In this paper we show that explicit treatment of risks and uncertainties in agricultural production planning may considerably alter strategies for achieving robust outcomes with regard to sustainable agricultural developments. We discuss production planning models under uncertainties and risks that may assist in planning location-specific production expansion within environmental and health risk indicators and constraints. The proposed approaches are illustrated with the example of spatially explicit livestock production allocation in China to 2030.  相似文献

The maintenance of waterways generates large amounts of dredged sediments, which are deposited on adjacent land surfaces. These sediments are often rich in metal contaminants and present a risk to the local environment. Understanding how the metals are immobilized at the molecular level is critical for formulating effective metal containment strategies such as phytoremediation. In the present work, the mineralogical transformations of Zn-containing phases induced by two graminaceous plants (Agrostis tenuis and Festuca rubra) in a contaminated sediment ([Zn] = 4700 mg kg−1, [P2O5] = 7000 mg kg−1, pH = 7.8), untreated or amended with hydroxylapatite (AP) or Thomas basic slag (TS), were investigated after two yr of pot experiment by scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive spectrometry (SEM-EDS), synchrotron-based X-ray microfluorescence (μ-SXRF), and powder and laterally resolved extended X-ray absorption fine structure (μ-EXAFS) spectroscopy. The number and nature of Zn species were evaluated by principal component (PCA) and least-squares fitting (LSF) analysis of the entire set of μ-EXAFS spectra, which included up to 32 individual spectra from regions of interest varying in chemical composition. Seven Zn species were identified at the micrometer scale: sphalerite, gahnite, franklinite, Zn-containing ferrihydrite and phosphate, (Zn-Al)-hydrotalcite, and Zn-substituted kerolite-like trioctahedral phyllosilicate. Bulk fractions of each species were quantified by LSF of the powder EXAFS spectra to linear combinations of the identified Zn species spectra.In the untreated and unvegetated sediment, Zn was distributed as ∼50% (mole ratio of total Zn) sphalerite, ∼40% Zn-ferrihydrite, and ∼10 to 20% (Zn-Al)-hydrotalcite plus Zn-phyllosilicate. In unvegetated but amended sediments (AP and TS), ZnS and Zn-ferrihydrite each decreased by 10 to 20% and were replaced by Zn-phosphate (∼30∼40%). In the presence of plants, ZnS was almost completely dissolved, and the released Zn bound to phosphate (∼40-60%) and to Zn phyllosilicate plus (Zn,Al)-hydrotalcite (∼20-40%). Neither the plant species nor the coaddition of mineral amendment affected the Zn speciation in the vegetated sediment. The sediment pore waters were supersaturated with respect to Zn-containing trioctahedral phyllosilicate, near saturation with respect to Zn-phosphate, and strongly undersaturated with respect to (Zn,Al)-hydrotalcite. Therefore, the formation of (Zn,Al)-hydrotalcite in slightly alkaline conditions ought to result from heterogeneous precipitation on mineral surface.  相似文献

This study explores the ocean–atmosphere interaction in the formation and dynamics of the South Atlantic Convergence Zone (SACZ), through the analysis of the heat sources estimated through the outgoing longwave radiation. The results obtained with this study show that the coupled variability between SACZ and the South Atlantic Ocean indicates that in northern positioned SACZ cases (over Southeastern Brazil), westerly anomalies are verified in the low level continental tropical circulation, consistent with the active phase of the South America Monsoon System (SAMS). In these cases, cold anomalies in the subtropical Atlantic Ocean cause an increase in the continent–ocean temperature gradient, favoring an easterly flow in this region, and blocking the SACZ at a northerly position. Easterly anomalies in the tropical continent were verified in the low level circulation in southern positioned cases (over Southern Brazil), consistent with the SAMS break phase. The SST anomaly patterns indicate cold anomalies in the tropics and warm anomalies in the subtropics, which do not favor the development of an easterly flow at low levels over the western tropical Atlantic. In these cases, two situations may occur: the strengthening of the Low Level Jet (LLJ), which prevails in the eastern subtropical South America and convergence with the South Atlantic Subtropical High at its southern position; or the atmospheric unstable conditions caused by ocean warm SST anomalies (in this case the LLJ may be weaker than its climatological intensity).  相似文献

Two remote tsunamis were recorded on the Pacific coast of Russia: a relatively weak Samoan tsunami of September 29, 2009 and a much stronger Chilean tsunami of February 28, 2010. In the area of the South Kuril Islands, records were obtained using autonomous bottom pressure gauges of the Institute of Marine Geology and Geophysics (IMGG). Additionally, for the oceanic coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula, Paramushir, and Bering Islands we used data transmitted from coastal tide gauges of the Russian Tsunami Warning Service (TWS). The maximum trough-to-crest heights of the Samoan tsunami were about 30–40 cm, and were recorded about 3 h after the first tsunami arrival. The maximum Chilean tsunami trough-to-crest wave heights were 218 cm at Severo-Kurilsk, 187 cm at Tserkovnaya Bay (Shikotan Island), and 140 cm at Khodutka Bay (Kamchatka Peninsula). The time between first and maximum waves reached 4 h. Strong sea level oscillations for both events range for a long time: about 15–17 h. The Samoan tsunami induced high-frequency oscillations; a considerable increase in spectral energy in the tsunami spectrum was observed at periods of 4–20 min. In contrast, the Chilean tsunami induced low-frequency oscillations; the dominant periods were 30–80 min. A probable reason for these differences is the different extensions of the source areas (the Chilean source was much larger than the Samoan source) and the different energy radiation directions from the sources. Local topography resonant effects were the main reason of well-expressed peaks in power spectra in different areas: with a period of 10 min (Khodutka Bay), 19–20 min (Malokurilskaya and Tserkovnaya bays), 29 min (Krabovaya Inlet), and 43 min (Avachinskaya Guba and Nikolskoe).  相似文献

Estimation of the long-term groundwater recharge based on the chloride mass balance method is easy for practical applications. This method is reliable only if the atmospheric chloride deposition is known. The direct measuring of this deposition is difficult and time consuming. In this study, the chloride deposition at the catchment scale is assessed based on the export of chloride with river waters (including baseflow), as the net groundwater recharge in the studied catchments is usually low, and its contribution to the exports of salts is insignificant. For the purpose of this study, a 25-year-long time series of discharge and chloride content (from 1951 to 1975) is processed, as the quality of river waters for this period is considered natural and unaffected by human activity in the studied catchments. The obtained value of the atmospheric chloride deposition for North Bulgaria is in the range of 2.5–2.8 g/m2/a based on representative stations. This is the first estimate of the atmospheric chloride deposition in the country, which may be used for assessment of the long-term groundwater recharge in North Bulgaria.  相似文献
