This paper discusses formation of pathological cases of crater morphology due to interaction of craters with molten lavas. Terrestrial observations of such a process are discussed. In lunar maria, a number of small impact craters (D < 10 km) may have been covered by thin layers of fluid lavas, or formed in molten lava. Some specific lunar examples are discussed, including unusual shallow rings resembling experimental craters deformed by isostatic filling.Paper dedicated to Professor Harold C. During a ship voyage from Tasmania to Antarctica in summer 2000/01, radiative and meteorological measurements were continuously
made, from which the surface energy budget was calculated. Sea conditions throughout the voyage ranged from open water to
broken pack and finally to snow-covered unbroken sea ice in McMurdo Sound. The global radiation increased on average during
the trip (to higher latitudes) as we travelled poleward. The net radiation, which was positive (toward the surface) on average,
decreased however, mostly due to the increase in surface albedo. For open water, most of the net radiation is used for evapouration
(61%), while for broken sea-ice conditions, nearly all energy is used for melting of the sea ice or heating of the ocean (96%).
For unbroken snow-covered sea ice, the net radiation lies close to zero, due to the high surface albedo, which reached a mean
value of 0.81. The sensible heat flux becomes the largest heat source and nearly all the energy is used for warming of the
surface. Finally, a Radarsat image, on which the ship track was visible, was used to compare the ship observations with satellite

In the absence of a sufficiently dense network of climate stations covering all topographic regions of the Indus River basin and delivering high quality data over the last 30 years or more, daily precipitation data were obtained from the National Centers for Environmental Prediction-Department of the Enviornment (NCEP-DOE) Reanalysis 2 dataset for the period 1979 to 2011. The daily precipitation data were transformed into time series of frequency of extreme precipitation events of 1-day and 10-day durations defined in terms of 90th and 99th percentile threshold exceedances. The non-parametric Mann-Kendall trend test was applied to determine whether statistically significant changes in precipitation extremes occurred over time, in due consideration of autocorrelation in the data.
Extreme precipitation showed a high spatial variability, with the highest daily and 10-day precipitation totals, and thus highest 90th and 99th percentiles, in the southeastern lowlands at the foot of the Himalayas and the lowest in the Karakorum. Significantly decreasing trends in extreme precipitation were observed in the western part of the Indus River basin; significantly increasing trends were mainly detected in the very high mountainous regions in the east (Transhimalaya and Himalayas) and in the north (Hindu Kush and Karakorum) of the Indus basin. High precipitation rates are not common in the arid climate of these high mountainous regions. Future flood management plans need to consider the increasing trends in extreme precipitation events in these areas. 相似文献
Craters on the Earth, Mars, and the Moon show a spectrum of morphologies with diameter increasing from simple, bowl-shaped craters through craters with increasingly complex central peaks, to craters with “peak rings” and basins with multiple concentric scarps. In each category there is a range of diameters, centered around a characteristic diameter, Dc. It is found that Dc decreases as the size of the planet increases. Several possible explanations are considered. It is suggested that the effect results from a gravity scaling law derived here and having approximately from the Dc∂ 1/g1.25, where g is the surface gravity. All geological structures in which gravity is the dominant parameter affecting the morphology should follow such a law. 相似文献
The Capané ophiolite is a fragment of oceanic lithosphere obducted into the Ediacaran Porongos fold and thrust belt, southern Brasiliano Orogen. A studied rodingite blackwall contained in serpentinite has metasomatic zircon that displays multiple U–Pb ages from Tonian to Cryogenian (793 ± 0.9, 757 ± 2.1, 715 ± 2.2 Ma). The ages are interpreted as corresponding to multiple alteration events in the mantle. Multiple U–Pb–Hf isotopes and trace element analyses on the same crystals by laser ablation were controlled by backscatered electron images. Hf isotopes indicate zircon origin from a depleted mantle (εHf = +15 to +10.7), and trace elements point to an oceanic origin. The Capané ophiolite thus marks the evolution of the Adamastor ocean during the Tonian and Cryogenian, a significant result for the reconstruction of Rodinia and Gondwana supercontinents. 相似文献
For water management purposes, information about an entire aquifer system is generally more important than information about
a specific spring. Since a karstic aquifer system might drain to several outlets, conclusions derived from a single spring
can be misleading for characterization and modeling. In this study we apply a conceptual model to an Alpine dolomite karst
system in Austria. The particular challenge was that several small springs with strongly varying hydrological behavior and
diffuse flow into surrounding streams drain this system. Instead of applying the model to a single spring, it was calibrated
simultaneously to several observations within the system aiming to identify the karst system’s intrinsic hydrodynamic parameters.
Parameter identification is supported by modeling the transport of water isotopes (δ18O). The parameters were transferred to the whole system with a simple upscaling procedure and a sensitivity analysis was performed
to unfold influence of isotopic information on parameter sensitivity and simulation uncertainty. The results show that it
is possible to identify system intrinsic parameters. But the sensitivity analysis revealed that some are hardly identifiable.
Only by considering uncertainty reasonable predictions can be provided for the whole system. Including isotopic information
increases the sensitivity of some intrinsic parameters, but it goes along with a sensitivity decrease for others. However,
a possible reduction of prediction uncertainty by isotopic information is compensated by deficiencies in the transport modeling

The concept of drag partitioning to parameterise the surface roughness of sea ice is validated using topography data of regions with high sea ice concentrations. The parameterised drag is compared to measurements obtained by aircraft and ship. The form drag can well be expressed as a function of mean ridge heights and spacings averaged over flight legs of 12 km, if an improved approximation for the coefficient of resistance of a single ridge is used. We find a good agreement between the parameterised and observed drag coefficients. The highest sea ice roughness was encountered close to coastal regions and the lowest in the central Arctic. 相似文献
