A geophysical signature associated with Nb–Ta–Sn mineralization of G. (G. : abbreviation to word Gebel which means mountain in Arabic) Nuweibi area, located the Central Eastern Desert of Egypt is presented. This signature was established by an integration of airborne gamma ray spectrometric and magnetic data. Variations seen in the gamma ray spectrometric data are used as a base to study the three granitic suites: younger-, albite-, and older granites in G. Nuweibi area. Graphical techniques such as frequency histograms and box-plots are used to visualize the shape of the distribution and determine the anomaly thresholds of the three radioelements eU, eTh, and K% data in these granitic suites. The box-plot graphical representations and calculations made on data sets indicate that no samples have eU values above the thresholds, i.e., no outliers representing values of the box-plots. Nuweibi albite granite is associated with a gamma ray response that includes the strongest eU, eTh, K%, and eTh/K ratio anomalies in the study area. K–eTh plot shows that the albite granite has a higher eTh concentration than the older and younger granites. The increase in K concentration and raise in Th/K ratio of Nuweibi albite granite points to unusual geological processes leading to mineralization and reflects the highly fractionated nature of the magma which results in thorium enrichment. This also reflects that K alteration associated with Nb–Ta–Sn mineralization is both poorly focused spatially and very much weaker than observed in any other mineralizing districts. The distribution of magnetic sources and their locations and depths in the study region are determined by Euler deconvolution and analytical signal techniques. Good clustering of Euler solutions were obtained using SI?=?0.5 and SI?=?1.0 for most of the features in the area under consideration. The solutions obtained have shown magnetic sources which can be related to the impact structure whose depths varies between ground surface to 1.66 km. The analytical signal revealed that the metamorphosed basic rocks (mainly olivine metagabbro), serpentinite and dyke bodies are the main sources of high magnetic anomalies, particularly within the area east G. Abundant and well-preserved assemblages of plant macrofossils occur from the Hojedk Formation at Babhutk, Kerman, Iran. This new locality is the first in the Jurassic of Kerman where the plant material is shown preserved. Eight species of seven genera were identified representing five different gymnosperm groups: Nilssonia cf. undulata, Nilssonia cf. orientalis, Elatides sp., Podozamites sp., and Williamsonia asseretoii and two pteridophyt groups: Equisetites laterale and Coniopteris sp. The collected flora suggests subtropical conditions at the time of deposition of the Hojedk Formation. Based on stratigraphical distributions of the encountered macrofossils, Bajocian–Bathonian age is suggested for the lower and middle unit of the Hojedk Formation. These plant fossils help confirm conclusions from recent geological studies that place the Kerman Basin of Iran during the Jurassic. 相似文献

In most arid zones, groundwater (GW) is the major source of domestic, agriculture, drinking, and industrial water. Accordingly, the monitoring of its quality by different techniques and tools is a vital issue. The purpose of this paper is the evaluation of the combination of principal components analysis (PCA) and geostatistics as a technique for (1) identifying the processes affecting the groundwater chemistry of the detrital unconfined Middle Miocene Aquifer (MMA) of the Hajeb elyoun Jelma (HJ) aquifer (Tunisia) and (2) mapping the controlling variables for groundwater quality. This work is based on a limited database recorded in 22 wells tapping the aquifer and unequally distributed in the field. The proposed approach is carried out in two steps. In the first step, the application of PCA revealed that rock–water interaction, agriculture irrigation and domestic effluents could explain 85 % of the observed variability of the chemical GW quality of the MMA. As a result, two new variables are defined: V1 (rock–water interaction influence) and V2 (irrigation and domestic effluent influence). In the second step, the spatial variability of these variables over the extent of the MMA is mapped by applying a kriging interpolation technique. The results of this study suggest that, while both natural and anthropogenic processes contribute to the GW quality of the MMA, natural impacts can be considered as the most important. 相似文献

This paper presents a GIS-based multi-criteria site selection for municipal solid waste landfilling in Ariana Region, Tunisia. Based on the regional characteristics, literature related to disposal sites and waste management, local expert, data availability and assessments via questionnaires, 15 constraints, and 5 factors were built in the hierarchical structure for landfill suitability by multi-criteria evaluation. The factors are divided into environmental and socio-economic groups. The methodology is used for preliminary assessment of the 20-year most useful lifetime suitable landfilling sites by combining fuzzy set theory, weighted linear combination (WLC) and analytic hierarchy process (AHP) in a GIS environment. The criteria standardization is undertaken by application of different fuzzy membership functions. The fuzzy membership functions shape and their control points are chosen through assessment of expert opinion. The weightings of each selection criterion are assigned depending on the relative importance using the AHP methodology. The WLC approach is applied for alternative landfill sites prioritization. The results of this study showed five potential candidate sites, which are generated when the environmental factors are valued higher than socio-economic factors. These sites are ranked in descending order using the ELECTRE III method. However, the final decision will require further detailed geotechnical and hydrogeological analyses toward the protection of groundwater as well as surface water. 相似文献

Output generated by hydrologic simulation models is traditionally calibrated and validated using split‐samples of observed time series of total water flow, measured at the drainage outlet of the river basin. Although this approach might yield an optimal set of model parameters, capable of reproducing the total flow, it has been observed that the flow components making up the total flow are often poorly reproduced. Previous research suggests that notwithstanding the underlying physical processes are often poorly mimicked through calibration of a set of parameters hydrologic models most of the time acceptably estimates the total flow. The objective of this study was to calibrate and validate a computer‐based hydrologic model with respect to the total and slow flow. The quick flow component used in this study was taken as the difference between the total and slow flow. Model calibrations were pursued on the basis of comparing the simulated output with the observed total and slow flow using qualitative (graphical) assessments and quantitative (statistical) indicators. The study was conducted using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model and a 10‐year historical record (1986–1995) of the daily flow components of the Grote Nete River basin (Belgium). The data of the period 1986–1989 were used for model calibration and data of the period 1990–1995 for model validation. The predicted daily average total flow matched the observed values with a Nash–Sutcliff coefficient of 0·67 during calibration and 0·66 during validation. The Nash–Sutcliff coefficient for slow flow was 0·72 during calibration and 0·61 during validation. Analysis of high and low flows indicated that the model is unbiased. A sensitivity analysis revealed that for the modelling of the daily total flow, accurate estimation of all 10 calibration parameters in the SWAT model is justified, while for the slow flow processes only 4 out of the set of 10 parameters were identified as most sensitive. The 2nd century AD earthquake in central Italy is only known by an epigraph that mentions restorations to a damaged weighing-house
at the ancient locality of Pagus Interpromium. The available seismic catalogues report this event with the conventional date of 101 AD, a magnitude M
aw of 6.3, and an epicentral location at the village of San Valentino in Abruzzo Citeriore, in the province of Pescara. In order
to improve the knowledge of the damage pattern, we gathered all the archaeological data collected during modern excavations
at sites located in the area, which were presumably struck by the earthquake. This information is mainly represented by (1)
stratigraphic units due to the sudden collapse of buildings over still frequented floors; (2) stratigraphic units demonstrating
restoration or re-building of edifices; (3) stratigraphic units formed as the result of the abandonment of sites or of their
lack of frequentation for decades or centuries. Only stratigraphic evidence consistent with an earthquake occurrence during
the 2nd century AD has been considered. The most recent archaeological material found in a collapsed unit is a coin of Antoninus
Pius, dated at 147–148 AD. This may represent a post quem date very close to the occurrence of the earthquake. The gathered information, plus the stratigraphic data that excluded
the earthquake occurrence at some sites, has allowed us to roughly delineate an area of possible damage, including the Sulmona
Plain and surrounding areas. Comparisons between the possible 2nd century damage distribution and (i) the damage patterns
of more recent historical events that have struck the investigated area, (ii) the distribution of virtual intensities obtained
by simulating an earthquake having an epicenter in the Sulmona Plain and applying an intensity attenuation relationship and
(iii) a shaking scenario obtained by modelling the activation of the major active fault of the Sulmona Plain area (the Mt.
Morrone fault) have revealed consistency between the ancient earthquake and the activation of this fault. Since no other historical
events can be attributed to this active fault, we conclude that the time that has elapsed since the last fault activation
should be in the order of 1,850 years, i.e. a time span that is very close to the recurrence interval of Apennine seismogenic
sources. Moreover, considering the fault length, the causative source may be responsible for earthquakes with M up to 6.6–6.7. The comparison between the presumed 2nd century damage and the shaking scenario suggests that the magnitude
mentioned is consistent with the presumed effects of the ancient earthquake. Finally, considering that Sulmona (the most important
town in the region investigated) is located in the middle of the Mt. Morrone fault hanging wall, we consider it as the probable
epicentral area. Therefore, to summarise the information on the 2nd century AD earthquake, we can conclude that (i) it occurred
shortly after 147–148 AD; (ii) a magnitude M
w 6.6–6.7 can be attributed to it and (iii) the probable macroseismic epicentral area was Sulmona. 相似文献

The present research evaluated the relation between the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) changes and the climate change during 2000–2014 in Qazvin Plain, Iran. Daily precipitation and mean temperature values during 2015–2040 and 2040–2065 were predicted using the statistical downscaling model (SDSM), and these values were compared with the values of the base period (2000–2014). The MODIS images (MOD13A2) were used for NDVI monitoring. In order to investigate the effects of climate changes on vegetation, the relationship between the NDVI and climatic parameters was assessed in monthly, seasonal, and annual time periods. According to the obtained results under the B2 scenario, the mean annual precipitation at Qazvin Station during 2015–2040 and 2040–2065 was 6.7 mm (9.3%) and 8.2 mm (11.36%) lower than the values in the base period, respectively. Moreover, the mean annual temperature in the mentioned periods was 0.7 and 0.92 °C higher than that in the base period, respectively. Analysis of the correlations between the NDVI and climatic parameters in different periods showed that there is a significant correlation between the seasonal temperature and NDVI (P < 0.01). There are some key challenges in the geotechnical applications of microbially induced CaCO3 precipitation technique. These challenges mainly arise from lack of enough control on precipitation patterns within the soil. Monitoring precipitation progress in treatment solution (biogrout) before injection provides useful information on controlling the precipitation pattern. In this study, a hybrid of electrical conductivity change measurements and precipitation mass measurements was proposed for the monitoring. The results were described as characteristic curves which would provide useful information on interpreting, estimating, and steering the precipitation pattern within the soil. The effects of some influencing factors on the precipitation patterns were also statistically investigated. With the increased demand for groundwater resulting from fast demographic growth, accelerated urbanization, economic and agricultural activity diversification, and the increase of per capita consumption, ground water resources, in particular in coastal regions, remain relatively low, compared to demand. The groundwater quality and piezometric variations result mainly from intensive exploitation, agricultural activities and the intrusion of seawater. This phenomenon is observed mostly in semi-arid areas, such as the oriental Sahel of Tunisia, where an apparent reduction in rainfall in recent years can be seen. Groundwater becomes overexploited especially as its natural recharge by rainwater does not succeed in maintaining the hydrologic balance. The imbalance between water demand and resources induces the degradation of the water quality. In such a case, the artificial recharge of water-table aquifers by water from dams is a credible alternative to improve the hydrodynamic and physicochemical conditions of the groundwater. Like most coastal aquifers, the Teboulba water-table aquifer is threatened by overexploitation for at least three decades. This threat appears by a considerable piezometric level drop and by water salinisation, due to seawater intrusion. Given this alarming situation, since 1971, artificial recharge through wells with surface water from a dam was tested in order to restore the water levels and to improve water quality. The piezometric and chemical surveys of the Teboulba aquifer permitted one to describe the temporal and spatial piezometric and geochemical conditions of the aquifer and to show the effect of the artificial recharge. Indeed, the artificial recharge undertaken since 1971 made the geochemical and piezometric conditions of the Teboulba aquifer improve. This example is a rare, well-documented case-study of the benefits of artificial recharge in a coastal aquifer, over the long term. 相似文献
