Hydromagnetic dynamos in rotating spherical shells are investigated using the control volume method. We present a validation of our code against the numerical dynamo benchmark. It is successfully benchmarked and we are able to conclude that the control volume method is another numerical method available for numerical modelling of self-consistent dynamos. In addition, the efficiency of our numerical code is tested. Computations provide conclusions that dynamo codes based on the spectral methods are much more efficient than our code based on the control volume method at the study of global fields on small and medium size parallel computers. However, our code could be much more efficient than codes based on the spectral methods on very large parallel computers, especially at the study of turbulence.  相似文献

The joint Taiwan–US mission FORMOSAT-3/ COSMIC (COSMIC) was launched on April 17, 2006. Each of the six satellites is equipped with two POD antennas. The orbits of the six satellites are determined from GPS data using zero-difference carrier-phase measurements by the reduced dynamic and kinematic methods. The effects of satellite center of mass (COM) variation, satellite attitude, GPS antenna phase center variation (PCV), and cable delay difference on the COSMIC orbit determination are studied. Nominal attitudes estimated from satellite state vectors deliver a better orbit accuracy when compared to observed attitude. Numerical tests show that the COSMIC COM must be precisely calibrated in order not to corrupt orbit determination. Based on the analyses of the 5 and 6-h orbit overlaps of two 30-h arcs, orbit accuracies from the reduced dynamic and kinematic solutions are nearly identical and are at the 2–3 cm level. The mean RMS difference between the orbits from this paper and those from UCAR (near real-time) and WHU (post-processed) is about 10 cm, which is largely due to different uses of GPS ephemerides, high-rate GPS clocks and force models. The kinematic orbits of COSMIC are expected to be used for recovery of temporal variations in the gravity field.  相似文献

We have developed a set of methods to detect meteor light traces captured by all-sky CCD cameras. Operating at small automatic observatories (stations), these cameras create a network spread over a large territory. Image data coming from these stations are merged in one central node. Since a vast amount of data is collected by the stations in a single night, robotic storage and analysis are essential to processing. The proposed methodology is adapted to data from a network of automatic stations equipped with digital fish-eye cameras and includes data capturing, preparation, pre-processing, analysis, and finally recognition of objects in time sequences. An interdisciplinary study of glacier-related hazards in the Petrov lake region (Ak-Shiirak Range, the Inner Tien-Shan, Kyrgyzstan) has been undertaken to identify potential dangers to the area. A cooperative effort from experts in the fields of hydrology, glaciology, geomorphology and geophysics has been employed in this study. For the hazard assessment, evolution of the Petrov glacier and lake was reconstructed using historical reports, aerial photographs and satellite images. Geomorphological mapping and geophysical soundings was applied to the lake territory and the moraine dam. This has identified potentially hazardous areas of the dam including subsurface drainage zones and cracks that could cause a sudden extremely high discharge. In the past three decades, the Petrov lake has doubled in size, while in recent years, its area has been increasing by more than 92,000 square metres per year. Although there is no evidence for an imminent outburst, the dramatic increase in the lake’s size emphasizes the importance of this study.  相似文献

Sediments from the Valjevo-Mionica Basin of Neogene age were investigated in this study using different geochemical methods. The results of the inorganic part analyses suggest that during genesis of the sediments, the contents of Na2O, B and As changed the most, which indicates that genesis of the investigated sediments was followed by climate changes and volcanic activity. The quantity of other macro- and microelements did not vary significantly. Investigations of the organic substance showed that it is native organic matter, which has been preserved to a significant extent, formed predominantly of algal precursor organisms, which provided good quality, deposited under reducing conditions and that it is at a low maturity level. As it has been established that genesis of the investigated sediments was mostly affected by an arid climate with more intensive salinity, the aim of this study, was also to identify the processes which were the most affected by the change in salinity, as well as biomarkers which are the most sensitive to this change. The results led to the conclusion that the salinity increase in the depositional environment had a primary effect on the preservation of the organic substance and the formation of the mineral searlesite. In addition, it was noticed that besides the Sq/nC26 ratio, the parameters nC17/nC27, CPI and Ph/nC18, are also significantly sensitive to salinity change in a depositional environment in case of immature organic substance deposited under reducing conditions.  相似文献

A complex assemblage of Nb-Ta-(Sn) oxide minerals occur in a relatively narrow (~1?2 m thick) extensively albitized, Hercynian granitic pegmatite dike intruding biotite granodiorites near Bratislava, SW Slovakia. The dike shows enrichment in beryl (locally Cs-rich) but absence of Li- and B-rich phases. Compositions and textural relationships indicate complex evolutions of Nb-Ta oxide phases with several generations presenting distinct textural and compositional features. The first generation of the Nb-Ta minerals from the quartz-microcline-muscovite zone show Ta,Fe-rich compositions with Ta# [Ta/(Ta + Nb)]?=?0.52?0.70 (Ct I columbite-tantalite), 0.88?0.90 (Tap I ferrotapiolite) and 0.73?0.86 (Fw I ferrowodginite); Mn# [Mn/(Mn + Fe)]?=?0.32?0.49 (Ct I), 0.06?0.10 (Tap I) and 0.33?0.41 (Fw I). The 2nd generation is represented by ferrocolumbite to ferrotantalite (Ct II) in saccharoidal albite zone, replacement zones of Ct II in Ct I, and irregular overgrowths of ferrotapiolite (Tap II) and ferrowodginite (Fw II) on Tap I grains. The minerals of the 2nd generation show decreasing of Ta# in comparison to the 1st group: 0.10?0.60 (Ct II), 0.85?0.87 (Tap II) and 0.73?0.77 (Fw II); Mn# attains 0.30?0.45 (Ct II), 0.06?0.09 (Tap II) and 0.26?0.37 (Fw II). The 3rd generation includes fissure fillings, overgrowths and replacement zones of manganocolumbite and manganotantalite (Ct III), ferrotapiolite (Tap III) and ferrowodginite (Fw III) on the older Nb-Ta phases (Ct I, Tap I, Fw I, Fw II), in the coarse-grained unit. The 3rd population displays distinct Mn# increasing (Ct III: 0.51?0.69, Tap III: 0.11?0.24, Fw III: 0.40?0.41), Ta# values reach 0.16?0.79 (Ct III), 0.88?0.92 (Tap III) and 0.80?0.81 (Fw III). The latest, 4th generation of the Nb-Ta phases represents irregular veinlets and patches of fluorcalciomicrolite, replacing Ct I, Tap I, Fw I, Ct II and Tap III. Decrease of Ta/(Ta + Nb) values in Ct II from the saccharoidal albite unit can be explained by crystallization from the albite-rich melt, which was significantly impoverished in Ta with respect to Nb, after crystallization of Ta-rich phases from the 1st generation (ferrotapiolite I, ferrowodginite I).  相似文献

Sulfoselenides [Ag2(S,Se)] and Se-bearing polybasite have been discovered at the Kongsberg silver district. The selenium-bearing minerals occur in two samples from the northern part of the district, forming either single or polyphase inclusions together with chalcopyrite within native silver. The Ag-sulfoselenides show large chemical variations, covering nearly the complete compositional range between acanthite (Ag2S) and naumannite (Ag2Se). For the data presented here, there is no local maximum at the composition Ag4SSe attributed to the distinct phase called aguilarite, suggesting that this composition can be considered as one of many possible along the monoclinic Ag2S–Ag2S0.4Se0.6 solid solution series rather than a specific mineral phase. We present a model explaining the variations in the Se-content of Ag2(S,Se) as a result of gradual de-sulfidization of the rock under oxidizing conditions. During this process, sulfur from the Ag2S-component of Ag2(S,Se) oxidized and dissolved in the fluid phase as SO42?, resulting in the formation of native silver. The activity ratio \({a_{{{\text{S}}^{2 - }}}}/{a_{{\text{S}}{{\text{e}}^{2 - }}}}\) of the system gradually decreased due to the removal of SO42?, which resulted in the stabilization of a sulfoselenide with higher selenium content. As a result of reaction progress, grains of Ag2(S,Se) became gradually enclosed in newly formed native silver, and therefore isolated from further reactions with the grain-boundary fluid. Grains isolated early during the process show low content of Se reflecting high \({a_{{{\text{S}}^{2 - }}}}/{a_{{\text{S}}{{\text{e}}^{2 - }}}}\) of the equilibrium fluid, while grains showing high Se reflect the composition of late low \({a_{{{\text{S}}^{2 - }}}}/{a_{{\text{S}}{{\text{e}}^{2 - }}}}\) fluids. Analyses of Se-bearing polybasite show that selenium is preferentially partitioned into Ag2(S,Se) compared to polybasite. The model presented here demonstrates how oxidation of sulfoselenides leads to fractionation of sulfur and selenium.  相似文献

The main aim of this paper was to investigate the removal efficiency of antimony (Sb) and arsenic (As) from circum-neutral mine drainage in the former Sb mine in Popro? (Slovakia) using a simple field treatment system based on the adsorption onto iron fillings. The treatment system consisted of two batch reactors with a volume of 1 m3: the first was used for settling of spontaneously precipitated ochreous sediments and the second, filled with reactive iron material, was designed to remove Sb and As from mine water. This passively operated treatment system contained 150 kg of low-cost iron fillings and was able to treat approximately 360 l of mine drainage per hour. The average removal efficiency of Sb and As reached 84 and 89% during a period of 2.3 years of the system operation, respectively. On average, dissolved Sb and As concentrations in mine drainage decreased from 175 to 24.3 µg/l and from 452 to 50.6 µg/l, respectively. Based on the electron microprobe (EMP) analyses of corrosion products developed on the surfaces of iron fillings, average Sb and As contents were 0.28 and 0.73 wt%, respectively. The chemical analyses of precipitated HFOs in the settling reactor showed that these ochreous precipitates contained up to 19.3 g/kg Sb and 65.8 g/kg As, indicating their natural role in the removal of the two metalloids from circum-neutral mine drainage. The results of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses confirmed the presence of ferrihydrite and goethite in ochreous sediments.  相似文献
