The free-convection flow of an incompressible and viscous fluid past an exponentially accelerated infinite vertical plate is analysed. The Laplace transform method is used to obtain the expressions for velocity and skin-friction. Sixty-five samples of rocks, soils, plants and well waters in the Mamandur area have been analysed for Cu, Zn, Pb, Sr, K, Na, and Mn by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Among the plants, Waltheria indica Sterculiaceae is confined to mineralised ground in the area. This plant is characterised by maximum concentration of Zn, Cu, Mn, Rb, Sr, Na and K, and is to that extent, a valuable (though not an infallible) indicator of base-metal mineralisation. It is shown that there is considerable difference in the intake of elements by plants in relation to the concentration of the same elements in the soils and well waters of the area.  相似文献

The Khetri region forms a late Palaeoproterozoic igneous–metamorphic complex in NE Rajasthan, India. Seven granitoid plutons of the Khetri complex have been studied for zircon U–Pb and Pb–Pb dating along with whole-rock and Nd–Sr isotope geochemistry to provide new constraints on the Palaeoproterozoic magmatic activity in the Aravalli orogen of northwestern India. Most intrusives show evidence of moderate to extreme albitisation forming microcline–albite granite and albite granite, respectively. The rocks are metaluminous to weakly peraluminous, largely ferroan and intraplate A-type granites. The U–Pb zircon ages for four plutons cover a time span of 1732–1682 Ma, whereas Pb–Pb zircon evaporation data for three intrusives indicate minimum emplacement ages between 1671 and 1537 Ma. The Nd–Sr isotopic systematics suggest the involvement of Neoarchaean to Palaeoproterozoic crustal components in the petrogenesis of these granitoids. A regional survey of late Palaeoproterozoic ages in the Aravalli orogen provides evidence for a geographically widespread extension-related event in the northwestern Indian shield about 1720–1700 Ma ago. The record of comparable ages and the magmatic history reported in parts of North America and the North China Craton may indicate the significance of this event for the rift tectonics of the hypothetical supercontinent Columbia.  相似文献

New productivity measurements using the 15N tracer technique were conducted in the north-eastern (NE) Arabian Sea during six expeditions from 2003 to 2007, mostly in winter. Our results indicate that the NE Arabian Sea has a potential for higher new productivity during blooms. Nitrate uptake by plankton is the highest during late winter. New productivity and f-ratios in the NE Arabian Sea are mainly controlled by hydrodynamic and meteorological parameters such as wind strength, sea surface temperature (SST), mixed layer depth (MLD) and mixed layer nitrate. Deepening of the mixed layer supplies nitrate from below, which supports the observed nitrogen uptake. Higher f-ratios during blooms indicate the strong coupling between surface layers and sub-surface layers. Deepening of mixed layer below 100 m (from its inter-monsoon value between 30 and 40 m) transferred often more than 100 mmol N–NO3 m? 2 into the surface layers from below. The observed winter blooms in the region are supported by such input and are sustained for more than a month. Higher new productivity has been found in late winter, whereas transport of nitrate is maximum in early winter. In general, new production varies progressively during winter. Diurnal cycling of the mixed layer could be the reason for the under utilization of entrained nitrate during early winter. New productivity values and wind strength show significant differences during Feb–Mar 03 and Feb–Mar 04. These differences indicate that the winter cooling and parameters related the biological productivity also vary inter-annually. However, the difference between the new productivity values between Feb–Mar 03 and Feb–Mar 04 is much lower than the difference between Jan 03 and Feb–Mar 03. The results suggest that amplitude of seasonal variation is higher than the inter-annual variation in the region. During spring, Fickian diffusive fluxes of nitrate into the surface layer range from 0.51 to 1.38 mmol N–NO3 m? 2 day? 1, and can account for 67% and 78% of the observed nitrogen uptake in the coastal and open ocean regions, respectively. We document the intra-seasonal and inter-annual variations in new productivity during winter and identify sources of nitrate which support the observed productivity during spring.  相似文献

This paper examines the relationship between local institutions and adaptation to climate variability in four semi-arid villages in India. Based on a qualitative survey, it draws attention to the constraints that farming households face, the role of institutions, and the implications for their capacities to adapt. Using an institutional framework, the study examines the role of local institutions in facilitating community adaptation to perceived climate variability. It was found that at the institutional and community level farmers rely on government schemes that provide social safety nets and the private sector such as moneylenders as sources of adaptation options regarding access to credit. Serious constraints emerged, however, in terms of adaptation to what may be a more challenging future. These constraints were further explored by means of grounded theory. The lack of collective feeling and action has hindered bargaining for better market prices and the development of alternate livelihood options. The need for better financial inclusion and access to more formal systems of finance is necessary to increase the overall adaptive capacity of households. During crisis situations or climatic shocks, the absence of these systems means the sale of household assets and resources especially among small and landless groups of farmers. Overall, rural households perceive that public, civic, and private institutions play a significant role in shielding them against the adverse effects of climate variability. The perceived importance of different institutions is, however, different across different categories of farmers, women, and labourers.  相似文献

The impact of surface melt patterns and the Indian summer monsoon (ISM) is examined on the varying contributions of end member (snow, glacier ice, and rain) to proglacial streamflow during the ablation period (June–October) in the Chhota Shigri glaciated basin, Western Himalaya. Isotopic seasonality observed in the catchment precipitation was generally reflected in surface runoff (supraglacial melt and proglacial stream) and shows a shift in major water source during the melt season. Isotopically correlated (δ18O–δD) high deuterium intercept in the surface runoff suggests that westerly precipitation acts as the dominant source, augmenting the other snow- and ice-melt sources in the region. The endmember contributions to the proglacial stream were quantified using a three-component mixing. Overall, glacier ice melt is the major source of proglacial discharge. Snowmelt is the predominant source during the early ablation season (June) and the peak ISM period (August and September), whereas ice melt reaches a maximum in the peak melt period (July). The monthly contribution of rain is on the lower side and shows a steady rise and decline with onset and retreat of the monsoon. These results are persistent with the surface melt pattern observed in Chhota Shigri glacier, Upper Chandra basin. Moreover, the role of the ISM in Chhota Shigri glacier is unvarying to that observed in other glacierized catchments of Upper Ganga basin. Thus, this study augments the significant role of the ISM in glacier mass balance up to the boundary of the central-western Himalayan glaciated region.  相似文献

Summary The sediment-hosted exhalative Rampura Agucha Zn-Pb-(Ag) deposit in Rajasthan, India, contains a number of oxide minerals which have been formed as a result of high-grade metamorphism. Gahnite (Zn0.66–0.75Fe0.13–0.24Mg0.06–0.13Al1.98–2.01O4) is a common minor phase in the ores and formed from breakdown of sphalerite and Al-rich silicates. Pyrophanite-ilmenite solid solution (Fe0.42–0.68Mn0.32–0.58Ti0.99–1.01O3) is very rare and occurs, intergrown with rutile, as a result of unmixing of a Ti-Fe-Mn bearing precursor mineral.Dravite-rich tourmaline with Fe/(Fe+Mg) ratios around 0.02 occurs at the hanging wall contact of the orebody with the paragneisses and is intergrown with the ore minerals. Tourmaline from the stratabound ores is distinguished from schorl-rich tourmaline of two pegmatite samples which show Fe/(Fe+Mg) ratios of 0.43 and 0.62, respectively. It is argued that dravite-rich tourmaline (or another B-rich precursor mineral) is of premetamorphic origin. This dravite-rich tourmaline recrystallized during high-grade metamorphism when the metamorphic fluid, represented by H2O-CO2±CH4-N2 inclusions, was trapped.Amphiboles, muscovites and biotites from metamorphic rocks of the deposit display radiometric39Ar/40Ar cooling ages between 788 and 909 Ma.

Zusammenfassung Die sedimentär-exhalative Zn-Pb-(Ag) Lagerstätte Rampura Agucha in Rajasthan, Indien, beinhaltet eine Reihe von Oxidmineralen, die infolge der hochgradigen Regional-metamorphose gebildet wurden. Gahnit (Zn0.66–0.75Fe0.13–0.24 Mg0.06–0.13Al1.98–2.01O4) ist eine häufig anzutreffende Phase, die sich aus Sphalerit und Al-reichen Silikatphasen gebildet hat. Pyrophanit-Ilmenit (Fe0.42–0.68Mn0.32–0.58 T0.99–1.01O3) ist sehr selten und bildet, aufgrund der Entmischung eines Ti-Fe-Mn hältigen Vorläuferminerals, Verwachsungen mit Rutil.Dravit-reicher Turmalin mit einem Fe/(Fe+Mg) Verhältnis um 0.02 bildete sich gleichzeitig mit den Sulfidmineralen am Kontakt des Erzkörpers mit den hangenden Paragneisen der Lagerstätte. Dieser Turmalin unterscheidet sich klar von Schörlreichem Turmalin mit Fe/(Fe+Mg) Verhältnissen von 0.43 und 0.62 von zwei Pegmatiten. Die Herkunft dieses prämetamorphen Dravit-reichen Turmalins (oder dessen Vorgängerminerals) ist unklar. Dieser Turmalin rekristallisierte während der Metamorphose, wobei er das metamorphe H2O-CO2±CH4-N2-Fluid in Form von primären Einschlüssen einschloß.Amphibol, Muskowit und Biotit wurden mittels39Ar/40Ar-Methode datiert und liefern radiometrische Abkühlungsalter zwischen 788 und 909 Ma.

Placer mineral exploration has been undertaken along the beach of Central Tamil Nadu coast from Pondicherry to Vedaranyam. On the basis of the drainage network, geomorphology, and the coastal environment, the study area has been grouped into three sectors, North, Central, and South. Heavy mineral by Wt% shows a slightly higher abundance in the Northern sector, an enrichment of opaques in the Central sector from stations between Poompuhar and Karaikal, and a total depletion in the Southern sector. An abundance of heavies in the Northern sector is considered to be the result of a higher wave energy, and the cymatogenic downwarping of the basin during the present transgression. An enrichment of heavies in the Central sector from Poompuhar to Karaikal is attributable to the reworking of the beach ridges, which were submerged during the present transgression, and to the role of density sorting. A depletion of heavies in the Southern sector is accounted for by the absence of a terrigenous supply and the prevalence of wave shadow conditions throughout the year. The nature of the heavy mineral assemblage reflects the derivation of sediments principally from khondalites, granites, metamorphic rocks and paleo-sediments. Factor analysis also supplements the predominant role of a density factor in the segregation of heavy minerals in the study area. A five-stage model is proposed for the formation of placer deposits in the study region. The present study has disclosed rich concentrations of ilmenites in the central sector between Poompuhar and Karaikal that can be commercially exploited.  相似文献
