The high activity level of Hybrid Events (HE) detected beneath the Cayambe volcano since 1989 has been more thoroughly investigated with data from a temporary array. The unusual HE spectral content allows separating a high-frequency signal riding on a low-frequency one, with a probable single source. HEs are interpreted as high frequency VT events, produced by the interaction between magmatic heat and an underground water system fed by thaw water from the summital glacier, which trigger simultaneous low-frequency fluid resonance in the highly fractured adjacent medium. In Savoy, the Grands-Moulins recent fault scarps, previously interpreted as seismic fault ruptures, are in fact part of a major Sackung (deep seated gravitational spreading) of the French Alps (9 km long). We mapped more than 60 sackung scarps, some of them reaching 1330 m long and 30 m high. These antislope scarps stop the active screes and offset relict Dryassic rock glaciers by 16 m. We present geomorphologic observations attesting for their gravitational origin. This Sackung is primarily due to glacial debuttressing, while seismic shaking could be a triggering mechanism. Proximity is a fundamental concept in any comprehensive ontology of space ( Worboys 2001 ). The provision of a context‐contingent translation mechanism between linguistic proximity measures (e.g. “near”, “far”) and metric distance measures is an important topic in current GIS research. After a discussion of context factors that mediate the relationship between linguistic and metric distance measures, we present a statistical approach, Ordered Logit Regression, to the context‐contingent proximity modeling. The approach can predict proximity given the corresponding metric distance and context variables. An empirical case study with human subjects is carried out using this statistical approach. Interpretation and predictive accuracy of the empirical case study are discussed. 相似文献

A two-dimensional global climate model is used to assessthe climatic changes associated with the new IPCC SRES emissions scenarios and to determine which kind of changes in total solar irradiance and volcanic perturbations could mask the projected anthropogenic global warming associated to the SRES scenarios. Our results suggest that only extremely unlikely changes in total solar irradiance and/or volcanic eruptions would be able to overcome the simulated anthropogenic global warming over the century. Nevertheless, in the critical interval of the next two decades the externally-driven natural climate variability might possibly confuse the debate about temperature trends and impede detection of the anthropogenic climate change signal. 相似文献

The solubility of the albite-paragonite-quartz mineral assemblage was measured as a function of NaCl and fluorine concentration at 400°C, 500 bars and at 450°C, 500 and 1000 bars. Decreasing Al concentrations with increasing NaCl molality in F-free fluids of low salinity (mNaCl < 0.01) demonstrates that Al(OH)4− dominates Al speciation and is formed according to the reaction 0.5 NaAl3Si3O12H2(cr)+2 H2O = 0.5 NaAlSi3O8(cr)+Al(OH)4−+H+. Log K results for this reaction are −11.28 ± 0.10 and −10.59 ± 0.10 at 400°C, 500 bars and 450°C, 1000 bars, respectively. Upon further salinity increase, Al concentration becomes constant (at 400°C, 500 bars) or even rises (at 450°C, 1000 bars). The observed Al behavior can be explained by the formation of NaAl(OH)40(aq) or NaAl(OH)3Cl(aq)0. The calculated constant for the reaction Al(OH)4−+Na+=NaAl(OH)40(aq) expressed in log units is equal to 2.46 and 2.04 at 400°C, 500 bars and 450°C, 1000 bars, respectively. These values are in good agreement with the predictions given in Diakonov et al. (1996). Addition of fluoride at m(NaCl) = const = 0.5 caused a sharp increase in Al concentration in equilibrium with the albite-paragonite-quartz mineral assemblage. As fluid pH was also constant, this solubility increase indicates strong aluminum-fluoride complexation with the formation of NaAl(OH)3F(aq)0 and NaAl(OH)2F20(aq), according to 0.5 NaAl3Si3O12H2(cr)+Na++HF(aq)0+H2O = 0.5 NaAlSi3O8(cr)+ NaAl(OH)3F(aq)0+H+, log K = −5.17 and −5.23 at 400°C and 450°C, 500 bars, respectively, and 0.5 NaAl3Si3O12H2(cr)+Na++2 HF(aq)0 = 0.5 NaAlSi3O8(cr)+NaAl(OH)2F20(aq)+H+, log K = −2.19 and −1.64 at the same P-T conditions. It was found that temperature increase and pressure decrease promote the formation of Na-Al-OH-F species. Stability of NaAl(OH)2F20(aq) in low-density fluids also increases relative to NaAl(OH)3F(aq)0. These complexes, together with Al(OH)2F(aq)0 and AlOHF20(aq), whose stability constants were calculated from the corundum solubility measured by Soboleva and Zaraisky (1990) and Zaraisky (1994), are likely to dominate Al speciation in metamorphic fluids containing several ppm of fluorine. 相似文献

The degradation of the Jobourg fault-scarp occurred by cryoclastic processes in a periglacial environment during a part of Quaternary time. Eighty-two core samples were collected from the Spring Valley #1 well which penetrates the Upper Carboniferous strata in the Late Devonian–Early Permian Maritimes Basin. The strata consist of alternating sandstones and mudstones deposited in a continental environment. The objective of this study is to characterize the relationship of sandstone porosity with depth, and to investigate the diagenetic processes related to the porosity evolution. Porosity values estimated from point counting range from 0% to 27.8%, but are mostly between 5% and 20%. Except samples that are significantly cemented by calcite, porosity values clearly decrease with depth. Two phases of calcite cement were distinguished based on Cathodoluminescence, with the early phase being largely dissolved and preserved as minor relicts in the later phase. Feldspar dissolution was extensive and contributed significantly to the development of secondary porosity. Quartz cementation was widespread and increased with depth. Fluid inclusions recorded in calcite and quartz cements indicate that interstitial fluids in the upper part of the stratigraphic column were dominated by waters with salinity lower than that of seawater, the middle part was first dominated by low-salinity waters, then invaded by brines, and the lower part was dominated by brines. Homogenization temperatures of fluid inclusions generally increase with depth and suggest a paleogeothermal gradient of 25 °C/km, which is broadly consistent with that indicated by vitrinite reflectance data. An erosion of 1.1–2.4 (mean 1.75) km of strata is inferred to have taken place above the stratigraphic column. δ18O values of calcite cements (mainly from the late phase) decrease with depth, implying increasing temperatures of formation, as also suggested by fluid-inclusion data. δ13C values of calcite cements range from −13.4‰ to −5.7‰, suggesting that organic matter was an important carbon source for calcite cements. A comparison of the porosity data with a theoretical compaction curve indicates that the upper and middle parts of the stratigraphic column show higher-than-normal porosity values, which are related to significant calcite and feldspar dissolution. Meteoric incursion and carboxylic acids generated from organic maturation were probably responsible for the abundant dissolution events. 相似文献

We present new data and interpretations on the Neogene tectonics of the Shan scarp area (central Myanmar) and its relationship with the India–Indochina oblique convergence. We describe ductile and brittle fabrics associated with the major features in this area, the Mogok Metamorphic Belt (MMB), the Shan scarp and the Sagaing fault. From these data we identify a succession of two tectonic regimes. First, a dominant NNW–SSE-trending extension, marked by ductile stretching that characterizes the MMB, and associated N70E brittle normal faults. Later, from Middle or Upper Miocene to the Present, these structures were cross-cut by brittle right-lateral faults, among which the most important are the N20W transpressive Shan scarp fault zone and the N–S Sagaing fault. To explain this transition from a dominant transtensive to a transpressive stress regime, that occurred during Miocene, we place our data within a larger geodynamic context. We suggest that, like the intraplate deformation in the Indian Ocean, the end of spreading in the South China sea, the opening of the Andaman basin or the end of subduction within the Indo-Burma range, the change in the tectonic regime in central Myanmar could be in response to a major Miocene regional plate kinematic reorganization. 相似文献
