The data obtained for the heights of the relief and the external gravitational field of Venus for spherical harmonics with degree and order up to 18 allow one to start theoretical analysis of the crust-mantle boundary (Venusian Moho) and stress state of the planetary interior. We suppose that Venusian convection is confined by floating massive crust. Apparently the convection in the upper mantle of Venus is separated from that one in the lower mantle and its lateral scale must be essentially smaller than on Earth. So, the convection is reflected to a larger degree of the gravitational field of the planet than for Earth. The spherical harmonic expansion of the topography for Venus correlates with corresponding expansion of the non-equilibrium part of the gravitational potential for n = 3–18. At the same time the relief of Venus is significantly compensated. It is reasonable to suppose that the gravity field for these harmonics is due to crustal thickness variations and, probably, to variations of crustal density. Thus, in the proposed scheme the Moho's relief causes the partial isostatic compensation of the topography. All calculations are carried out for the series of realistic models of Venus taking into consideration an asthenosphere. The asthenosphere is modeled either by a weakened (shear modulus is reduced), or by a liquid inviscid layer. We also suppose that the asthenosphere extends from the base of crust to a depth of 418 km, and the density contrast across the Moho boundary is –0.4 g * cm–3. If the actual density contrast across the Moho is less than the supposed one by some factor, then one must increase the amplitudes of the roots and inverse roots by the same factor. The results for the Moho's relief and stresses in the crust are presented for the case of the mean thickness of the crust of 50 km, which satisfies the probable upper (connected with phase transitions in waterless basalts) and lower (appearing in the framework of our interpretation) limits. On the whole, the crust-mantle boundary on Venus is evidently smooth, and the stress level in the crust is appreciably smaller than the crustal stresses on the Earth. The strong sensitivity of the stresses character to the parameters of the model of external layers of Venus together with geological data allow us to begin a preliminary investigation of the tectonical structure and geodynamics of the planet.'Geology and Tectonics of Venus', special issue edited by Alexander T. Basilevsky (USSR Acad. of Sci. Moscow), James W. Head (Brown University, Providence), Gordon H. Pettengill (MIT, Cambridge, Massachusetts) and R. S. Saunders (J.P.L., Pasadena).  相似文献

Primary magmas at Oldoinyo Lengai: The role of olivine melilitites   总被引:3,自引:1,他引:3
The paper describes olivine melilitites at Oldoinyo Lengai, Tanzania, and from tuff cones from the Tanzanian rift valley in the vicinity of Oldoinyo Lengai. Oldoinyo Lengai is the only active carbonatite volcano and is distinguished by its alkali-rich natrocarbonatites. Lengai is also unique for its extreme peralkaline silicate lavas related directly to the natrocarbonatites. Primitive olivine melilitites are, according to their Mg# and Ni, Cr contents, the only candidates in the Lengai area for primary melt compositions. Incompatible trace elements, including REE, constrain the melting process in their sub-lithospheric sources to very low degrees of partial melting in the garnet stability field. The strong peralkaline trend at Oldoinyo Lengai is already recognisable in these primary or near-primary melts. More evolved olivine melilitites, with Mg# < 60 allow the fractionation line in its major and trace element expressions to be followed. Nevertheless, a large compositional gap separates the olivine melilitites and olivine-poorer melilitites from the phonolites and nephelinites that form the bulk of the Lengai cone. These silicate lavas show a high degree of peralkalinity and are highly evolved with very low Mg, Ni and Cr. Prominent examples of the recent evolution are the combeite–wollastonite nephelinites that are unique for Lengai. In their Sr, Nd, and Pb isotope relationships the olivine melilitites define a distinct group with the most depleted Sr and Nd ratios and the most radiogenic Pb isotopes. They are closest to a supposed HIMU end member of the Lengai evolution, which is characterised by an extreme spread in isotopic ratios, explained as a mixing line between HIMU and EM1-like mantle components.  相似文献

We present the online MultiDark Database – a Virtual Observatory‐oriented, relational database for hosting various cos‐mological simulations. The data is accessible via an SQL (Structured Query Language) query interface, which also allows users to directly pose scientific questions, as shown in a number of examples in this paper. Further examples for the usage of the database are given in its extensive online documentation. The database is based on the same technology as the Millennium Database, a fact that will greatly facilitate the usage of both suites of cosmological simulations. The first release of the MultiDark Database hosts two 8.6 billion particle cosmological N‐body simulations: the Bolshoi (250 h–1 Mpc simulation box, 1 h–1 kpc resolution) and MultiDark Run1 simulation (MDR1, or BigBolshoi, 1000 h–1 Mpc simulation box, 7 h–1 kpc resolution). The extraction methods for halos/subhalos from the raw simulation data, and how this data is structured in the database are explained in this paper. With the first data release, users get full access to halo/subhalo catalogs, various profiles of the halos at redshifts z = 0–15, and raw dark matter data for one time‐step of the Bolshoi and four time‐steps of the MultiDark simulation. Later releases will also include galaxy mock catalogs and additional merger trees for both simulations as well as new large volume simulations with high resolution. This project is further proof of the viability to store and present complex data using relational database technology. We encourage other simulators to publish their results in a similar manner. In our previous papers we have improved the value of the orbital period of the binary Herbig Be star HD 200775 and showed that the [O I] and Si II 6347 and 6371 ?A emission lines displayed variations which correlate with the orbital period. In this paper we provide evidences that other broad emission lines of metals in the spectra of HD 200775 also exhibit variability, which is probably related to the orbital cycle of the binary. Analysis was performed based on the high-resolution spectral data collected over a time span of 6 years at the Kourovka Astronomical Observatory of the Ural Federal University(Russia) and the Three College Observatory of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro(USA) as well as archival spectral data compiled since 1994. We report new data points in the radial velocity curve of the He I 5876 ?A line near the extremal values of the radial velocity.  相似文献
