The mass accretion process onto the hot component of AG Dra and its explosive phenomena are discussed. The hot component seems to be a massive white dwarf (M>1 M). The mass accretion rate is estimated to be about 10–7M/year. Many properties of the explosive phenomena agree with those of mild hydrogen flashes expected from this rapid mass accretion.Paper presented at the IAU Colloquium No. 93 on Cataclysmic Variables. The nucleus of the Seyfert 1.5 galaxy NGC 5548 was very faint and the intensity of the broad emission component of H was unusually low in March–April and in July 1990. Similar stages was found only twice in this decade, in 1979 and 1981, prior to the present one. The very broad components of He I and He II were not detected in 1990.The blueward edge of the broad component of H was much steeper than the redward one in 1990, in contrast to the profiles with the opposite asymmetry in the years 1979–1981. This result suggests that a main part of the broad component blueshifted in the recent several years. An upper limit of the displacement of the broad component of H occurred during the years from 1984 to 1990 was estimated to be about - 2000 km s–1. If this variation of the radial velocity was due to an orbital motion of the exciting source in a binary system, the total mass of the system is about 6 × 106 M . The luminosity of the nucleus is the same order of the Eddington limit of this total mass.  相似文献

The time-sequence of polar magnetic substorms is discussed to clarify some controversies on the magnetospheric substorm model including the growth phase. The main purpose of the analyses is to examine magnetic variations in the polar cap and in low latitudes. The onset of the expansion phase is confirmed to be reasonably defined by a vector change of polar-cap magnetic disturbance, a sharp intensification of the auroral electrojet disturbance and the beginning of positive ΔH disturbance in midlatitudes near midnight. It is shown that the growth phase signatures so far proposed are consistent when the onset of the expansion phase is identified from the above mentioned features.  相似文献

Bivalve shells offer several advantages over tissues for the monitoring of heavy metal pollutants in the marine environment. They are easier to handle and to store. The problem of whether to depurate the animals before analyses is avoided. The shells appear to be more sensitive to environmental heavy metals levels over the long term than do the soft parts. Of the substances examined (Cd, Cu, Zn, Pb, Ag, Ni, 238Pu and 239 + 240Pu) only Pb and Pu displayed a strong covariance between soft tissue and shell concentrations. There were strong correlations between metals in the shell but not in the soft tissues in general. The byssal threads, because of their enrichment of transuranic elements and of their ease in handling, may be useful in monitoring these metals. A very weak discharge of 238Pu to marine waters adjacent to a nuclear reactor was detected in the byssal threads of mussels.  相似文献

The development and propagation of the diurnal tidal currents along the Okhotsk coast of Hokkaido is made clear using newly obtained data. the diurnal currents are generated at the Soya Strait by the difference of the tidal amplitude and phase between the Sea of Okhotsk and the Japan Sea, and propagate as the shelf waves trapped along the coast. As a result, the amplitude in the coast becomes small and the phase is advanced for 12 hours compared to those in the offshore area. For the semidiurnal tides, the influence of the difference of the tides between both seas is restricted near the strait because they are quickly dispersed as the Poincaré wave.  相似文献

A field survey of the 1992 Flores Island earthquake tsunami was conducted during December 29, 1992 to January 5, 1993 along the north coast of the eastern part of Flores Island. We visited over 40 villages, measured tsunami heights, and interviewed the inhabitants. It was clarified that the first wave attacked the coast within five minutes at most of the surveyed villages. The crust was uplifted west of the Cape of Batumanuk, and subsided east of it. In the residential area of Wuring, which is located on a sand spit with ground height of 2 meters, most wooden houses built on stilts collapsed and 87 people were killed even though the tsunami height reached only 3.2 meters. In the two villages on Babi Island, the tsunami swept away all wooden houses and killed 263 of 1,093 inhabitants. Tsunami height at Riang-Kroko village on the northeastern end of Flores Island reached 26.2 meters and 137 of the 406 inhabitants were killed by the tsumani. Evidence of landslides was detected at a few points on the coast of Hading Bay, and the huge tsunami was probably formed by earthquake-induced landslides. The relationship between tsunami height and mortality was checked for seven villages. The efficiencies of trees arranged in front of coastal villages, and coral reefs in dissipating the tsunami energy are discussed.  相似文献

Many serpentinite seamounts occur over a region 20–120 km west of the trench axis in the Izu-Ogasawara-Mariana forearc regions. The hydrogen and oxygen isotopic compositions of serpentine from these regions indicate that there are at least two kinds of waters responsible for serpentinization: seawater and water derived from dehydration of the descending slab. Serpentine from two Mariana and two Torishima samples with microscopically ductile and sheared texture (sheared-type) have lowerδD(−63to−52‰) and slightly higherδ18O values (+6.1 to +8.2‰) than that of other nine Ogasawara samples with mesh texture (mesh-type) (δD= −43to−49‰ andδ18O= +5.8to+6.7‰). This suggests that the sheared-type serpentine with lowerδD and slightly higherδ18O values was formed within the wedge mantle by interaction with water derived from a descending slab. The sheared texture is likely to have been produced during diapiric uplift. The unaltered portion of the ultramafic bodies later interacted with seawater after emplacement at or near the seafloor, resulting in formation of the mesh-type serpentine with higherδD values.  相似文献

Oxygen isotope exchange between BaSO4 and H2O from 110 to 350°C was studied using 1 m H2SO4-1 m NaCl and 1 m NaCl solutions to recrystallize the barite. The slow exchange rate (only 7% exchange after 1 yr at 110°C and 91% exchange after 22 days at 350°C in 1 m NaCl solution) prompted the use of the partial equilibrium technique. However, runs at 300 and 350°C were checked by complete exchange experiments. The temperature calibration curve for the isotope exchange is calculated giving most weight to the high temperature runs where the partial equilibrium technique can be tested. Oxygen isotope fractionation factors (α) in 1 m NaCl solution (110–350°C), assuming a value of 1.0407 for αCO2H2O at 25°C, are:

.These data, when corrected for ion hydration effects in solution (Truesdell, 1974), give the fractionation factors in pure water:
1031nαBaSO4H2O = 3.01 (106/T2) ?7.3 ± 0.1
.In the 1 m H2SO4-1 m NaCl runs, sulfur isotope fractionation between HSO?4 and BaSO4 is less than the detection limit of 0.4%. A barite-sulfide geothermometer is obtained by combining HSO?4H2S and sulfide-H2S calibration data.Barite in the Derbyshire ore field, U.K., appears to have precipitated in isotopic equilibrium with water and sulfur in the ore fluid at temperatures less than 150°C. At the Tui Mine, New Zealand, the barite-water geothermometer indicates temperatures of late stage mineralization in the range 100–200°C. A temperature of 350 ± 20°C is obtained from the barite-pyrite geothermometer at the Yauricocha copper deposit, Peru, and oxygen isotope analyses of the barite are consistent with a magmatic origin for the ore fluids.  相似文献

Spectrophotometric observations in optical region ( 38008000 Å) on the symbiotic object V 1329 Cyg (HBV 475) were carried out with the 122 cm telescope of the Astrophysical Observatory of Asiago in 1979 and 1980. Significant changes of intensity of emission lines with a time-scale of a few weeks were observed. The results of these observations suggest that probably V 1329 Cyg is a Nova-like object with recurrent outbursts at intervals of about 950 days. The properties of this object seem to agree with those of a white dwarf which is accreting mass rapidly.  相似文献
