱼丰富度和繁殖的影响,并提出研究展望。研究显示:温度变化对鲑鱼的产卵和迁徙有较大影响;溪流和河流流量的改变会影响鲑鱼的迁徙和幼年鲑鱼的存活数量;温度和二氧化碳浓度的变化使海洋食物供应减少,鲑鱼丰富度降低;水温的升高使病原体增加,鲑鱼死亡率增加。本研究成果可为鲑鱼种群应对气候变化的研究及管理提供一定的理论支持。  相似文献

Mesoscale model simulations of representative trade winds impinging upon the Big Island of Hawaii are diagnosed for their mountain-wave characteristics by coupling a mesoscale model to a Fourier method. Localized phase-averaged wave momentum fluxes are calculated, which facilitates the study of wave generation from fine-scale topographic features. We find that the wave momentum fluxes are dominated by forcing from subsidiary topographic peaks, with the broader island topography controlling flow splitting and lee vortex generation. Waves also arise at the far northern and southern extremities of the island by acceleration of split flow. The strength of the local momentum fluxes proves to be sensitive to a small change in the incident flow direction. Areally integrated fluxes (wave drag) align closely with the incident flow direction and are an order of magnitude smaller than linear predictions and an order of magnitude larger than corresponding dividing streamline predictions. We briefly discuss the relevance of these results to the parameterization of subgrid-scale mountain-wave drag in climate and weather models.  相似文献

The importance of geochronology in the study of mineral deposits in general, and of unconformity-type uranium deposits in particular, resides in the possibility to situate the critical ore-related processes in the context of the evolution of the physical and chemical conditions in the studied area. The present paper gives the results of laser step heating 40Ar/39Ar dating of metamorphic host-rock minerals, pre-ore and syn-ore alteration clay minerals, and laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (LA-ICP-MS) U/Pb dating of uraninite from a number of basement- and sediment-hosted unconformity-related deposits in the Athabasca Basin, Canada. Post-peak metamorphic cooling during the Trans-Hudson Orogen of rocks from the basement occurred at ca 1,750 Ma and gives a maximum age for the formation of the overlying Athabasca Basin. Pre-ore alteration occurred simultaneously in both basement- and sandstone-hosted mineralizations at ca 1,675 Ma, as indicated by the 40Ar/39Ar dating of pre-ore alteration illite and chlorite. The uranium mineralization age is ca 1,590 Ma, given by LA-ICP-MS U/Pb dating of uraninite and 40Ar/39Ar dating of syn-ore illite, and is the same throughout the basin and in both basement- and sandstone-hosted deposits. The mineralization event, older than previously proposed, as well as several fluid circulation events that subsequently affected all minerals studied probably correspond to far-field, continent-wide tectonic events such as the metamorphic events in Wyoming and the Mazatzal Orogeny (ca 1.6 to 1.5 Ga), the Berthoud Orogeny (ca 1.4 Ga), the emplacement of the McKenzie mafic dyke swarms (ca 1.27 Ga), the Grenville Orogeny (ca 1.15 to 1 Ga), and the assemblage and break-up of Rodinia (ca 1 to 0.85 Ga). The results of the present work underline the importance of basin evolution between ca 1.75 Ga (basin formation) and ca 1.59 Ga (ore deposition) for understanding the conditions necessary for the formation of unconformity-type uranium deposits. This paper presents a numerical scheme for fluid‐particle coupling that uses the discrete element method by taking into consideration solid deformation and pore pressure generation. A new water particle element is introduced to calculate pore water pressure due to porosity changes. The water particle element has the same size and shape as the solid element and experiences the same amount of deformation. On the basis of the effective stress principle at the element contact, the total force is equal to the sum of the force transmitted through the solid element contact and the water particle force due to pore water pressure. Analytical solutions of traditional soil mechanics problems, such as isotropic compression and consolidated triaxial undrained test, are used to quantitatively validate the proposed model. The numerical results show good agreement between the model and the analytical solutions. The model therefore provides an effective method to calculate pore pressure in a porous medium in discrete modeling.  相似文献
