If anatexis takes place in the presence of an immiscible volatile-rich fluid phase, the behaviour of a trace element depends not only on partition coefficients Di ? between mineral i and silicate liquid, but also on coefficients Di f between mineral i and fluid. The limited experimental data available, as well as theoretical arguments, suggest that for common minerals these coefficients differ, in some cases (REE) notably.Theory has been developed to permit calculation of concentration variations with the fraction F of rock melted, if D-values are known. In its present state this theory neglects the influence of T, P and composition variations in liquid and fluid on the D-values: if such variations can be expressed as functions of F, appropriate modifications can be made. The theory also neglects the effects of T and P on the solubility of fluid in liquid and the resulting modifications to phase petrology, by assuming simply that a given mass of rock melts in the presence of a mass proportion v of fluid. By choosing different values of v, from 0 (dry melting) to 100 (large fluid excess), the response of the trace element concentrations can be followed, beginning with concentration co in the unmelted rock. Such treatment is highly idealised, but serves to indicate some limits on what can occur.  相似文献

Inorganic chlorine (i.e. chloride; Clin) is generally considered inert in soil and is often used as a tracer of soil and ground water movements. However, recent studies indicate that substantial retention or release of Clin can occur in soil, but the rates and processes responsible under different environmental conditions are largely unknown. We performed 36Cl tracer experiments which indicated that short-term microbial uptake and release of Clin, in combination with more long-term natural formation of chlorinated organic matter (Clorg), caused Clin imbalances in coniferous forest soil. Extensive microbial uptake and release of Clin occurred over short time scales, and were probably associated with changes in environmental conditions. Up to 24% of the initially available Clin within pore water was retained by microbial uptake within a week in our experiments, but most of this Clin was released to the pore water again within a month, probably associated with decreasing microbial populations. The natural formation of Clorg resulted in a net immobilization of 4% of the initial pore water Clin over four months. If this rate is representative for the area where soil was collected, Clorg formation would correspond to a conversion of 25% of the yearly wet deposition of Clin. The study illustrates the potential of two Clin retaining processes in addition to those previously addressed elsewhere (e.g. uptake of chloride by vegetation). Hence, several processes operating at different time scales and with different regulation mechanisms can cause Clin imbalances in soil. Altogether, the results of the present study (1) provide evidence that Clin cannot be assumed to be inert in soil, (2) show that microbial exchange can regulate pore water Clin concentrations and (3) confirm the controversial idea of substantial natural chlorination of soil organic matter.  相似文献

The statistics of turbulent flow across a forest edge have been examined using large-eddy simulation, and results compared with field and wind-tunnel observations. The moorland-to-forest transition is characterized by flow deceleration in the streamwise direction, upward distortion of the mean flow, formation of a high pressure zone immediately in front of the edge, suppression of the standard deviations and covariance of velocity components, and enhancement of velocity skewnesses. For the selected forest density, it is observed that the maximum distortion angle is about 8 degrees from the horizontal. Instead of approaching a downwind equilibrium state in a monotonic manner, turbulence (standard deviations and covariances of velocity components) and mean streamwise velocity undershoot in the transition zone behind the edge. Evolution of flow statistics clearly reveals the growth of an internal boundary layer, and the establishment of an equilibrium layer downwind of the edge. It is evident that lower-order moments generally adjust more quickly over the new rough surface than do higher-order moments. We also show that the streamwise velocity standard deviation at canopy height starts its recovery over the rough surface sooner than does the vertical velocity standard deviation, but completes full adjustment later than the latter. Despite the limited domain size upstream of the edge, large-eddy simulation has successfully reproduced turbulent statistics in good agreement with field and wind-tunnel measurements.  相似文献

Atmospheric activity concentrations of 212Pb and short-lived 222Rndaughters, together with meteorological elements, have been observed continuously atthree sites at Kamisaibara Village in Japan. In addition, atmospheric activity concentrationof 222Rn, equilibrium-equivalent concentration of 222Rn and conditionsof the lower atmosphere were observed for three intensive observation periods at Akawase,one of the three sites in Kamisaibara Village. The equilibrium-equivalent concentration of222Rn is almost the same as the atmospheric activity concentration of short-lived222Rn daughters.The activity concentrations of 212Pb and the short-lived 222Rn daughtersand their ratio were low in the daytime owing to convective mixing, and high at nightowing to the surface-based inversion during periods of no precipitation. Their variationshave several patterns corresponding to the scale of the drainage wind or weak mixing.Mechanical mixing due to strong winds through both day and night during the first andsecond observation periods made the atmospheric activity concentrations of 212Pb and the short-lived 222Rn daughters continuously low. However, their ratios werecontinuously high during the first period yet continuously low during the second period.This difference can be explained by the effect ofextraction of 220Rn and 222Rndue to strong winds and snow cover. There were also cases in which the ratio of theatmospheric activity concentration of 212Pb to that of the short-lived 222Rndaughters at night was equal to or less than the ratio in the daytime. Thisinverse trend, asin the periods of no precipitation mentioned above, is considered to be due to near-neutralconditions on these nights.We find a difference in the ratio of the equilibrium-equivalent concentration of222Rn (the activity concentration of short-lived 222Rn daughters) tothe activity concentration of 222Rn during the first observation period and thatduring the second. The difference can be explained by snow cover on the ground. Wealso find differences among the ratios of the activity concentration of the short-lived222Rn daughters to that of 222Rn during the three observation periods.These differences can be explained by the submergence of paddy fields.  相似文献

Carbonate-rich lacustrine and deltaic deposits, containing thin beds of finely laminated carbonates and thick beds of silt, crop out at several sites in the Taylor Valley and have been encountered in cores obtained by the Dry Valley Drilling Project (DVDP). Fragments of the more indurated carbonate beds have widespread occurrence as part of the desert “lag gravel” which covers much of the valley floor. Analysis of the carbonates suggests that they were deposited as algal limestones from waters derived from the East Antarctic Ice Sheet via the Taylor Glacier at times which correspond to the previous three global interglacial periods, as evidenced by the ice volumes deduced from oxygen-isotopic analysis of oceanic cores. The lacustrine carbonates have been found up to 30 km beyond the present terminus of the Taylor Glacier, and up to 100 m above the level of Lake Bonney, into which the Taylor Glacier at present discharges. It is concluded that the Taylor Glacier has advanced during each of the previous three interglaciations, and it is suggested that this has been caused by a thickening of the East Antarctic Ice Sheet during the interglaciations.  相似文献

During spilitisation the abundance of Li increases from about 12 ppm in normal basaltic rocks to an average of 75 ppm, with some spilites containing up to 190 ppm. This is relatively far greater than the increase of <50% in Na. Also the ratio CaO/Al2O3 decreases from about 1.0 to <0.1 and the H2O content increases markedly.Alteration of this kind requires waters rich in both Na and Li, with the material added having a ratio 105 Li/Na of about 750: the ratio for seawater is 1.8 but most subsurface waters have higher ratios and are more likely agents of spilitisation.Volcanic hydrothermal brines have suitable Li and Na abundances and are known to have reacted with fresh basalts to produce spilitic alteration: in cases of spilitisation of volcanogenic sediments, reaction with non-volcanic brines may have occurred. In both cases the waters must initially have high CO2 and low Ca activities.  相似文献
