Holocene sediments from southern Spencer Gulf are cool‐water carbonate‐rich gravels and sands, dominated by molluscs and Bryozoa. Five sedimentary fades are recognized: (i) molluscan gravel; (ii) branching coralline‐algal gravel, associated with shallow partially protected environments; (iii) molluscan‐biyozoan sand; (iv) mixed bioclastic sand, representative of the deeper central region of the lower gulf; and (v) bryozoan gravel, an isolated fades developed in a semi‐protected micro‐environment. The southern gulf is characterized by complex oceanographic conditions together with variations in water depth and substrate. The sediments share the characteristics of both the southern shelf and upper Spencer Gulf. Grain‐size distribution and sedimentary facies are controlled by a combination of all the above processes. Past sea level fluctuations are recognized from sea floor strand‐line deposits. The relic component of the palimpsest sediments has eroded from the Pleistocene aeolianite dunes. The sediments, therefore, reflect both the modern marine and past environments.  相似文献

A radiotracer technique, employing 27Mg, is used to determine the Mg released by ammonium exchange on undis-solved humic acid in a seawater medium. This new method allows for the measurement of exchangeable Mg on the solid phase surface, which eliminates the problem caused by the high-Mg background in the seawater matrix. The precision calculated from the counting statistics is better than ±2%; the reproducibility among repeated counts ranged from ±1% to ±3%. The higher sensitivity of the method allows for monitoring the Mg---NH4 exchange at concentrations as low as 30 mM NH4. This is a major improvement relative to the data obtained with the analytical methods used so far, which allow detection of exchangeable Mg only at NH4 concentrations higher than 1 M. The lower experimental concentrations are more in accordance with the natural ammonium levels found in anoxic marine sediments. For the undissolved humic acid used in this experiment, the amount of exchangeable Mg in apparent equilibrium with an ammonium-free seawater matrix was found to be 96.6 ± 0.4 meq/100g. The Mg---NH4 exchange on humic acid in seawater comes to a steady-state value in < 18 min. The conditional equilibrium constant obtained for this reaction, Kcond = 0.039 ± 0.001 M−1. The technique can be expanded to other geochemical solid phases in seawater and it can be modified to study the behavior of the major cations by using 24Na, 42K and 49Ca.  相似文献

Strong-motion recordings at 87 sites from 56 different intraplate earthquakes from North America, Europe, China and Australia have been used through a two-step regression analysis to develop new attenuation models for peak ground acceleration, and for pseudo-relative velocity for frequencies of 0.25, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 5.0 and 10.0 Hz, all for 5 per cent of critical damping. The estimates are obtained along with an analysis of residuals and scatter. A similar regression analysis has been performed also for Fourier spectra of acceleration, in which case the coefficient for the anelastic term has been interpreted in terms of a frequency dependent quality factor Q. The resulting Q-model shows a strong frequency sensitivity with values around 600–700 at 1 Hz, around 2000 at 10 Hz and around 5200 at 25 Hz. These PGA, PSV and Q results depend, however, on the underlying assumption for geometrical spreading, in particular for low frequencies.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung Im Sommer 1952 wurden von Prof.Otto Jaag im Zürichsee cine Reihe von Tiefenbohrungen ausgeführt. Ein Bohrkern von 830 cm L?nge, der in 140 m Seetiefe entnommen worden war, wurde pollenanalytisch durchge-gearbeitet. Der See erreicht an dieser Stelle seine gr?sste Tiefe, und sein Boden ist auf einer Fl?che von 1000 m Breite und 7000 m L?nge ganz flach, was dafür Gew?hr bietet, dass die Sedimentation ungest?rt vor sich gehen konnte. Der Bohrkern bestand aus tonreichem Mergel oder unreiner Soekreide, mit einzelnen Einlagerungen von Sand (Abb. 2). Er reichte bis in die waldfreie Zeit des Sp?tglazials hinab. Die Ergebnisse der Pollenanalyse sind in den Abbildungen 2 und 3 zusammengestellt. In Abbildung 2, rechts aussen, wird versucht, die Ablagerung nach den Zeitstufen vonBlytt-Sernander undFranz Firbas zu gliedern. Dabei ergaben sich Schwierigkeiten, und es ist fraglich, ob die natürlichen Grenzen in unserm Diagramm mit der zeitlich festgelegten Periodeneinteilung der oben genannten Forscher immer in übereinstimmung gebracht werden k?nnen. Auch wenn die gleiche Waldfolge gefunden wird, so dürften die Waldzeiten im Alpenvorland teilweise wesentlich früher in Erscheinung getreten sein als weiter gegen Norden hin.
Summary During the summer of 1952 several deep boring into the underground of the Zürich-see were carried out by Prof. Dr.O. Jaag. One boring core with a length of 830 cm obtained under 140 m lake water was carefully investigated by pollenanalysis. In the spot from where this core originated, the lake reaches its greatest depth and its bottom is entirely flat within an area of 1000 m to 7000 m, which guarantees that the sedimentary process could continue without disturbance. The boring core consisted of loamy marl or lake-lime (Seekreide) with very few sandy layers (Fig. 2). The eldest samples date from woodless late-glacial time. Results of pollenanalysis are summarized in Figures 2 and 3. In Figure 2 (right outside) it was tried to divide the deposit into time-periods according toBlytt-Sernander andF. Firbas. However there arose certain difficulties and it remains doubtful, whether the natural limits in our diagram agree in each case with the fixed periods of the above named authors. Even where the same sequence of forest-development is found it is likely that some of the same forestperiods were realized considerably earlier in the foreland of the Alps than in northernmore parts of Europe.

Lower and Upper Cretaceous sediments were investigated in the Peruvian Central Cordillera. As in the western facies of Central and Northern Peru, the Goyllarisquisga Group is subdivided into several lithologically different formations, in which sediments were transported from east to west. The area of investigation is situated west of the facies boundary between Marañon geanticline and West Peruvian trough; this indicates that the boundary continues south and does not follow the line Celendin-Rio Palanga as suggested byWilson. The limestones and dolomites of the Santa Formation were deposited in shallow water, possibly with intermittent subaerial exposure. The sandstone of the Farrat Formation are interpreted to be sediments of a west-east transgression; vertically they grade into the limestones of the Pariahuanca-Formation. Facies and thickness of the Chulec and Pariahuanca-Formation are little different from those in neighbouring areas. During deposition of the thick Jumasha Formation, the differences are much more significant, and only comparison with Northwest Peru shows some agreement.  相似文献

Ten GEOSECS profiles from the North Pacific have been analyzed for210Pb. GEOSECS226Ra data on the same profiles are used to calculate210Pb excess or deficiency relative to secular equilibrium. The resultant profiles are divisible into a thermocline zone (<2000m) showing an expected decrease with depth, a mid-water zone of about 2000 m showing small constant deficiencies with a zone of increasing deficiency to a bottom zone of about 1000 m having the highest deficiency virtually invariant with depth. The exponentially decreasing portion in the thermocline yields a “diffusion” coefficient of 3 cm2/s. The mid-water deficiencies yield ? model residence times of 400 years northeast of Hawaii decreasing to 100 years at the most marginal stations.  相似文献
