Variably dismembered and metamorphosed accretionary complexes constitute the basement of much of the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. The most extensive of these is the Pompangeo Schist Complex, which crops out over ∼ 5000 km2 in central Sulawesi, and is predominantly composed of interbanded phyllitic marble, calcareous phyllite, graphitic schist and quartzite; rocks of terrigenous to shallow marine origin. Along the eastern margin of the complex, schists are interthrust with unmetamorphosed Jurassic sandstone, which may represent parental material of the complex. The schists are unconformably overlain by pelagic sediments with an Albian–Cenomanian biostratigraphy. Synmetamorphic progressive deformation of the Pompangeo Schist Complex has resulted in repeated isoclinal folding and a strong transposition foliation striking north-northwest/south-southeast and dipping west, subparallel to the compositional banding of the complex; microstructural fabrics indicate a top-to-east sense of shear. On a regional scale the Pompangeo Schist Complex is lithostratigraphically coherent and an east-to-west metamorphic field gradient is recognizable, which, if continuous, represents a relatively low thermal gradient of ∼ 15 °C/km. K–Ar dating yielded ages of ca 111 Ma. Correlative metamorphic rocks appear to underlie the entire Neogene magmatic province, since they occur sporadically throughout western Sulawesi, including the Bantimala region of the South Arm. The Pompangeo schist metamorphism cannot be correlated with arc magmatism in western Sulawesi, which is of Neogene age. The Pompangeo and Bantimala schists, as well as other accretionary complexes in western Sulawesi, were probably generated in the same subduction system that was responsible for the extensive Mesozoic continental arc in central Kalimantan, at the eastern margin of Sundaland. 相似文献

Superposed epoch analysis (SEA) was used to examine ionospheric drift velocities measured by a digital ionosonde located at the mid-latitude station Bundoora (145.1°E, 37.7°S geographic), near Melbourne. The control times for the SEA were the times of cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning strokes measured from August 2003 to August 2004 by the World Wide Lightning Location Network (WWLLN). Statistically, regions of concentrated lightning activity migrated from west to east across Bundoora, and the stroke frequency was higher the day prior the activity reached the station, and lower on the day after it passed to the east. For the SEA, CG strokes were separated into four directional quadrants centred on north, south, east and west. No SEA results are shown for the south quadrant due to the relatively low detection frequency of strokes across the Southern Ocean (6% of all events). The strongest downward vertical perturbations in F-region drifts, ?4.5 m s?1, were found for lightning located towards the west during ?30 to ?16 h (i.e., the afternoon prior the activity passed near the station at t=0 h). The downward perturbation decreased in amplitude to ?1.5 m s?1 for lightning located towards the north during ?6–+6 h, and was weakest (?0.7 m s?1) for lightning located towards the east during +16–+28 h (i.e., the next afternoon). There were directionally consistent perturbations in the drift azimuths associated with the lightning located in their respective quadrants; lightning located to the west of the station caused eastward azimuth enhancements, northward lightning caused southward enhancements, and eastward lightning caused westward enhancements. Velocity magnitudes and fluctuations tended to increase during the passage of lightning. The observed responses were stronger when the SEA was performed with data selected using time windows of <2 min on either side of each lightning stroke. However, they persisted at longer time scales and were strong when thunderstorm onsets (instead of lightning times) were used as controls. Our results can be explained by thunderstorm-generated atmospheric gravity waves (AGWs) which subsequently gave rise to medium-scale travelling ionospheric disturbances (MSTIDs), with the lightning strokes acting merely as a proxy for this coupling. The prevailing thermospheric winds were flowing from east to west across the study region, and may have acted as a directional ‘filter’ for the MSTIDs, allowing waves generated in the west quadrant to reach the station and preventing those generated in other quadrants. We have measured the radiative lifetime of the 2s22p4 1S0 metastable level of Ne2+ (Ne iii) to be 223+/-11 ms at the 90% confidence level by observing the photons emitted at 1815 ? by a decaying population of 1S0 Ne2+ ions produced and stored in a radio-frequency ion trap. This is the first lifetime measurement for an excited term of a ground configuration ion in the second row of the periodic table. The transition probabilities (A-values) for the forbidden transitions in the ground configurations of these ions are required for astrophysical line-ratio diagnostics. Using calculated branching ratios, we estimate that A&parl0;lambda1815&parr0;=1.94+/-0.17 and A&parl0;lambda3344&parr0;=2.55+/-0.19 s-1. Because these numbers have a sum with an experimentally determined uncertainty of 5%, they will provide more accurate results than the calculated A-values for determining electron temperature and density from astrophysical Ne iii line ratios. 相似文献

Measurements of the solar X-ray spectrum between 3 Å and 15 Å are reported. They were made with two slitless Bragg crystal spectrometers flown on a Sun-pointed Skylark rocket on 8 August, 1967.The use of a beryl crystal has provided higher spectral resolution than hitherto in the spectral range 12 Å and 15 Å leading, in particular, to a revised identification of the strong line at 13.71 Å. Separate components of the stronger emission lines are clearly seen from each of three coronal active regions which may be identified on radio and X-ray spectroheliograms.The absolute line fluxes are used to determine a model for each active region in terms of the differential emission measure as a function of electron temperature. Metamorphosed tectonic blocks (or ‘knockers’) are widespread but volumetrically minor constituents of many circum-Pacific mélange belts, Due to the common lack of an exposed in situ provenance and to the seemingly chaotic field disposition of most block-bearing mélanges, their origin and uplift history are problematic and controversial. On the Indonesian island of Sulawesi a block-bearing mélange is overlain by an ophiolite nappe, the base of which is characterized by a metamorphic sole sequence. Petrological, geochemical and geochronological data indicate a direct genetic relationship between high-grade tectonic blocks in the mélange and amphibolites in the metamorphic sole. Amphibolite precursors to lower temperature blueschist assemblages are virtually ubiquitous in the tectonic blocks and subdivisions based on the nature of the overprinting relationships can be systematically correlated with block distribution patterns orientated subparallel to the strike of the mélange belt. It is suggested here that the high-grade tectonic blocks originated in a thin, thermally zoned metamorphic sheet welded to the oceanic hangingwall plate at the inception of subduction. Break-up of this sequence at depth, by tectonic erosion, led to dispersal of fragments into a newly developed serpentinite mélange wedge. Blocks experienced abrupt changes in P-T-X conditions due to a combination of hydration in the new fluid-rich environment, gradual cooling of the hangingwall over time and continuing underflow dragging sheared blocks deeper into the subduction zone, prior to upflow. Blocks plucked from the hangingwall at different depths and at different times evidently experienced uplift in different flow channels, resulting in block concentrations, with P-T-t paths characteristic of their source and flow trajectory, at systematically greater distances from the subduction zone hangingwall. The elucidation of the origin and significance of tectonic blocks in Sulawesi has important implications not only for the tectonometamorphic evolution of similar inclusions in other mélange belts, but also for models of the inception and early stages of subduction. 相似文献

Intensity measurements in the solar continuum throughout the wavelength range 1400 Å–1875 Å are reported for a rocket flight from White Sands, New Mexico at 16:31 h UT on September 24, 1968. These intensities are approximately a factor of 3 lower than other published estimates and suggest a solar temperature minimum of 4400 K or lower which is in agreement with infrared observations. 相似文献
