Approximation of the hydrostatics equation is considered using a state equation in the form of a quadratic polynomial of temperature and salinity. It is shown that in this case the traditional approximation fails to obey the law of energy conservation in the numerical model. Two prognostic experiments taking into account real atmospheric forcing for 2006 and 2011 were carried out based on the eddy-resolving numerical model with a horizontal resolution of 1.6 km for the Black Sea. The main dynamic features such as the Rim Current, the Sevastopol, and Batumi anticyclones are reproduced in both experiments. The model results are confirmed via observation data. We accomplished the analysis of simulated circulation and energetics. The results demonstrate that both the vertical viscosity and vertical diffusion along with the energy inflow from the wind have been the main contributors to the annual and seasonal budgets of kinetic and potential energies of the Black Sea circulation. It is shown that two regimes of the Black Sea general circulation are implemented depending on a magnitude of wind contribution to the kinetic energy in winter. Intensive mesoscale eddy formation was observed along the Anatolian, Caucasian, and Crimean coasts. The analysis of the Black Sea circulation and eddy energetics allowed us to conclude that the generation and development of the mesoscale coastal eddies is associated with the barotropic instability in case of intensive coastal currents and is associated with both the barotropic and baroclinic instability in case of weak coastal currents.  相似文献

A numerical experiment with assimilation of hydrological observational data from a survey in October 2007 on the northwestern shelf of the Black Sea was carried out using the hydrodynamic model with nonlinear equations of motion, equations of heat and salt advection, and data assimilation. The results of this calculation are compared with thermohydrodynamic fields obtained without taking into account temperature and salinity measurements. It is shown that allowance for the observation data leads to qualitative and quantitative differences in the structure of the hydrophysical fields. Mesoscale eddies and intense jet streams that agree with satellite observations were found in the field of currents and were investigated. These eddies are not resolved in low-resolution field experiments.  相似文献

We performed a long-term prognostic experiment aimed at the investigation of the process of formation of the hydrodynamic structure of the Sea-of-Marmara waters with regard for the influence of Bosporus and Dardanelles. It is shown that the mutual adaptation of hydrophysical fields and their adjustment to the physical and geographical conditions of the sea proceed as a result of the action of rapid (tens of days) and slow (several tens of years) mechanisms of adaptation. An S-like jet current directed from Bosporus to Dardanelles was formed. Two stable anticyclonic formations are well visible in the central part of the sea. In deeper layer, an abyssal jet current was formed as a result of penetration of heavy Mediterranean waters. The established specific features of the circulation of waters in the Sea of Marmara are confirmed by the data of observations. An energetically-balanced model has been used to perform an eddy-resolving experiment on the calculation of the baroclinic circulation in the Black Sea. As the initial and boundary conditions, historical data on the density and tangential wind stress for the summer season have been used. Following the integration of a set of model equations, an array of anticyclonic eddies formed on days 50–60 on the margins of the Black Sea rim current. Off the Caucasus, Crimean, and Bulgarian coast, anticyclonic eddies are shown to be quasi-stationary. The north-western Black Sea and Anatolia coastal zone are areas of Black Sea rim current instability, where synoptic eddies — both cyclonic and anticyclonic — are generated.Translated by Vladimir A. We propose an algorithm of adaptive statistics of prognostic errors aimed at the assimilation of the climatic temperature and salinity fields in a model of dynamics of the sea. The algorithm is used for the numerical solution of the proposed differential equations for the dispersions of prognostic errors of temperature and salinity. The sources in the equations of advective diffusion of heat and salt depend on the four-dimensional dispersions of prognostic errors and one-dimensional (along the vertical coordinate) dispersions of measurement errors. The dispersions of prognostic errors are corrected at the times of assimilation of the data. We perform the reconstruction and analysis of the climatic fields of currents in the Black Sea. It is shown that the structure of the fields of dispersions in the upper mixed layer is determined by the vertical diffusion. Below this layer, the distribution of dispersions depends on the vertical advection. The energy characteristics of circulation in the Black Sea have been numerically analyzed for 2006. The annually and seasonally averaged integral components of the budget of both kinetic and potential energies are considered. It is shown that, over the period under study, wind forcing, buoyancy force, and friction are the main factors determining variations in the mechanical energy of the Black Sea. During the cold months, wind forcing maximally contributes to the kinetic energy. In spring, the contribution made by buoyancy force is dominant. The values of buoyancy force are maximum within the upper quasi-homogeneous layer during the warm season and on horizons, where the waters of the cold intermediate layer are concentrated, during the fall–winter season.  相似文献
