Amber occurrences in Brazil are rare. In this regard, the molecular composition of three such fossil resin samples from Brazilian Cretaceous sedimentary basins has been analyzed to determine the botanical origin of the resins. The samples were collected from the Amazonas (Alter do Chão Formation), Araripe (Santana Formation, Crato Member) and Recôncavo (Maracangalha Formation, Caruaçu Member) basins. The mono-, sesqui- and diterpenoids in the extracts were used as chemosystematic markers when compared with terpenoids in extant conifers. The compounds were mainly diterpenoids and their degradation products from the labdane, podocarpane, pimarane and isopimarane classes, in addition to paraffins, methoxyphenols and carboxylic acids. Tetracyclic diterpenoids such as phyllocladane, kaurenol and kauranol were also present. The biomarker compositions are certainly typical for conifers and, given the absence of triterpenoids and diterpenoids such as ozic acid, angiosperms can be excluded as a botanical source. The absence of phenolic diterpenoids (ferruginol, totarol) and their derivatives excludes podocarpaceous affinities for the ambers from the Amazonas and Araripe basins. The fossil records of the embedding sediments (e.g. Araucariaceae pollen and leaves) support the proposal of an Araucariacae origin for these ambers, but Cupressaceae and Cheirolepidiaceae cannot be excluded. On the other hand, the presence of phyllocladane and kaurane derivatives is evidence for Araucariaceae or Podocarpaceae origins for the amber from the Recôncavo basin, but Cupressaceae cannot be excluded. 相似文献

The study aims to calibrate/validate and apply the dune-erosion model, XBeach, in order to predict morphological response to storm events along a meso-tidal, steeply sloping beach. More than 10,000 XBeach calibration runs, including different model parameters and erosion events, were compared with measurements of beach-profile response to storm conditions. Off-shore wave and tidal measurements were used as input for a SWAN wave model, which was used to provide wave conditions to XBeach. The results indicate that using XBeach to predict beach-profile morphodynamic response during storm events on steeply sloping intermediate-to-reflective beaches may be more demanding than for dissipative beaches and that the default model setup can overestimate dune/beach-face erosion. The performance of the model after calibration was satisfactory, with Brier Skill Scores from 0.2 to 0.72. XBeach was found to be more sensitive to input parameters such as the beach-face slope and the surf similarity parameter ξ (especially for values ξ?>?0.6). The calibrated XBeach setup was used for simulations of storm scenarios with different return periods (5, 25, and 50?years), and the simulations highlighted the fragility of the dune field and the potential for storm-induced dune retreat, lowering, and overwash in the study area. Finally, the nested SWAN/XBeach models were forced by an existing operational wave-forecast WAVEWATCH-III/SWAN model, operated by the Portuguese Hydrographic Institute to generate daily forecasts of storm impact and serve as a prototype-case for an early warning system for storm hazard mitigation. 相似文献

Microbiological monitoring of bivalves from the Ria Formosa Lagoon (south coast of Portugal): a 20 years of sanitary survey 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The microbiological pollution of coastal waters is a major problem, especially in shellfish areas. This article shows the faecal contamination in bivalves from the Ria Formosa Lagoon (south coast of Portugal) along 20 years (1990-2009). The highest values of Escherichia coli in bivalves were obtained during the 90s, related with the discharge of untreated wastewaters and agricultural runoff. In the 2000s contamination levels decreased, with 83% of the population already served by new or remodelled sewage treatment plants. The highest levels were found in bivalves close to the largest city, where punctual and diffuse contamination sources still exist. Bivalves from the less impacted site showed the lowest contamination, an area with more water renewal. Seasonally, the highest levels were in autumn and winter, due to the runoff of waters from rainfall. These were opposite to those in spring and summer, when the highest temperatures and salinity showed a bactericidal effect. 相似文献

SMART-1 is a technology demonstration mission for deep space solar electrical propulsion and technologies for the future.
SMART-1 is Europe’s first lunar mission and will contribute to developing an international program of lunar exploration. The
spacecraft was launched on 27th September 2003, as an auxiliary passenger to GTO on Ariane 5, to reach the Moon after a 15-month
cruise, with lunar capture on 15th November 2004, just a week before the International Lunar Conference in Udaipur. SMART-1
carries seven experiments, including three remote sensing instruments used during the mission’s nominal six months and one
year extension in lunar science orbit. These instruments will contribute to key planetary scientific questions, related to
theories of lunar origin and evolution, the global and local crustal composition, the search for cold traps at the lunar poles

This paper summarizes the results of an experimental site investigation and characterization survey, on a residual (saprolitic)
soil from granite, in the framework of a research project led by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP).
This project aims at characterizing these unusual soils in the context of the development of an International Prediction Event
(Class A) on the behaviour of different types of piles. A very extensive site characterization campaign, including a large
variety of in-situ tests and field methods, has been held. These investigations comprised the application of several geophysical
borehole and surface methods, namely P- and S-wave seismic refraction, reflection, cross-hole (CH), down-hole (DH), electrical
resistivity imaging and ground probing radar (GPR), as well as mechanical tests, namely SPT, CPT and DMT, among others. The
site is geologically formed by an upper layer of heterogeneous residual granitic soil, overlaying rather weathered granite
contacting a gneissic migmatite. Direct and indirect results from some of the referred surveys were compared between them
and with some of the available geological and geotechnical information, namely those obtained from seismic, electrical and
GPR profiles, conducted adjacent to three boreholes in which undisturbed soil samples were collected previously to geophysical
data acquisition. In addition, a comprehensive laboratory testing program was carried out using the collected undisturbed
samples. A discussion of the obtained results is hereby presented, giving emphasis to the correlations encountered between

The Eocene Farim‐Saliquinhé phosphate mineralization (FSPM) is a buried sedimentary deposit located in the northern part of Guinea‐Bissau, discovered and spatially constrained during the 1980s by the French Geological Survey (BRGM). In the present work some of the data collected at that time are reworked in the framework of the development of a 3D geological and geochemical model of this mineralization. We show the usefulness of two classical multivariate statistical methods – principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis (CA) – applied to eight geochemical variables (P2O5, SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, CaO, MgO, F and CO2) measured in 247 samples from phosphate facies, for differentiation of samples taken from the different phosphate facies recognized in the FSPM, namely the main ore FPA (30 to 35% high grade phosphate), the calcareous low grade phosphate FPB (10 to 20% P2O5) (both Lutetian), and a mineralized Upper Eocene to Lower Oligocene cover (mainly including the FPO level and a silico‐aluminous phosphate bed), overlying the FPA, which can also be considered a third set of phosphate facies associated with the FSPM. 相似文献
