The characterization of the sediments, down to bedrock, is very important from the seismological point of view in order to study the possible earthquake effects (site effects). Resonance frequency and shear-wave velocity profile are the main features used to estimate the thickness and stiffness of the sedimentary cover. To map these characteristics different geotechnical, geophysical and seismological methods have been developed and applied over a last few years. In this work, different soil investigation methods have been applied around the Himalayan foothills, focusing on three sites with different soil characteristics that span from the Doon valley to the Ganga foreland basin. Active and passive array experiments were carried out: Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves (active MASW), Passive Remote MASW and f–k technique. A dispersion curve was estimated for every site covering a wider frequency band rather than if only one method would have been used. Moreover, ambient noise measurements were also recorded in order to apply the H/V method and to estimate the resonance frequencies. Combining the information provided from all methods and using the neighbourhood algorithm, the best suitable shear (S) wave velocity profiles were estimated for each area. In this way, soil sediments were characterized by the resonance frequency, the soil thickness and the mean S-wave velocity. It has been demonstrated that the use of different methods give coherent and more robust results than when only one method is applied. This greatly contributes to the credibility of the results.  相似文献

In this paper we have searched for the existence of Lyra's cosmology in a hybrid universe with minimal interaction between dark energy and normal matter using Bianchi-V space-time. To derive the exact solution, the average scale factor is taken as a =(t~ne~(kt))1/m which describes the hybrid nature of the scale factor and generates a model of the transitioning universe from the early deceleration phase to the present acceleration phase. The quintessence model makes the matter content of the derived universe remarkably able to satisfy the null, dominant and strong energy condition. It has been found that the time varying displacement β(t) co-relates with the nature of cosmological constant Λ(t). We also discuss some physical and geometrical features of the universe.  相似文献

This paper reports on the Sub-keV Atom Reflecting Analyzer (SARA) experiment that will be flown on the first Indian lunar mission Chandrayaan-1. The SARA is a low energy neutral atom (LENA) imaging mass spectrometer, which will perform remote sensing of the lunar surface via detection of neutral atoms in the energy range from 10 eV to 3 keV from a 100km polar orbit. In this report we present the basic design of the SARA experiment and discuss various scientific issues that will be addressed. The SARA instrument consists of three major subsystems: a LENA sensor (CENA), a solar wind monitor (SWIM), and a digital processing unit (DPU). SARA will be used to image the solar wind-surface interaction to study primarily the surface composition and surface magnetic anomalies and associated mini-magnetospheres. Studies of lunar exosphere sources and space weathering on the Moon will also be attempted. SARA is the first LENA imaging mass spectrometer of its kind to be flown on a space mission. A replica of SARA is planned to fly to Mercury onboard the BepiColombo mission.  相似文献

Impact of sea breeze on wind-seas off Goa, west coast of India   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
After withdrawal of the Indian Summer Monsoon and until onset of the next monsoon, i.e., roughly during November–May, winds in the coastal regions of India are dominated by sea breeze. It has an impact on the daily cycle of the sea state near the coast. The impact is quite significant when large scale winds are weak. During one such event, 1–15 April 1997, a Datawell directional waverider buoy was deployed in 23 m water depth off Goa, west coast of India. Twenty-minute averaged spectra, collected once every three hours, show that the spectrum of sea-breeze-related ‘wind-seas’ peaked at 0.23 ±0.05 Hz. These wind-seas were well separated from swells of frequencies less than 0.15 Hz. The TMA spectrum (Bouwset al 1985) matched the observed seas spectra very well when the sea-breeze was active and the fetch corresponding to equilibrium spectrum was found to be 77±43 km during such occasions. We emphasize on the diurnal cycle of sea-breeze-related sea off the coast of Goa and write an equation for the energy of the seas as a function of the local wind  相似文献

Statistical analysis of water quality parameters were analyzed at Harike Lake on the confluence of Beas and Sutlej rivers of Punjab (India). Mean, median, mode, standard deviation, kurtosis, skewness, coefficient of variation, regression lines, correlation coefficient, Hurst exponent, fractal dimension and predictability index were estimated for each water parameter. Monthly variation of water quality index using month-wise and parameter-wise value of quality rating and actual value present in water sample was calculated and compared with World Health Organization/Environmental Protection Agency standard value of these parameters. It was observed that Brownian time series behavior exists of potential of hydrogen with total dissolved solids, hardness, alkalinity, sulfate, chloride and conductance parameters; biochemical oxygen demand with total dissolved solids, hardness, alkalinity, sulfate, chloride, conductance and calcium parameters; dissolved oxygen with total dissolved solids, hardness, alkalinity, sulfate, chloride, conductance and calcium parameters; ferrous with total dissolved solids, hardness, alkalinity, sulfate, conductance and calcium parameters; chromium with total dissolved solids, hardness, alkalinity, sulfate, chloride, conductance and zinc parameters; zinc with total dissolved solids, hardness, sulfate, chloride, conductance and calcium parameters; fluoride with total dissolved solids, hardness, alkalinity, sulfate, chloride and conductance parameters; nitrate with total dissolved solids, sulfate and conductance parameters; nitrite with potential of hydrogen, total dissolved solids, hardness, alkalinity, sulfate, chloride, conductance and calcium parameters. Also, using water quality index, it was observed that water of the lake was severely contaminated and became unfit for drinking and industrial use.  相似文献

While X‐ray astronomy began in 1962 and has made fast progress since then in expanding our knowledge about where in the Universe X‐rays are generated by which processes, it took one generation before the importance of a fundamentally different process was recognized. This happened in our immediate neighborhood, when in 1996 comets were discovered as a new class of X‐ray sources, directing our attention to charge exchange reactions. Charge exchange is fundamentally different from other processes which lead to the generation of X‐rays, because the X‐rays are not produced by hot electrons, but by ions picking up electrons from cold gas. Thus it opens up a new window, making it possible to detect cool gas in X‐rays (like in comets), while all the other processes require extremely high temperatures or otherwise extreme conditions. After having been overlooked for a long time, the astrophysical importance of charge exchange for the generation of X‐rays is now receiving increased general attention. In our solar system, charge exchange induced X‐rays have now been established to originate in comets, in all the planets from Venus to Jupiter, and even in the heliosphere itself. In addition to that, evidence for this X‐ray emission mechanism has been found at various locations across the Universe. In this study, both reflectivity and radial velocity are assimilated into the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model using ARPS 3DVAR technique and cloud analysis procedure for analysis and very short range forecast of cyclone ÁILA. Doppler weather radar (DWR) data from Kolkata radar are assimilated for numerical simulation of landfalling tropical cyclone. Results show that the structure of cyclone AILA has significantly improved when radar data is assimilated. Radar reflectivity data assimilation has strong influence on hydrometeor structures of the initial vortex and precipitation pattern and relatively less influence is observed on the wind fields. Divergence/convergence conditions over cyclone inner-core area in the low-to-middle troposphere (600–900 hPa) are significantly improved when wind data are assimilated. However, less impact is observed on the moisture field. Analysed minimum sea level pressure (SLP) is improved significantly when both reflectivity and wind data assimilated simultaneously (RAD-ZVr experiment), using ARPS 3DVAR technique. In this experiment, the centre of cyclone is relocated very close to the observed position and the system maintains its intensity for longer duration. As compared to other experiments track errors are much reduced and predicted track is very much closer to the best track in RAD-ZVr experiment. Rainfall pattern and amount of rainfall are better captured in this experiment. The study also reveals that cyclone structure, intensification, direction of movement, speed and location of cyclone are significantly improved and different stages of system are best captured when both radar reflectivity and wind data are assimilated using ARPS 3DVAR technique and cloud analysis procedure. Thus optimal impact of radar data is realized in RAD-ZVr experiment. The impact of DWR data reduces after 12 h forecast and it is due to the dominance of the flow from large-scale global forecast system model. Successful coupling of data assimilation package ARPS 3DVAR with WRF model for Indian DWR data is also demonstrated.  相似文献

A new approach to ensemble forecasting of rainfall over India based on daily outputs of four operational numerical weather prediction (NWP) models in the medium-range timescale (up to 5 days) is proposed in this study. Four global models, namely ECMWF, JMA, GFS and UKMO available on real-time basis at India Meteorological Department, New Delhi, are used simultaneously with adequate weights to obtain a multi-model ensemble (MME) technique. In this technique, weights for each NWP model at each grid point are assigned on the basis of unbiased mean absolute error between the bias-corrected forecast and observed rainfall time series of 366 daily data of 3 consecutive southwest monsoon periods (JJAS) of 2008, 2009 and 2010. Apart from MME, a simple ensemble mean (ENSM) forecast is also generated and experimented. The prediction skill of MME is examined against observed and corresponding outputs of each constituent model during monsoon 2011. The inter-comparison reveals that MME is able to provide more realistic forecast of rainfall over Indian monsoon region by taking the strength of each constituent model. It has been further found that the weighted MME technique has higher skill in predicting daily rainfall compared to ENSM and individual member models. RMSE is found to be lowest in MME forecasts both in magnitude and area coverage. This indicates that fluctuations of day-to-day errors are relatively less in the MME forecast. The inter-comparison of domain-averaged skill scores for different rainfall thresholds further clearly demonstrates that the MME algorithm improves slightly above the ENSM and member models.  相似文献
