Synaeresis cracks are observed at different stratigraphic levels in shallow marine mixed siliciclastic-carbonate sediments of the Middle Jurassic rocks of the Patcham Island, Kachchh, Western India. Cracks are preserved as cast or grooves in micritic sandstone of the Kuar bet member of Kaladongar Formation and sandy allochem limestone of the Raimalro Limestone member of Goradongar Formation. It bear distinct morphology of simple, straight to gently curved, spindle-shaped, irregular, unbranched to branched at acute angle; interconnected curlicue forms of non-orthogonal pattern. The X-radiography shows sharp margin and tapering twigs which support to nullify the possible biogenic origin. These cracks are developed at sediment-water interface and sediment-sediment interface in aqueous conditions, where partial dewatering of sediments causes reduction of sediment volume and loss of plasticity. Formation of cracks are also post-depositional phenomenon operated during initial phase of diagenesis where induced stress is generated due to compaction of sediments and neomorphism/recrystallisation of the susceptible carbonate grains. 相似文献

The 14 April 2012 earthquake of Mw 4.8 is the best monitored event in the Koyna region, a globally significant site of reservoir triggered seismicity in western India. Hence, investigation of this event assumes great importance, also considering its epicentral location close to that of the 1967 Koyna earthquake of M 6.3, the world’s largest reservoir triggered earthquake. Inversion of P-wave amplitude data along with the first motion polarities at 30 digital seismic stations provides a well-constrained strike-slip type focal mechanism solution, similar to that of the 1967 earthquake. The mechanism is further confirmed by moment tensor inversion of 3-component waveform data recorded at the three nearest broadband stations. The depth distribution of the aftershocks clearly delineates a NNE-SSW trending fault plane dipping about 78° to the WNW and coinciding with the trend of the Donachiwada fault, as well as the left-lateral fault plane of the focal mechanism solution obtained. The precise location, focal mechanism and the seismicity distribution from our dense network indicate that the activity in the Koyna region is mainly controlled by the NNE-SSW trending Donachiwada (D) fault zone rather than the Koyna River Fault Zone (KRFZ) on the west as suggested previously. 相似文献

The Middle Jurassic rocks of the Kaladongar Formation well exposed in the Kaladongar Hill range of the Patcham Island and Kuar Bet of the Northern Kachchh comprises of ∼450 m thick sequence of mixed siliciclasticcarbonate sediments intercalated with shales. These Mixed siliciclastic-carbonate sediments show wide variation in textural and mineralogical composition and represent genetically related six rock types: micritic sandstone, allochemic sandstone, sandy allochemic limestone, micrtic mudrock, sandy micrite and muddy micrite; which are highly bioturbated and show behaviourally diverse groups of trace fossils. Total 34 ichnogenera are identified, which includes, Arenicolites, Asterosoma, Beaconites, Bergaueria, Chondrites, Cochlichnus, Dactylophycus, Daedalus, Didymaulichnus, Diplocraterion, Gordia, Gyrochorte, Gyrolithes, Ichnocumulus, Laevicyclus, Lockeia, Margaritichnus, Monocraterion, Nereites, Ophiomorpha, Palaeophycus, Phoebichnus, Phycodes, Pilichnus, Planolites, Plug Shaped Form, Protovirgularia, Rhizocorallium, Scolicia, Skolithos, Taenidium, Teichichnus, Thalassinoides and Walcottia. These trace fossils are classified into six morphological groups namely, circular and elliptical structures; simple structures; branched structures; rosette structures; spreiten structures; and winding and meandering structures. These trace fossils are further group into eight assemblages which occurred together into mixed siliciclastic-carbonate sediments, include, Asterosoma assemblage, Gyrochorte assemblage, Rhizocorallium assemblage, Thalassinoides assemblage, Planolites-Palaeophycus assemblage, Phycodes assemblage, Ophiomorpha assemblage and Skolithos assemblage. The recurring pattern of these assemblages through the sequence displays the development of Skolithos and Cruziana ichnofacies and at places the mixed Skolithos-Cruziana ichnofacies which suggest a low wave and current energy conditions with intervening period of high wave and current energy conditions and an intermediate period of stressful environments, respectively. Sedimentological and ichnological data suggest that the deposition of the mixed siliciclastic-carbonate sediments of the Kaladongar Formation took place in the foreshore to offshore environment under fluctuating wave and current energy condition. 相似文献

Hydrocarbon exploration interests have renewed the need for developing new sub basalt imaging techniques. One of the most important problems encountered today is seismic imaging below basalt. In recent years, this problem appears to have been overcome partly by using long offset seismic data. However near offset data are yet to be fully utilised due to the complex waveform caused by the surface as well as internal heterogeneity of the basalts. The near normal incidence data, which influence the sub-basalt imaging, are highly useful to understand the internal structure within a basalt layer. The use of converted waves for such targets has been proposed as an alternative in a rather homogeneous basalt layer. With a few synthetic modelling exercises here we highlight the practical difficulties in dealing with more realistic and heterogeneous basalt flow. Full waveform seismograms are computed to understand the effects of intra-trappean sediments on the seismic data. A case study from the Deccan Traps of India is presented in this paper. First, we discuss the effects of intercalated sediments on the overall seismic image. Later, the sonic log data from the field are used to compute the full wave-field response using the reflectivity method and compared with the field data. The feasibility of using mode converted waves (P to S and vice-versa at the top and bottom basalt interfaces) for sub-basalt imaging in Kutch region is discussed through a series of velocity-depth profiles. By comparing with the field data we demonstrate that the effects of multiple thin layering within the basalt can strongly deteriorate the image we seek to interpret and exploit. 相似文献

In hill areas, landslides are frequent and hazardous. In developing hill areas, many multistoreyed r.c.c. farmed buildings are constructed on hill slope. The building loads are transferred to the hill slope terrain at the foundation level, which may cause hill slope failure. Therefore the stability of hill slope with building loads needs to be checked. In this paper, a procedure has been developed to find the factor of safety against sliding failure of slope considering building loads transferred to the slope. Earthquake forces can also be considered in the analysis. Different types of soils in the slope can be considered. A computer program has been developed based on the formulation presented in the paper and is validated by solving few examples. Stability of slope with differently configured buildings have been studied. Provisions to be made for stepped foundations on hill slopes has been highlighted here. 相似文献

Avalanche activities in the Indian Himalaya cause the majority of fatalities and responsible for heavy damage to the property. Avalanche susceptibility maps assist decision-makers and planners to execute suitable measures to reduce the avalanche risk. In the present study, a probabilistic data-driven geospatial fuzzy–frequency ratio (fuzzy–FR) model is proposed and developed for avalanche susceptibility mapping, especially for the large undocumented region. The fuzzy–FR model for avalanche susceptibility mapping is initially developed and applied for Lahaul-Spiti region. The fuzzy–FR model utilized the six avalanche occurrence factors (i.e. slope, aspect, curvature, elevation, terrain roughness and vegetation cover) and one referent avalanche inventory map to generate the avalanche susceptibility map. Amongst 292 documented avalanche locations from the avalanche inventory map, 233 (80%) were used for training the model and remaining 59 (20%) were used for validation of the map. The avalanche susceptibility map is validated by calculating the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC-AUC) technique. For validation of the results using ROC-AUC technique, the success rate and prediction rate were calculated. The values of success rate and prediction rate were 94.07% and 91.76%, respectively. The validation of results using ROC-AUC indicated the fuzzy–FR model is appropriate for avalanche susceptibility mapping. 相似文献
