The late Quaternary history of the middle Caquetá River area in Colombia, northwestern Amazonia is described, based on observations of river bank sections, radiocarbon dates and palynological analyses of organic layers in floodplain and low terrace sediments of the Caquetá River. It is shown that the Late Pleistocene and Holocene climatic changes that took place in the Andean Cordilleras, were related to the depositional and erosional history of the Caquetá River in the Colombian Amazonian lowlands. The low terrace sediments consist of sandy and gravelly deposits covered by clays that sometimes contain lenses of peaty material. From these organic low terrace sediments, seven finite radiocarbon dates were obtained of Middle Pleniglacial age, between 56 000 and 30 000 yr BP. The coarse textured basal deposits of the low terrace apparently stem from the early part of the Middle Pleniglaciai period, during which the effective rainfall in the Andes was relatively high and the Andean glaciers had a considerable extension. Palynological data from silty sediments with organic remains at one site, show an interval when drier and more open types of vegetation on poor soils must have covered a larger area than today, but Amazonian forest was still the dominating type of vegetation. This interval might correspond to one of the Middle Pleniglacial savanna intervals from eastern Amazonia (Carajas). No organic sediments from the Upper Pleniglacial period were found and hence radiocarbon dates were not obtained. In the Andes this period had a very cold climate with low effective rainfall and in the east Amazonian Carajas area it is characterised by the relative extension of open savanna vegetation. The river run-off and sediment transport must have been much lower than in the Middle Pleniglacial and the Caquetá River cut itself down in its own sediments. Two Late-glacial radiocarbon datings obtained at one site (ca. 12 500 yr BP) indicate the existence of a Late-glacial sedimentation phase, separated from the Holocene sequence by a minor erosional phase. Organic layers in the Holocene floodplain sediments yielded 28 radiocarbon dates between 10 000 and 355 yr BP. Holocene sedimentation started with the rapid deposition of (sandy) clay possibly in a partly permanently inundated Caquetá valley. During the major part of the Holocene (silty) clays were deposited, with a dominant seasonal inundation cycle.  相似文献

We have obtained ISO SWS spectroscopy of WR 146 (WC6+O) covering the wavelength range 2.6-20 μm. WC6 wind emission is observed in numerous lines of He II and C IV, as well as in the [Ne III] 15.5 μm line, but not in [Ne II] 12.81 or [Ne V] 14.32 μm. An analysis of these spectra (and complementary radio and optical data) yields for the WC6 star: v∞ = 2700 km s-1; M=2.6×10-5M⊙yr-1; C/He = 0.15; and a neon abundance bound of 3.4×10-3≤Ne/He≤6.8×10-3. The neon abundance is close to that predicted in stellar evolution models of WC stars. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The uptake of Ni and Co in the hydrous Mn oxide or the amorphous Fe-oxide phases of ferromanganese deposits in the oceans was studied by electron-microprobe analyses of 17 natural manganese nodules and by experiments on desorption-dissolution of these metals from synthetic Fe oxide or Mn oxides and natural nodule material. Ni was found to occur nearly always in the Mn-oxide phases of natural nodules, while Co occurs both in the Mn-oxide and Fe-oxide phases, with a slight preference for the latter. The solubility of Ni and Co (from coprecipitates of these metals with Fe hydroxides after aging) in seawater was found to depend strongly on the crystallinity of the host phase. The adsorption of Co by the synthetic Mn oxides from seawater was higher than that of Ni. The experimentally determined solubility of Ni and Co in seawater from natural nodule material is extremely low and matches the concentration range of these metals in ocean water.  相似文献

To verify paleomagnetic proof for megatectonic translation in the Tethys a large collection of samples from a key area, the Bolzano Quartz Porphyry Plateau in the Southern Alps, was examined. Their natural remanent magnetization was analyzed with thermal, and mainly alternating field demagnetization. The result is a well-established paleomagnetic direction of D: 150° and I: −19.5° (95 = 4.9), obtained from 152 samples from 39 sites distributed over 12 volcanic units. It is argued that the inclination of this result is not significantly different from that which can be extrapolated for the Southern Alps from Early Permian paleomagnetic directions of the stable European shield. Consequently it is concluded that a paleomagnetic indication for megatectonic translation of the Southern Alps is virtually absent. But a large counterclockwise deviation of the declination is evident, and is easily explained by a counterclockwise rotation of 50° of the Southern Alps with respect to stable Europe. Since the paleomagnetic direction of the Early Permian volcanics of the Southern Alps fits in reasonably well with the (poorly known) Early Permian paleomagnetic pattern of Africa, a coherence between both regions is presumed.  相似文献

The Pb content of natural deep-sea ferromanganese deposits decreases with depth. This is commonly explained by assuming oxidation of Pb2+ and uptake as (Mn, Pb)O2 in normally oxygenated shallow water, a process that is less likely to occur in deep water which is somewhat depleted in oxygen. This concept is discussed and rejected, both on theoretical grounds and based on experimental results of Pb2+ sorption by Mn oxides. Comparative sorption experiments on Mn oxides were carried out with Pb and Ba. It is shown that Pb is preferentially adsorbed by birnessite at pH ? 4. The uptake ratio is, however, much lower than the relative enrichment factor in natural nodule material. Suggested explanations for this discrepancy are: influence of hydrostatic pressure and extent of hydrolysis of the cations at the pH of ocean water.  相似文献

This paper attempts to provide a better understanding of the hydrodynamic behavior of a tandem hull form in a floating production platform application where high deck payload capacity and low wave induced motions of this vessel are primary design goals. A simplified hydrodynamic analysis and a more representative radiation and diffraction theory based hydrodynamic analysis are used for wave induced forces and motions. The analysis results are compared with model test results to deduce principal features of these special purpose hull configurations. The motion responses in different wave headings evaluated from the complicated diffraction analysis are compared and discussed in some detail.  相似文献

In order to investigate the mechanism by which o,p'-DDT disrupts endocrine functioning of Nile tilapia in vivo, the estrogenicity of o,p'-DDT was investigated in conjunction with 17beta-estradiol (E2) and tamoxifen. Mature, male tilapia were treated intraperitoneally with o,p'-DDT (60 mg/kg, one dose) or E2 (5 mg/kg, four doses) in the presence or absence of tamoxifen (5 mg/kg, six doses) for 12 days and then plasma vitellogenin (Vtg) (measured as alkaline-labile phosphorous), E2, and testosterone (T) were measured. Vtg levels were increased dramatically by E2 (1,744 +/- 171 microg/ml) and moderately by o,p'-DDT (82 +/- 15 microg/ml) compared with controls (23 +/- 3.5 microg/ml). Tamoxifen alone had no effect on Vtg production, but inhibited both E2 and o,p'-DDT stimulated vitellogenesis. T levels were reduced with E2 administration (1,688 +/- 383 pg/ml) and declined further with the combined treatment of E2 and tamoxifen (281 +/- 70 pg/ml), compared with controls (6,558 +/- 1,438 pg/ml). Tamoxifen or o,p'-DDT alone did not affect T levels, but their combined treatment did (2,069 +/- 647 pg/ml). The results of this study suggest that o,p'-DDT is weakly estrogenic in male tilapia, and that this activity may be mediated through the estrogen receptor.  相似文献
