Several factors influence the behaviour of infilled frames, which have been a subject of research in the past with moderate success. The new generation of European design standards imposes the need to prevent brittle collapse of the infills and makes the structural engineer accountable for this requirement, yet it fails to provide sufficient information for masonry infills design. Therefore, the present work aims at understanding the seismic behaviour of masonry infill walls within reinforced concrete frames, using both unreinforced and reinforced solutions (bed joint reinforcement and reinforced plaster). For this purpose, three reinforced concrete buildings with different infill solutions were constructed at a scale of 1:1.5, all with the same geometry, and were tested on the shaking table of the National Laboratory for Civil Engineering, Portugal. All solutions performed adequately for the design earthquake, with no visible damage. Still, the experimental tests show that the double‐leaf‐unreinforced infill walls underperformed during a large earthquake, collapsing out of plane by rotating as rigid bodies with multiple configurations. Also the reinforced concrete buildings collapsed, because of the adverse interaction with the infill walls. The infill walls with bed joint reinforcement and reinforced plaster did not collapse out of plane, because of their connection to the concrete frame, which is an essential requirement. The structure and ice content of ice caves are poorly understood. Ground penetrating radar (GPR) can provide useful insights but has only rarely been applied to ice caves. This paper interprets GPR images (radargrams) in terms of internal structure, stratification, compaction, thickness and volume of the ice block in the Peña Castil ice cave (Central Massif of Picos de Europa, northern Spain), providing the endokarst geometry of the ice cave in GPR data reflections. Eight radargrams were obtained by applying a shielded ground‐coupled antenna with a nominal frequency of 400 MHz. Although the radargrams do not depict the ice–basal bedrock interface, they suggest that the ice block is at least 54 m deep and similarly thick. Some curved reflection signatures suggest a potential vertical displacement in the block of ice, and thus certain dynamics in the ice body. Other images show numerous interbedded clasts and thin sediment layers imaged as banded reflections. In this particular cave a direct visual inspection of the ice stratigraphy is a difficult task but GPR provides clear reflectivity patterns of some of its internal features, making GPR a suitable instrument for this and future studies to achieve a better and broader understanding of the internal behavior of ice caves. 相似文献

Summer upwelling and downwelling processes were characterized in the Northern Galician Rias during July and August 2008 by means of sampling carried out onboard R/V Mytilus (CSIC) and R/V Lura (IEO). Thermohaline variables, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, chlorophyll, phytoplankton, ciliates and zooplankton abundances were measured at sections located in the Rias of Viveiro, Barqueiro and Ortigueira and their adjacent shelves. Ekman transport was calculated from QuikSCAT satellite, upwelling intensity estimated with upwelling index from the average daily geostrophic winds, and SST maps obtained from NASA GHRSST satellite. Ekman transport and SST behaviour showed two different patterns: (i) offshore and upwelling favourable conditions on 13–22nd of July; (ii) onshore and downwelling favourable conditions from 23rd July to 19th August. During upwelling, TS diagram showed an intrusion of Eastern North Atlantic Central Water affecting the continental shelf but not the rias. Nutrient salt concentrations increased with depth, reaching their maximum values near the mouth of Ortigueira Ria. During downwelling, coastal water increased its temperature (18.5–19.8 °C) and was retained inside rias; nutrients were nearly depleted, except for the innermost ria (estuarine zone) due to fluvial nutrient inputs. In this inner area, the maximum of chlorophyll-a (Barqueiro Ria) was observed. Low phytoplankton abundances were measured in both cases, even though a short increase in the plankton biomass was observed inside rias during upwelling, while under downwelling a small red tide of Lingulodinium polyedrum was detected. During the upwelling period Northern Rias tend to be mesotrophic systems as revealed by nutrient concentrations, chlorophyll levels and plankton abundances. In this paper we consider the reduction of the equations of motion for non-planar perturbed two body problems into linear form. It is seen that this can be easily accomplished for any element of the class of radial intermediaries to the satellite problem proposed by Deprit in 1981, since they have a functional dependence suitable for linearization. The transformation is worked out by using an adequate set of redundant variables. Four harmonic oscillators are obtained, of which two are coupled through gyroscopic terms. Their constant frequencies contain the secular contribution of the main problem of artificial satellite theory up to the order of the considered intermediary. Therefore, this result may well be interesting in relation to the study and prediction of accurate long-term solutions to satellite problems. 相似文献

Glasses, in the Kaba CV3 chondrite, occur as mesostasis in chondrules and aggregates and as inclusions in olivines, both confined or open and connected to the mesostasis. The inclusions in olivine and the glassy mesostasis of aggregates seem to have formed contemporaneously. The confined glass inclusions and open inclusions in olivine were formed during olivine growth and the mesostasis glass during olivine aggregation. All glasses have high trace element contents (10-20×CI) with unfractionated CI-normalized abundances of refractory trace elements. In contrast, V, Mn, Li, and Cr are depleted in all glasses with respect to the refractory trace elements, as is Rb in the glass inclusions in olivine but not in the mesostasis glass. This abundance pattern indicates vapor fractionation and a common condensation origin for both glasses. Glasses of confined glass inclusions in olivine have a SiAlCa-rich composition with a chondritic Ca/Al ratio. Glasses of open glass inclusions and mesostasis are poor in Ca and enriched in alkalis. However, Ca contents of olivines indicate crystallization from a Ca-rich melt of a composition similar to that of the glass inclusions. In addition, trace element abundances indicate that these glasses (liquids) probably had an original composition similar to that of the inclusion glass. They apparently lost Ca in exchange for alkalis in a metasomatic exchange reaction, presumably with the vapor. There is now growing evidence that liquids can indeed condense from a solar nebula gas, provided the gas/dust ratio is sufficiently low. In these regions with enhanced oxygen fugacity as compared to that of a nebula of solar composition, liquids (the glass precursor) probably played an important role in growing crystals from the vapor by liquid-phase epitaxy. The glasses appear to be the remnants of this thin liquid layer interface that supported the growth of olivine from the vapor following the Vapor-Liquid-Solid process. This liquid will have a refractory composition and will have trace element contents which are in equilibrium with the vapor, and, therefore, will not change much during the time of olivine growth. The composition of the liquid seems to be unconstrained by the phases it is in contact with. Samples of this liquid will be retained as glass inclusions in olivine. The glassy mesostasis could also be a sample of this liquid that got trapped in inter-crystal spaces. The mesostasis glass subsequently behaved as an open system and its Ca was exchanged—presumably with the vapor—for the alkali elements Na, K, and Rb. In contrast, glass inclusions in olivine were protected by the host, could not react, and thus preserved the original composition of this liquid. 相似文献
