The northwest region of Bangladesh is divided into four geomorphological units which show different flood features. The region has suffered severe flood damage both in 1987 and 1988. After these floods Bangladesh Action Plan for Flood Control was established by the World Bank. In the northwest region the plan proposed two major projects, namely, an interceptor drain and a diversion channel. A Polder Project is also going on in this region. However these major projects are mainly on structural methods and require much cost for long embankments. The author suggests smaller but reasonable projects combining structural and non-structural methods in the region.  相似文献

Trains of large-scale ripple marks (megaripples and sand waves) were found on the Amakusa and East China Sea shelves bordering the northern Okinawa Trough. Side-scan sonar surveys were carried out in 1974 and 1976 to investigate sea-floor features lying along a proposed submarine cable line. Megaripples were found on the outer margin of the Amakusa shelf between depths of 140 and 200 m. The megaripples were especially well developed at a depth of 167 m. They were typically straight-transverse crested with asymmetrical profiles, and measured 7 to 15 m in wavelength and 0.4 to 1.4 m in waveheight. Formation of the megaripples on the Amakusa shelf is probably controlled by relatively complex oceanographic conditions. A secondary circulation associated with the Gotô-nada clock-wise Current may be responsible for formation of the ripple marks. Local vorticities generated in the coastal boundary layer as a result of curvature of the Gotô-nada Current are known to cause the complex flow pattern at the Gotô and Amakusa shelf margins. The main semidiurnal (M2) tidal current may also interact with these fluid processes.On the East China Sea shelf, megaripples and sand waves were found between depths of 140 and 220 m. Sand waves (200 m in wavelength) were observed in seismic reflection profiles. Large-scale lunate megaripples were observed at a depth of 154 m by the side-scan sonar. They had wavelengths of 10 to 30 m and waveheights of 1 to as high as 3 m. It appears from the types and nature of distribution of the megaripples that they are responding to the present-day flow regime, and it is partly ascertained from our observations over an interval of two years that the megaripples appear to be short-term response elements compared wit hteh sand waves. We conclude that the megaripples on the East China Sea shelf are current-formed during peak typhoon flow in August to November. From their distribution, the long term path of the main flow of the Tsushima Current is inferred at the edge of the East China Sea shelf. An area of low sediment mud content (less than 20 per cent) coincides with this path giving further support to our interpretation.  相似文献

Spectro-polarimetric observations in the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) range are currently the only means to measure magnetic fields in the upper chromosphere and transition region of the solar atmosphere. The Chromospheric Lyman-Alpha Spectro-Polarimeter (CLASP) aims to measure linear polarization at the hydrogen Lyman-α line (121.6 nm). This measurement requires a polarization sensitivity better than 0.1 %, which is unprecedented in the VUV range. We here present a strategy with which to realize such high-precision spectro-polarimetry. This involves the optimization of instrument design, testing of optical components, extensive analyses of polarization errors, polarization calibration of the instrument, and calibration with onboard data. We expect that this strategy will aid the development of other advanced high-precision polarimeters in the UV as well as in other wavelength ranges.  相似文献

The high-pressure and temperature equation of state of majorite solid solution, Mj0.8Py0.2, was determined up to 23 GPa and 773 K with energy-dispersive synchrotron X-ray diffraction at high pressure and high temperature using the single- and double-stage configurations of the multianvil apparatuses, MAX80 and 90. The X-ray diffraction data of the majorite sample were analyzed using the WPPD (whole-powder-pattern decomposition) method to obtain the lattice parameters. A least-squares fitting using the third-order Birch-Murnaghan equation of state yields the isothermal bulk modulus, K T0  = 156 GPa, its pressure derivative, K′ = 4.4(±0.3), and temperature derivative (∂K T /∂T) P = −1.9(±0.3)× 10−2 GPa/K, assuming that the thermal expansion coefficient is similar to that of pyrope-almandine solid solution. Instantaneous real-time kinematic (RTK) techniques are one approach to achieving real-time high-accuracy positioning. The object of this paper is to show the advantage of adding velocity information to instantaneous RTK positioning. In this paper, velocity from Doppler frequency measurements is used to help resolve integer ambiguities in the LAMBDA method. In urban areas, pseudorange measurements can suffer from significant errors due to strong multipath, despite the use of advanced multipath-mitigation techniques. However, Doppler frequency measurements do not deteriorate as much as pseudoranges, because the multipath error on Doppler frequency measurements is only in the range of several centimeters. Our proposed method has been tested by both static and moving users in sub-urban environments. Single-epoch ambiguity fixing performance was improved compared to conventional ambiguity resolution without velocity information.  相似文献
