The Tons Valley, situated in the central-easternmost part of the Himachal Lesser Himalaya, adjoining the Garhwal Himalaya, shows geological features suggestive of a strong pre-Tertiary deformational episode. The Paleoproterozoic Dharagad Group, overlain by the Mesoproterozoic Deoban and Neoproterozoic Simla groups rest as a thrust sheet over the Middle Cambrian Chilar Formation, which occurs as windows and also as tectonic slivers within the thrust sheet designated as the Dharagad Thrust Sheet (DTS). The mineral lineation, inclination of tectonic slivers and overturned beds suggest that the DTS was translated from the NE. The westernmost and southwesternmost leading edges of the DTS are exposed at Subathu and Morni WNW and WSW respectively of the Tons Valley. The position of the leading edges of the DTS vis-à-vis the windows in the Tons Valley suggest a minimum translation of about 50 km for the DTS. The Simla Group at Subathu and the Deoban at Morni, forming parts of the DTS, constitute basement for the Thanetian–Lutetian Subathu Formation of the Himalayan Foreland Basin (HFB). This stratigraphic relationship unambiguously demonstrates that the Simla and the Deoban Groups, forming leading edges of the allochthonous DTS, were already translated and emplaced at Subathu and Morni before the creation of the HFB in which the deposition commenced with the Subathu Formation in Thanetian. It implies that the DTS was translated from the NE to the present position at Subathu and Morni in pre-Thanetian time. There is no direct evidence to constrain the age of the thrusting.In view of regional regression in Late Cambrian, a distinct angular unconformity between the Cambrian and the overlying Ordovician, Early Paleozoic metamorphism and extensive development of Early Paleozoic granites and their rapid exhumation, a Late Cambrian age is suggested for the DTS thrusting. Not only the direction of movement of the DTS is same as that of the Tertiary thrust sheets but also Cambrian folds are co-axial with the Tertiary folds. This strange coincidence shows that similar kinematic field existed during two tectonic events. A ridge, like the present Central Crystalline Axis, was elevated between the Tethyan and Lesser Himalayan basins, which contributed zircons of the Early Cambrian age to both basins.  相似文献

In this work, we propose a novel hydraulic solver in order to simulate key mechanisms that control fluid-driven cracks in the framework of the combined finite-discrete element method (FDEM). The main innovative aspect of the present work is the independence of the fluid's critical time step size with the fracture opening. This advantage is extremely important because it means that very fine meshes can be used around areas of interest, such as boreholes, without penalizing the computational cost as fractures propagate (ie, open) and the fluid flows through them. This is a great advantage over other recently introduced approaches that exhibit a dependency of the time step in the form of Δtcrit ∝ (l/a)2 where l is the element size and a is the fracture aperture. This paper presents a series of benchmark cases for the proposed solver. The rationale adopted by the authors was to benchmark and validate the implementation of the hydraulic solver in an incremental fashion, starting from the simplest cases and building in complexity. The results shown in this work clearly demonstrate that the proposed approach is able to reproduce analytical results for fluid flow through a single crack. The results presented in this paper also demonstrate that the new approach is robust enough to deal with complex fracture patterns and complex geometries; the obtained fluid-driven fracture patterns in the vicinity of a borehole certainly stand to the scrutiny of human visual perception.  相似文献

In this article we report the peculiar oscillations in the intensity of microwave (4.15 GHz) emission seen during the impact of K fragment of comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 on July 19, 1994. The oscillations begin at 10h 13m 25s UT suddenly with a frequency of ~0.3 Hz and gradually the frequency of these oscillations increases to ~ 1 Hz. The oscillations are not due to local atmosphere or the radio interference from signals of geostationary satellite. They are intrinsic to the microwave emission from Jupiter during the impact of K fragment. Peak-to-peak amplitude of the oscillations is about 34% of the total microwave emission from Jupiter. If we assume that only 50% of the microwave emission is non-thermal and only the non-thermal emission suffered oscillations, then the oscillations are about 68% of the non-thermal emission from Jupiter. The observations also indicate that there are three continuum enhancements during this event and periodic oscillations almost all through. The third enhancement was the largest and during this enhancement there were some additional aperiodic variations. The aperiodic variations were of the order of few minutes and were possibly generated by the gravity waves. The periodic oscillations could be synchrotron emission modulated by the plasma oscillation in the outer magnetosphere. kg]Key words  相似文献

Lateritic covers developed during the Pleistocene in two distinct areas (Gentio do Ouro District and Sento Sé) of the State of Bahia, Brazil, have been investigated geochemically. Samples of the bedrock (gabbros, from the Gentio do Ouro District, and silicate facies iron formation and associated iron-rich banded carbonates, from the Sento Sé Area) and the lateritic products (latosols, cuirasses and pisolites) were analyzed for major and selected trace elements (Co, Cu, Cr, Ni, V, Pb, Ba, Au and ree). The purpose of the research was to study the geochemical evolution of the laterites and the relationship of weathering processes to secondary gold mineralization.Four types of element mobilities are recognized, defined by progressive depletion (type A) or enrichment (type C) in the sequence latosol-cuirasse-pisolite or by extreme enrichment (type B) or depletion (type D) in the cuirasse. Cr and V have similar behavior (type C), whatever the type of parent rock: however, when the original rocks are gabbros, Co, Cu and Ni demonstrate behavior A, B and A, respectively. Also Ti has the same type of mobility (type A), whatever the type of parent rock.The concentrations of some residual elements, e.g., Ti, V, Mn, Fe and Au, are inherited from the original rocks, that is, they exhibit higher values in the lateritic materials on parent rocks in which their contents are high.The enrichment of ree in the lateritic materials on iron-rich carbonates is attributed to relatively basic and reducing conditions at depth. This environment allowed the ions of these elements (Ce, Sm, Eu and Yb in the reduced ionic form) to stay in solution along with Fe2+. At shallow depht, under oxidizing conditions, the iron oxyhydroxides adsorbed the ree ions. This adsorption was more effective for La, Ce and Yb ions.The ree contents in the lateritic products from gabbros indicate a depletion of hree plus Eu, Nd and Sm are also depleted in cuirasses and Ce is depleted in pisolites. The loss of these ree and the slight concentration of lree in the red latosol of the Gentio do Ouro District are attributed to partial leaching of ree by a relatively acidic solution. The adsorption of ree by iron oxyhydroxides was less intense here than in the weathering of the iron-rich carbonates at Sento Sé Area. It was also more effective for La and Ce (ions). This type of weathering solution may be generated from oxidation of the accessory pyrite present in the gabbros of the Gentio do Ouro District. It may dissolve primary gold which then precipitates on encountering basic conditions at depth.  相似文献

The results presented in this paper shows that high concentrations of sodium hydroxide causes abnormal changes on the volume change behaviour of illite–smectite (interstratified mineral) soil due to mineralogical changes. The higher swell that occurs is shown in the form of a new second stage of swelling. Increase in negative charges on soil particles and mineralogical changes after interaction with soil, respectively, are responsible for the swelling in these two stages. However, potassium hydroxide does not induce such high swelling in soils. This is mainly due to the fixation of potassium ions. Hence an attempt has been made to control the swelling induced by sodium hydroxide by making used of potassium chloride as an additive. Potassium fixation which is not substantial at neutral pH is favoured at higher pH Addition of potassium chloride salt solution (as 2 and 5% solution) can reduce only the first stage of swelling by linking the unit layers of mineral by reducing development diffuse double layer near clay surface. Potassium chloride is unable to prevent the formation of mineralogical alteration due to soil alkali interaction and hence the swelling associated with mineralogical changes. X-ray diffraction studies have revealed that mineralogical changes leading to formation of zeolite by soil alkali interaction is not inhibited by potassium ions. Morphological changes studied by scanning electron microscope corroborate these observations. Also the compressibility of soil which is increased in alkali solution is reduced in the presence of potassium salts. This reduction is due to reduction in the first stage of swelling.  相似文献

Summary The general problem of Love wave propagation, in a medium with cylindrical anisotropy of hexagonal type, is formulated. The method of seperation of variables is applied to examine the possibility of obtaining formal solutions for different types of inhomogeneities present in the medium. It is found that when the elastic parameters (C 44 and ) are functions of bothv and the equation of motion is not separable. The use of the technique is illustrated, by considering radial inhomogeneity in an anisotropic cylindrical crustal layer, for obtaining the characteristic frequency equation of Love waves in such a medium.  相似文献

Summary An analysis is carried out of the Love wave propagation in a system consisting of an anisotropic, inhomogeneous layer bounded on either side by homogeneous, isotropic solid halfspaces. The period equation is obtained, which incorporates in it the effects of a typical variation of directional rigidities and density in the layer on dispersive properties of the Love waves. The conditions for the existence of the real roots of the frequency equation is brought out in the form of limits on phase velocity values. Corresponding to these values, the frequency equation is discussed in different wave length ranges. Numerical computation is done to analyse the variation of (i) Phase and Group velocity and (ii) Amplitudes (at different depths), with wave number. Conclusions on the significant results follow in the end.  相似文献

Using a laboratory gamma-ray spectrometer, 160 rock samples from different heat flow sites in India have been analysed for their U, Th and K contents. Heat generation has been estimated for the significant rock types. Of the six regions covered by this study, correction due to heat generation contrast and geologic structure was found necessary and has been applied in two regions. Heat flow/heat generation plots for two regions in the southernmost part of the shield follow the line characteristic of a normal continental heat flow province. The plots for the other four regions indicate a heat flow province with an intercept of 0.92 HFU and a slope of 14.8 km. From data available at present, these parameters are higher compared to those from the other shields. The higher parameters imply a higher temperature and heat flow at the Moho, indicating a region of “hotter” upper mantle in the Indian shield.  相似文献
