The Numidian Sequence represents one of the main tectono-stratigraphic units involved in the geological evolution of the Maghrebian orogen during the Upper Oligocene-Lower Miocene. Geo-structural aqalysis led to the reconstruction of tectonc-stratigraphic units and recognition of two main tectonic phases (Eocene and Lower Miocene). Sedimentological analysis of the studied sections has resulted in the distinction of arenaceous and conglomeratic facies generated by debris flows or high-density turbidity currents on a submarine slope, present within the pelitic-arenaceous and arenaceous-pelitic sequences which also contain slumped units in places. Previous and new micropalaeontological data indicate Late Oligocene-Early Burdigalian ages for the Numidian sequences of the Constantine Mountains. On the basis of petrographic study the Numidian rocks can be classified as poorly sorted quartzarenites containing siliciclastic matrix. The overall petrographic data indicate that the Continental intercalaire (Hoggar, Tassili and Fezzan) and Series Pharusienne (Hoggar and Eglab) are possible supply areas for the Numidian quartz.  相似文献

Summary. A method is outlined to determine the dynamic behaviour of a phase boundary in the Earth when non-uniform time-varying pressure and temperature conditions are assumed at the Earth's surface. An integral equation describing the phase boundary motion is derived and it is solved under a linearizing assumption. The solution is obtained in the form of a double integral transform. Short and long time-expansions of the solution can be obtained from series expansion and integration of the Laplace transform along a branch cut. The method is illustrated by considering a stepwise change in surface pressure conditions.
For short times, the solution exhibits the same type of time dependence (i.e. the first-order term is in t 1/2) as the one obtained in the one-dimensional case (i.e. uniform pressure perturbation at the Earth's surface).
For long times, it is shown that the time dependence of the phase boundary motion is almost identical to the one derived for the one- dimensional case if the wavenumber k L of the surface excitation is such that κ k 2Lτ≤ 1 (where τ is the relaxation time associated with the one-dimensional phase boundary motion and κ is the thermal diffusivity). If κ k 2Lτ > 1, then the relaxation time for the phase boundary motion in two dimensions is of the order of κ−1 k −2L.
When considering parameters that would be appropriate for a basalt to eclogite phase transition at Moho depth, the latter situation is met only when the load wavelength is smaller than 35 km.  相似文献

Equilibrium boron isotopic fractionations between trigonal B(OH)3 and tetragonal B(OH)4 aqueous species have been calculated at high P-T conditions using measured vibrational spectra (Raman and IR) and force-field modeling to compute reduced partition function ratios for B-isotopic exchange following Urey’s theory. The calculated isotopic fractionation factor at 300 K, α3/4 = 1.0176(2), is slightly lower than the formerly calculated value of α3/4 = 1.0193 (Kakihana and Kotaka, 1977), due to differences in the determined vibrational frequencies. The effect of pressure on α3/4 up to 10 GPa and 723 K is shown to be negligible relative to temperature or speciation (pH) effects. Implications for the interpretation of boron fractionation in experimental and natural systems are discussed. We also show that the relationship between seawater-mineral B isotope fractionation and pH can be expressed using two variables, α3/4 on one hand, and the pKa of the boric acid-borate equilibrium on the other hand. This latter value is given by the equilibrium of boron species in water for the carbonate-water exchange, but could be governed by mineral surface properties in the case of clays. This may allow defining intrinsic paleo-pHmeters from B isotope fractionation between carbonate and authigenic minerals. Finally, it is shown that fractionation of boron isotopes can be rationalized in terms of the changes in 1) coordination of B from trigonal to tetrahedral in both fluids and minerals; and 2) the ligand nature around B from OH in the fluid and some hydrous minerals to non-hydrogenated O in many minerals. Relationships are established that allow predicting the isotopic fractionation factor of B between minerals and fluid.  相似文献

The removal of Cu, Zn, and Cd from a sandy soil was investigated using iron filings as an adsorbent, and subsequently recovering the iron filings by magnetic separation. The best treatment was obtained by using 5% iron filings and 3 h contact time between iron filings and the soil. The metal removal efficiency from soil extracts was evaluated, using MetPLATETM, a toxicity test that is specific for heavy metals, and the 48 h Ceriodaphnia dubia acute toxicity test. The toxicity removal was generally higher than 95% for Cu after a single treatment. With regard to Zn-spiked soil, the toxicity removal was 96.1%, 70.0%, and 49.6% after single treatment at the input concentration of 200 mg/kg, 400 mg/kg, and 800 mg Zn2+/kg soil, respectively. After two or three successive treatments, more than 90% of the toxicity was removed for 400 mg/kg and 800 mg/kg Zn-spiked soils. In the case of Cd-spiked soil, a single treatment removed 51.1% of the toxicity from 200 mg/kg Cd-spiked soil extracts while more than 90% of the toxicity was removed after two or three treatments. Chemical analysis and a mass balance study were also carried out to investigate the Cu distribution in the soil fractions. The results indicate that, before treatment, a large portion of Cu was immobilized in the soil matrix. Following magnetic separation, Cu was removed from both the soil matrix and extracts and was indeed adsorbed and concentrated on the iron filings. The retrieval of Cu by iron filings was further examined by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS).  相似文献

Collision and stress trajectories in Taiwan: a finite element model   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Field analyses of Plio-Quaternary compressional deformations in Taiwan have enabled us to reconstruct the paleostress trajectories resulting from the collision of the Luzon arc (Philippine Sea plate) with the Chinese continental margin (Eurasian plate). The direction of the maximum compressional stress σ1 shows a fan-shaped pattern that we interpret as resulting from the collision of a rigid body (the Luzon arc) indenting a more deformable material (the thick sediments of the Chinese continental margin). Simple analytical models qualitatively explain the fan-shaped pattern, but the influence of various parameters such as boundary conditions and rheology cannot be quantitatively accounted for by this approach. Consequently, we have used a finite element technique to compute the stresses and strains induced by the push of a rigid body against a two-dimensional, viscous material. The boundary conditions are the velocities based on plate kinematics. A motion in the N300°E direction best explains the stress trajectories observed in central Taiwan. Viscosity contrasts as well as small changes in the shape of the northern edge of the indenter have little influence on the computed stress pattern. The most important parameter is the direction of convergence. Our model quantitatively explains the general pattern of the stress trajectories observed in the collision zone of Taiwan, between the Philippine Sea plate and Eurasia.  相似文献

We first re-examined the apparent polar wander curves for stable Eurasia and Africa since the Triassic. These curves were then combined together with curves of North and South America according to the kinematics of the Atlantic ocean and a synthetic polar wander curve was given. Then, most of the paleomagnetic results from the Tethys mobile belt, from the Atlantic to the Pamirs, were analysed.Several groups of plates, microplates and blocks can be seen. First, relatively stable regions like Maghreb and Sicily, which have not moved much. Then we have a group formed by Iberia, Sardinia, Italy and, to a lesser extent, Corsica and the Western and Central Alps. For these blocks, movements are anticlockwise rotations chiefly driven by the anticlockwise rotation of Africa, but they are sometimes stronger. To the east, a major change takes place. The north of the Aegean Sea and the Ionian zone are clockwise rotated and these rotations are recent: Oligocene-Miocene for the first part, Pliocene to the present for the second part.A major problem arises in Turkey, Caucasus and Iran. Paleomagnetic results indicate a position far to the south of Eurasia, and, at the same time, geological evidence is in favour of a position close to Eurasia. We discuss these discrepancies.  相似文献

Gneiss domes and plutonic granitoid domes make up almost 50% of the pre-Hercynian terrains in the Central and Eastern Pyrenees. From a structural study of the shape and internal structure of the domes and of their relationships with the enclosing rocks, it can be shown that both types of domes were emplaced diapirically during the major regional deformation phase and the peak of regional metamorphism. The study also shows that the internal structure, the overall shape and general behaviour relative to the host rocks are similar for plutonic domes and for gneiss domes. This appears to be in good agreement with H. Ramberg's (1967, Gravity Deformation and the Earth's Crust. Academic Press, London; 1970, Model studies in relation to intrusion of plutonic bodies. In: Mechanisms of Igneous Intrusion (edited by Newall, G. & Rast, N.) Geol. J. Spec. Issue2, 261–286.) model studies showing that dome or mushroom-like structures, similar to those observed, develop when there is a small viscosity ratio between the rising body and its enclosing medium. This implies a high crystal content for the granitoid magma. This crystal content has been estimated by (i) calculating the viscosity and density in natural conditions from petrological data for the magma considered as a suspension, using the model and program of J. P. Carron et al. (1978 Bull Soc. géol. Fr.20, 739–744.); (ii) using the recent results of experimental deformation of partially melted granites of I. van der Molen & M. S. Paterson (1979, Contr. Miner. Petrol.70, 299–318.) and (ii) comparing the preceding results with the data obtained by deformation experiments on rocks similar to those enclosing the domes. The minimum crystal content for the development of a dome-like structure has been, thus, estimated to about 70%, i.e. a value very close to that estimated by van der Molen & Paterson (1979) to be the critical value separating the granular framework flow from suspension-like behaviour. The effect of small variations in the viscosity of the rising body are then simulated by centrifuge experiments. These small variations appear to exert a strong control on the shape and rate of rise of the domes. They are thought to be sufficient to account for the variations in shape and structure and the level of emplacement of the different types of gneissic and plutonic domes. Finally, more complex experiments, with models built in order to simulate as closely as possible the natural structural evolution of the region as deduced from petrological and structural data, are reported. Their implications for the regional interpretation of the relationships between gneissic and plutonic domes is then discussed.  相似文献

Data collected during the french VOVES-1977 experiment are used for the determination of the functionsA() andB() of the stability parameter . It is found that, although pertaining to different geographic conditions, they lead to the same kind of dependency ofA andB upon as found previously considered data. The influence of baroclinicity onA andB is also studied and it is found in that, statistically, consideration of this parameter does not lead either to a decrease of the large scatter of experimental points or to a significant improvement of the similarity theory. It is also shown that a satisfactory estimation of the surface geostrophic wind can be made from the network of meteorological stations, to compute such functions.  相似文献
