A high-resolution seismic survey was carried out at the accretionary prism on the continental slope off Vancouver Island,
Canada. Two GI-Gun data sets with different source frequency ranges of 50–150 and 100–500 Hz were combined with 4 kHz narrow-beam
echosounding data (Parasound). The data allow spatial correlation between a gas hydrate bottom simulating reflector (BSR)
and distinct areas of high near-sea-floor reflectivity. An integrated interpretation of the multi-frequency data set provides
insight into the regional distribution of tectonically induced fluid migration and gas hydrate formation in the vicinity of
ODP Leg 146 Sites 889 and 890. The BSR at the base of the gas hydrate stability field is observed within accreted and deformed
sediments, but appears to be absent within bedded slope basin deposits. It is suggested that these basin deposits inhibit
vertical fluid flow and prevent the formation of a BSR, whereas the hydraulic conductivity of the accreted sediments is sufficiently
high to allow for pervasive gas migration. An elevation of the BSR beneath the flanks of a topographic high is interpreted
as an indicator for local upflow of warm fluids along permeable pathways within outcropping accreted sediments. Parasound
data reveal discontinuous zones of high reflectivity at or directly beneath the sea floor, which may indicate local cementation
of surface sediments. In combination with GI-Gun data, the occurrence of these reflective areas can be related to the location
of slope sedimentary basins acting as hydraulic seals. It is proposed that the seals sometimes fail along faults extending
beneath the BSR, leading to focused upflow of methane-bearing fluid and the formation of carbonate pavements at the sea floor.

High-resolution seismic and bathymetric data offshore southeast Ireland and LIDaR data in County Waterford are presented that partially overlap previous studies. The observed Quaternary stratigraphic succession offshore southeast Ireland (between Dungarvan and Kilmore Quay) records a sequence of depositional and erosional events that supports regional glacial models derived from nearby coastal sediment stratigraphies and landforms. A regionally widespread, acoustically massive facies interpreted as the ‘Irish Sea Till’ infills an uneven, channelized bedrock surface overlying irregular mounds and deposits in bedrock lows that are probably earlier Pleistocene diamicts. The till is truncated and overlain by a thin, stratified facies, suggesting the development of a regional palaeolake following ice recession of the Irish Sea Ice Stream. A north–south oriented seabed ridge to the north is interpreted as an esker, representing southward flowing subglacial drainage associated with a restricted ice sheet advance of the Irish Ice Sheet onto the Celtic Sea shelf. Onshore topographic data reveal streamlined bedforms that corroborate a southerly advance of ice onto the shelf across County Waterford. The combined evidence supports previous palaeoglaciological models. Significantly, for the first time, this study defines a southern limit for a Late Midlandian Irish Ice Sheet advance onto the Celtic Sea shelf. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献

The quality of real-time GPS positions based on the method of precise point positioning (PPP) heavily depends on the availability and accuracy of GPS satellite orbits and satellite clock corrections. Satellite-based augmentation systems (SBAS) provide such corrections but they are actually intended to be used for wide area differential GPS with positioning results on the 1-m accuracy level. Nevertheless, carrier phase-based PPP is able to achieve much more accurate results with the same correction values. We applied SBAS corrections for dual-frequency PPP and compared the results with PPP obtained using other real-time correction data streams, for example, the GPS broadcast message and precise corrections from the French Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales and the German Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt. Among the three existing SBAS, the best results were achieved for the North American wide area augmentation system (WAAS): horizontal and vertical position accuracies were considerably smaller than 10 cm for static 24-h observation data sets and smaller than 30 cm for epoch-by-epoch solutions with 2 h of continuous observations. The European geostationary navigation overlay service and the Japanese multi-functional satellite augmentation system yield positioning results with biases of several tens of centimeters and variations larger by factors of 2–4 as compared to WAAS. 相似文献

Impacts of subsurface heat storage on aquifer hydrogeochemistry 总被引:3,自引:3,他引:0
The use of shallow aquifers for subsurface heat storage in terms of energy management and building climatisation can lead to a temperature rise in the aquifer to 70 °C and above. The influence of temperature changes on individual mineral and sorption equilibria, reaction kinetics and microbial activity is largely known. However, the impact of heating to temperatures as high as 70 °C on the aquifer overall system has not been quantified yet. Temperature-related changes in sediment ion exchange behaviour, dimension and rates of mineral dissolution and precipitation as well as microbially enhanced redox processes were studied in column experiments using aquifer sediment and tap water at 10, 25, 40, and 70 °C. At 70 °C, a change in sediment sorption behaviour for cations and organic acids was postulated based on temporal changes in pH, magnesium, and potassium concentration in the experimental solution. No clear changes of pH, TIC and major cations were found at 10–40 °C. Redox zoning shifted from oxic conditions towards nitrate and iron(III) reducing conditions at 25 and 40 °C and sulphate reducing conditions at 70 °C. This was attributed to (a) a temperature-related increase in microbial reduction activity, and (b) three times higher release of organic carbon from the sediment at 70 °C compared to the lower temperatures. The findings of this study predict that a temperature increase in the subsurface up to 25 °C and above can impair the usability of ground water as drinking and process water, by reducing metal oxides and thus possibly releasing heavy metals from the sediment. Generally, at 70 °C, where clear cation and organic carbon desorption processes were observed and sulphate reducing conditions could be achieved, a site-specific assessment of temperature effects is required, especially for long-term operations of subsurface heat storage facilities. 相似文献

We consider density fluctuations of a two-fluid model consisting of hydrogen plasma and radiation prior to the cosmic hydrogen recombination. As investigation method that of the dispersion relations is applied, which have been derived from the general-relativistic sound-wave equations taking into account the coupling between plasma and radiation carefully. We obtain growing unstable acoustic modes within the mass range 2 · 106 M ⊙ < M < 6 · 10 12 M ⊙. In a second step the coupled differential equations for the amplitudes of the unstable modes are integrated numerically with respect to time where the integration extends from the initial time prior to the hydrogen recombination up to the present time. We find a significant increase of the amplitudes up to 4 orders of magnitude, if the Universe is described by a cosmological model with a positive cosmological constant (Λ ? 2,2 · 10-56 cm-2) and a positive curvature (Lemaître-Universe) without an essential amount of cold dark matter. Many compact radio sources like quasars, blazars, radio galaxies, and micro-quasars emit circular polarisation (CP) with surprising temporal persistent handedness. We propose that the CP is caused by Faraday conversion (FC) of linear polarisation (LP) synchrotron light which propagates along a line-of-sight (LOS) through helical magnetic fields. Jet outflows from radio galaxies should have the required magnetic helicity in the emission region due to the magnetic torque of the accretion disc. Also advection dominated accretion flow (ADAF)should contain magnetic fields with the same helicity. However, a jetregion seems to be the more plausible origin of CP. The proposed scenario requires Faraday rotation (FR) to be insignificant in the emission region. The proposed mechanism works in electron-positron(e±) as well as electron-proton (e/p) plasma. In the latter case, the emission region should consist of individual flux tubes with independent polarities in order to suppress too strong FR– as it was already proposed for FR based CP generation models. The predominant CP is expected to mostly counter-rotate (rotation is measured here in sky-projection) with respect to the central engine in all cases (jet or ADAF, e± or e/p plasma) and therefore allows to measure the sense of rotation of quasar engines. The engine of SgrA* is expected – in this scenario – to rotate clockwise and therefore counter-Galactic, as do the young hot stars in its vicinity, which are thought to feed SgrA* by their winds. High-performance numerical codes are an indispensable tool for hydrogeologists when modeling subsurface flow and transport systems. But as they are written in compiled languages, like C/C++ or Fortran, established software packages are rarely user-friendly, limiting a wider adoption of such tools. OpenGeoSys (OGS), an open-source, finite-element solver for thermo-hydro-mechanical–chemical processes in porous and fractured media, is no exception. Graphical user interfaces may increase usability, but do so at a dramatic reduction of flexibility and are difficult or impossible to integrate into a larger workflow. Python offers an optimal trade-off between these goals by providing a highly flexible, yet comparatively user-friendly environment for software applications. Hence, we introduce ogs5py , a Python-API for the OpenGeoSys 5 scientific modeling package. It provides a fully Python-based representation of an OGS project, a large array of convenience functions for users to interact with OGS and connects OGS to the scientific and computational environment of Python. 相似文献

A numerical investigation of the desaturation process at the argillaceous Tournemire site has been carried out. This desaturation
is initialized by the contact of the saturated rock with the ambient air in excavated openings. The used hydraulical model
is based on the Richards’ approximation for unsaturated one phase flow coupled with the deformation of a porous medium with
anisotropic linearly elastic behavior. In relation to the extent of the desaturated zone around an excavated opening, the
intrinsic permeability and the relative permeability have been identified to be the most important model parameters. The mechanical
deformation process itself, the seasonal influences and the tunnel lining are less important for the formation of the desaturated
zone. The comparison with measured saturation values bares some difficulties but indicates the principle capacity of the applied
finite element codes to simulate the desaturation process. The consideration of seasonal changes in humidity in the ambient
air results in a constantly recurring desaturation–resaturation cycle in the near field of the openings. This seasonally influenced
zone amount 1–2 m and is nearly independent from time and from a variation of model parameters within a reasonable range.
The possibility of material weakening in this zone is of special interest, since claystone is a potential host rock for the
