The energization of charged particles, due to interaction with the ambient electromagnetic turbulence, has a significant influence on the plasma transport in space. The effect of wave-particle interactions on the outflow characteristics of polar wind plasma was investigated. The theoretical model included gravitational acceleration (g), polarization electrostatic field (Ep), and divergence of the geomagnetic field. Within the simulation region (1.7 to 10 earth radii, Re) the ions were assume to be collisionless and the electrons to obey a Boltzmann relation. Profiles of altitude-dependent diffusion coefficients [D⊥ (O+) and D⊥ (H+)] were computed from the wave spectral density (S) observed by the Plasma Wave Instrument (PWI) on board DE-1. The effects of WPI were introduced via a Monte Carlo technique, and an iterative approach was used in order to converge to self-consistent results. The main conclusions of this study were the following. As a result of perpendicular heating, the temperature anisotropy (T| /T⊥) was reduced and even reversed (T| < T⊥) at high altitudes. The O+ velocity distribution function developed a conic shape at high altitudes. The altitudes above which the WPI influences the O+ ions were lower than those for the H+ ions. The escape flux of O+ could be enhanced by more than an order of magnitude while the H+ flux remains constant. The O+ ions are heated more efficiently than the H+ ions, especially at low altitudes due to the 'pressure cooker' effect. As the ions are heated and move to higher altitudes, the ion's Larmor radius a L may become comparable to the perpendicular wavelength λ⊥. As the ratio aL /λ⊥ becomes > 1, the heating rate becomes self-limited and the ion distribution displays toroidal features. This result is consistent with the observation of O+ toroidal distribution in the high altitude ionosphere. Finally, the large variability in the wave spectral density S was studied. This variability was found to change our results only in a quantitative manner, while our conclusions remained qualitatively unchanged. Solutions are derived for the potential distributions over one-layer and two-layer random conductivity earth models for the direct current resistivity method. Monopole and Wenner arrays are considered. It is shown that the random potential due to a spatially stationary Gaussian random conductivity is also Gaussian but not spatially stationary. The ensemble and sample statistics of the random kernel and apparent resistivity are examined. Representative curves of these functions are presented to show the effects of a random conductivity profile on them. It is shown that the effect of the random nature of the conductivity profile on an apparent resistivity sounding curve is greatest for small electrode spacings.  相似文献

Organochlorine compounds (OCs) in surface and core sediments collected from Lake Maryut, Egypt, were examined to elucidate their distribution, ecological risk and historical trend. To our knowledge, this is the first study on residue levels of OCs in sediments from Lake Maryut. Concentrations of PCBs and DDTs were higher than other OCs, ranging from 3.06 to 388 and from 0.07 to 106 ng/g dry wt., respectively. The highest concentrations of OCs were found at stations near the discharge point of sewage and close to industrial areas. The distribution of DDT and its metabolites suggest no recent inputs into the lake environment. Contamination levels of sedimentary PCBs and DDTs, can be categorized moderate to high compared to other urbanized regions worldwide. Temporal trends in OCs levels were influenced by input pathways at two sites. Evaluation of ecotoxicological risks suggests that adverse biological effects are expected mainly in the main basin area.  相似文献

Persistent organochlorine compound concentrations were determined for 23 surface sediment samples collected from Alexandria Harbor, Egypt. Total PCB concentrations ranged from 0.9 to 1210 ng/g with four to seven Cl-substituted biphenyls being the most prevalent PCBs congeners. Different PCB congener distribution patterns were observed, probably reflecting different inputs and attenuation at various locations. Total DDT concentrations varied from <0.25 ng/g to 885 ng/g. The ratios of DDTs (2,4- and 4,4-DDT)/total DDTs (DDTs plus metabolites) in sediment samples from certain sites were 0.86 or higher, indicating little attenuation or recent input of DDT. Total chlordane (the sum of heptachlor and its epoxide, oxy-, γ- and -chlordane and cis+trans-nonachlor) ranged from <0.25 to 44 ng/g with the highest concentration found in the Arsenal Basin. The geographic distributions of PCBs, total DDTs and total chlordane were similar. Chlorinated benzenes (CBs), hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs), aldrin, dieldrin, endrin, chloropyrifos, endosulfan, mirex and pentachloroanisole were below detection limits or detected at low concentrations in most of the samples. Sites that were contaminated with high concentrations of organochlorine compounds were associated with dense population and low energy environment. The contamination levels of PCBs, total DDTs and total chlordane were in high range compared to other locations worldwide.  相似文献

The exceptional ability of dendrimers to coordinate metal ions yields the potential for many applications including wastewater remediation, which is the focus of this study. Here, the comparison of metal ion removal rate from simulated wastewater by generation 4 dendrimers with external hydroxyl functional groups (G4-OH) is evaluated for Ni2+, Fe2+, and Fe3+ ions. Ni2+ to amine complexation occurred more rapidly than Fe3+, which was more rapid than Fe2+ complexation. These results indicate that both charge density and d-electron configuration are important toward the chelation rate. The impact of both factors is discussed in light of existing models in which precursor aquation rates have been proposed as a key intermediate step. Additionally, the application of the dendrimers as chelation agents is further advanced by immobilizing the dendrimer to titania and re-evaluating its chelation ability for Ni2+ removal. The dendrimer immobilization decreased the pseudo-first-order rate coefficient for Ni2+—amine complexation at a pH of 7 by a factor of 7.5. This result is significant as it suggests that mass transfer becomes important following immobilization of the dendrimer to titania.  相似文献

We are considering the spacetime described by the metric proposed by Mannheim and Kazanas. The effective potential and the circular orbits are discussed. The rotational velocity derived from the geodesics equation agrees with the observed flat galactic rotation curves. Finally, solutions to the Gordon equation for massless bosons evolving in this spacetime are obtained in terms of Heun general functions.
