Past studies of the Socialist/Communist city have paid only limited attention to the ways in which Communist regimes mobilised a wide variety of symbols in the urban landscape in order to legitimate and institutionalise the ideology of revolutionary socialism. This paper considers the role of street names in this process with particular reference to Bucharest, Romania during the 1948–1965 period. When the Communist regime came to power it embarked on widespread renaming of streets as one means of both `decommemorating' the pre-socialist regime and proclaiming the agenda and ideology of the Communist state. The new street names commemorated a variety of events and personalities from the history of Romanian and Soviet Communism. The impact of street names was amplified further through practices such as multiple namings and the spatial clustering of street names of high ideological resonances. The paper argues that Bucharest's street names can be `read' as a mirror of ideological change, changing constructions of national identity, and Romania's macro-political orientation (especially its changing relations with the Soviet Union). 相似文献

Declared in 1990, the Piatra Craiului is one of Romania's 15 national parks and biosphere reserves. It has exceptional scenic
and biodiversity value but is under threat from unsustainable agricultural, forestry and tourism management. The paper examines
these threats in a historical context, regarding both the growth of the town of Braşov and areas of dispersed rural settlement
on the mountain edge, and argues that a sustainable future will require negotiation between the park authorities and all stakeholders,
including the local communities and private woodland owners who have benefited or will benefit from restitution. The way forward
is explored with forest management in a central role. First, the certification of woodlands, along with the establishment
of forest user groups and community woodlands, should help to reconcile the conflicting interests in the woodlands and in
wood processing in support of sustainability. Second, the overgrazing of the meadows which is degrading the pastures, restricting
forest regeneration and conflicting with large carnivore conservation, could be moderated by the growth of ecotourism linked
with bears and wolves which would generate a new source of income to compensate farmers for reducing their flocks – given
the importance of the biodiversity resources and the socio-economic pressures – and the paper therefore considers how new
approaches to forest management might provide a basis for conservation and sustainable development. It will be for the recently-established
national park management system – developed with World Bank Global Environment Facility funding – to take these ideas forward
in due course.

Seismic velocity anisotropies measured in underground mines are compared within situ stress measurements in these mines. These underground data are also compared with seismic velocity anisotropies observed by large scale seismic sounding conducted from the earth's surface, The velocity anisotropies are about 10% and the data obtained by different methods on different scales and frequencies agree with each other. The directions of largest and smallest velocities coincide with the largest and smallest horizontal stresses, respectively. These results suggest that the direction and magnitude of stresses in potential mining areas could be estimated from velocity anisotropies observed in seismic prospecting of the area. 相似文献

Evaporation and heat exchange of a body of water with the atmosphere in a shallow zone 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Results are rported from experimental and theoretical studies of the energy and mass exchange of a body of water with the atmosphere. A new parametric model has been developed on the basis of experimental data that takes into account the influence of the depth of the basin on evaporation, its heat exchange with the atmosphere, and the water-surface friction at different wind speeds. Comparison of the model with measurements during the LITFASS-98 and LITFASS-2003 experiments (Germany) shows good consistency. The results indicate, on the one hand, that the depth of the basin has a large effect on the intensity of energy exchange under natural conditions. On the other hand, the examples shown in the paper illustrate good agreement of the model calculations with experimental data. On the basis of the experimental data on the influence of the basin depth on the intensity of the interaction between the basin and the atmosphere, a balance model of the energy exchange in the coastal zone has been developed. The balance model calculates the momentum, heat, and moisture fluxes at different distances from the shore. Results of using the new model to estimate the intensification of evaporation and the heat exchange of the northern Caspian and the Kara-Bogaz Gol are discussed. 相似文献

The results of studying the hydrological regime of the Caspian Sea and its basin climate in observation period 1945–2010 are generalized. The results of analysis of the regime of precipitation, air temperature in the Caspian Sea basin and its level, as well as Volga runoff in periods of Caspian Sea level rise and drop are given.
