During a systematic search for periodic signals in a sample of ROSAT PSPC (0.1–2.4 keV) light curves, we have discovered ∼12-min large-amplitude X-ray pulsations in 1WGA J1958.2+3232, an X-ray source which lies close to the Galactic plane. The energy spectrum is well fitted by a power law with a photon index of 0.8, corresponding to an X-ray flux level of ∼ 10−12 erg cm−2 s−1 . The source is probably a long-period, low-luminosity X-ray pulsar, similar to X Per, or an intermediate polar. 相似文献

The rate of decomposition of potassium ethyl monothiocarbonate has been determined at pH values between 5 and 10, and its molar absorptivity at 221 nm determined to be 1.24 · 104mol/cm.A novel apparatus for use in the study of reactions between sulphide minerals, oxygen and thiol reagents has been developed, and applied to the reactions of potassium ethyl xanthate with galena and pyrite. It has been shown that both minerals react with ethyl xanthate in the presence of oxygen or oxidation products to form soluble as well as adsorbed xanthate derivatives. The soluble derivative has been identified to be ethyl monothiocarbonate. The adsorbed xanthate at a galena surface, unlike that at a pyrite surface, is gradually converted to a soluble monothiocarbonate under the action of dissolved oxygen. The effect of variables such as pH, the initial xanthate and oxygen concentrations, and the initial state of oxidation of the mineral on the formation of monothiocarbonate has been studied. It is tentatively proposed that an intermediate adsorbed mixed xanthate-hydroxide species is involved in the formation of monothiocarbonate at both galena and pyrite surfaces.The significance of the formation of monothiocarbonate to flotation practice is discussed briefly. The formation of monothiocarbonate represents a wastage of reagent, and could lead to a decrease in flotability of xanthated galena with time of exposure to aerated solutions. 相似文献

As part of the STRATAFORM project, a series of cores were obtained from the Eel River Margin area of Eureka, California. The geotechnical analysis of intact specimens and of reconstituted samples provides some insight on the development of shear strength with burial. The results show the effect of bioturbation in the early part of the lifetime of a sediment. SEDCON tests were used to proposed various relationships which help predict the changes in density, liquidity index, and strength as a function of depth. These relationships are found useful from near the water sediment-interface down to a depth of at least 400 m in the sediment column. 相似文献

The dynamics of trace elements from phosphate rock ore to the environment in a phosphoric acid plant located in SW Spain and the impact of phosphogypsum wastes were investigated through total digestion and BCR-sequential extraction. Based on total concentration, element transfer factors as criteria for examining the potential environmental risk of waste with respect to ore rock were calculated, and it was observed that most trace elements are only transferred into phosphogypsum at rates of 2–12%. However, based on those concentrations that are likely to be most readily mobile in the environment, phosphogypsum acts as a higher emission source of contaminants than the original rock. About 100 million tonnes of phosphogypsum are stack-piled in a dump of 1200 ha over salt-marshes of an estuary formed by the confluence of the Tinto and Odiel rivers. Phosphogypsum has been applied, at the recommended rate of 20–25 t/ha since 1978–2001, to improve fertility and reduce Na saturation in agricultural soils of the Guadalquivir river valley (140 km2). Phosphogypsum capacity as a source of mobile contaminants in three environmental scenarios (water leaching, exposure to oxidising and reducing conditions) was quantified by combining sequential extraction and waste mass. The amounts of mobile contaminants that could be released for every tonne of phosphogypsum are approximately 7 × 102 g Sr, 1.1 × 102 g Fe, 55 g Y, 30 g Ce, 12 g Cr, 11 g Ti, 5 g Zn, 4 g each of Cu and Pb, 3 g each of V and Cd, 2 g each of As and Ni and 1 g U. Multiplying these amounts by 100 Mt and 20–25 t/ha, it is possible to calculate risk assessments of phosphogypsum for both estuarine zones, e.g. in a hypothetical stack collapse and waste spilling, and agricultural soils, respectively. 相似文献

The Hudson Bay Lowlands (HBL) stores a significant proportion of the northern peatland carbon pool, and constraints on the factors controlling local-scale variation are needed to better predict soil carbon stocks. We investigated two treed peatland sites, a fen and a bog, to understand how local ecohydrological factors impacted long-term carbon storage. Ecohydrological conditions were reconstructed using quantitative water table depth reconstructions from testate amoebae (TA) and broad peat type classifications. We also linked these factors and carbon storage to changes in TA community structure through the investigation of morphological and functional traits. Both sites have high rates of peat vertical accretion during the warmer Middle Holocene. A shift to a drier, Sphagnum-dominated habitat after 7400 cal a bp at the bog site, however, led to lower apparent carbon accumulation rates (aCARs) than at the fen site. aCARs decreased with the transition to a cooler Late Holocene climate at both sites. Both sites have higher total carbon masses (kg m−2) than other more open and younger HBL localities, demonstrating the potential importance of treed peatlands in regional carbon storage. Shifts in the frequency of TA traits corresponded to changing ecohydrological conditions and provided insights into the role of TA in carbon storage. 相似文献
