A numerical model consisting of simplified equations was developed to simulate nitrate concentrations in groundwater in a reservoir area of a subsurface dam in a Quaternary limestone region. The model was composed of a water balance sub-model and a nitrogen balance sub-model; the water balance sub-model was built from tank models which can express the quick dilution near caves and the effect of dam construction; and the nitrogen balance sub-model was made to represent changes in nitrogen forms and movement of nitrogen in the soil and aquifer zones. The model was calibrated and verified by observed data before and after the dam construction and then applied to a predictive simulation under a simple assumption that rainfall descends gradually. The model seemed applicable to long-term prediction of changes in NO3-N in the reservoir area. 相似文献

We present Hα observations from ARIES (Nainital) of a compact and impulsive solar flare that occurred on March 10, 2001 and
which was associated with a CME. We have also analyzed HXT, SXT/Yohkoh observations as well as radio observations from the Nobeyama Radio Observatory to derive the energetics and dynamics of this
impulsive flare. We coalign the Hα, SXR, HXR, MW, and magnetogram images within the instrumental spatial-resolution limit.
We detect a single HXR source in this flare, which is found spatially associated with one of the Hα bright kernels. The unusual
feature of HXR and Hα sources, observed for the first time, is the rotation during the impulsive phase in a clockwise direction.
We propose that the rotation may be due to asymmetric progress of the magnetic reconnection site or may be due to the change
of the peak point of the electric field. In MW emission we found two sources. The main source is at the main flare site and
another is in the southwest direction. It appears that the remote source is formed by the impact of accelerated energetic
electrons from the main flare site. From the spatial correlation of multiwavelength images of the different sources, we conclude

The results succeed in explaining the formation of a ring and a disk around the accreting component. We report the detection of the acetylene derivative propynal (HC triple bond CCHO) in the cold cloud TMC-1, with an abundance that is very close to that for the related species tricarbon monoxide (C3O). We present a new method of estimating the energy of microwave-emitting electrons from the observed rate of increase of the microwave flux relative to the hard X-ray flux measured at various energies during the rising phase of solar flares. A total of 22 flares observed simultaneously in hard X-rays (20–400 keV) and in microwaves (17 GHz) were analyzed in this way and the results are as follows:
- The observed energy of X-rays which vary in proportion to the 17 GHz emission concentrates mostly below 100 keV with a median energy of 70 keV. Since the mean energy of electrons emitting 70 keV X-rays is ?130 keV or ?180 keV, depending on the assumed hard X-ray emission model (thin-target and thick-target, respectively), this photon energy strongly suggests that the 17 GHz emission comes mostly from electrons with an energy of less than a few hundred keV.
- Correspondingly, the magnetic field strength in the microwave source is calculated to be 500–1000 G for the thick-target case and 1000–2000 G for the thin-target case. Finally, judging from the values of the source parameters required for the observed microwave fluxes, we conclude that the thick-target model in which precipitating electrons give rise to both X-rays and microwaves is consistent with the observations for at least 16 out of 22 flares examined.

Frost heavings have been observed on the soils in waterproof basins (four basins denoted by A, B, C and D) at the Tomakomai field site, Hokkaido, Japan. Basins A, B and C were filled with the same silty soil, and Basin D with four layers, namely, pebbles (0–5 cm below the surface), a mixture of pebbles and silty soil (5–20 cm), silty soil (20–60 cm) and sand (60–160 cm). In the winter of 1976–1977 water levels in the basins were set at the levels of the ground surface in A, 40 cm below the surface in B, the bottom in C and 30 cm below the surface in D. Basin C had no free groundwater. The highest surface heave was 32 cm in A, 26 cm in B, 19 cm in C and 14 cm in D. A water supply from the free groundwater toward the freezing front extended over 220 cm through the silty soil, but was limited to 63 cm through the sand. The migration speeds of the soil water supplied from the unfrozen part were calculated for A, B and C from the measurements of their volumetric water-content profiles. 相似文献

The change of source characteristics during the transition from the impulsive phase to the post-burst phase is investigated for cm bursts on a statistical basis. The results are the following: (1) The sudden decrease of the circular polarization degree is found almost invariably at the transition; typically from 20–30% down to a few percent. (2) Some bursts show remarkable source expansions in the post-burst phase. There are no cases in which impulsive bursts have larger source size than the associated post-burst increases. (3) Type III bursts which are indicative of non-thermal phenomena are associated with the impulsive phase but not with the post-burst phase. Implications of these observed results are discussed. 相似文献

Seismic experiments were conducted on Showa-Shinzan, a parasitic lava dome of volcano Usu, Hokkaido, which was formed during 1943–1945 activity. Since we found that firework shots fired on the ground can effectively produce seismic waves, we placed many seismometers on and around the dome during the summer festivals in 1984 and 1985. The internal structure had been previously studied using a prospecting technique employing dynamite blasts in 1954. The measured interval velocity across the dome in 1984 ranges 1.8–2.2 km/s drastically low compared to the results (3.0–4.0 km/s) in 1954; in addition, the velocity is 0.3–0.5 km/s higher than that in the surrounding area. The variation of the observed first arrival amplitudes can be explained by geometrical spreading in the high velocity lava dome. These observations show a marked change in the internal physical state of the dome corresponding to a drop in the measured highest temperature at fumaroles on the dome from 800°C in 1947 to 310°C in 1986. 相似文献
