The Astrophysics Data System (ADS) provides access to the astronomical literature through the World Wide Web. It is a NASA funded project and access to all the ADS services is free to everybody world-wide. The ADS Abstract Service allows the searching of four databases with abstracts in Astronomy, Instrumentation, Physics/Geophysics, and the LANL Preprints with a total of over 2.2 million references. The system also provides access to reference and citation information, links to on-line data, electronic journal articles, and other on-line information. The ADS Article Service contains the full articles for most of the astronomical literature back to volume 1. It contains the scanned pages of all the major journals (Astrophysical Journal, Astronomical Journal, Astronomy & Astrophysics, Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, and Solar Physics), as well as most smaller journals back to volume 1.The ADS can be accessed through any web browser without signup or login. Alternatively an email interface is available that allows our users to execute queries via email and to retrieve scanned articles via email. This might be interesting for users on slow or unreliable links, since the email system will retry sending information automatically until the transfer is complete. There are now 9 mirror sites of the ADS available in different parts of the world to improve access. In the eastern Mediterranean in general and in Turkey in particular, temperature reconstructions based on tree rings have not been achieved so far. Furthermore, centennial-long chronologies of stable isotopes are generally also missing. Recent studies have identified the tree species Juniperus excelsa as one of the most promising tree species in Turkey for developing long climate sensitive stable carbon isotope chronologies because this species is long-living and thus has the ability to capture low-frequency climate signals. We were able to develop a statistically robust, precisely dated and annually resolved chronology back to AD 1125. We proved that variability of δ13C in tree rings of J. excelsa is mainly dependent on winter-to-spring temperatures (January–May). Low-frequency trends, which were associated with the medieval warm period and the little ice age, were identified in the winter-to-spring temperature reconstruction, however, the twentieth century warming trend found elsewhere could not be identified in our proxy record, nor was it found in the corresponding meteorological data used for our study. Comparisons with other northern-hemispherical proxy data showed that similar low-frequency signals are present until the beginning of the twentieth century when the other proxies derived from further north indicate a significant warming while the winter-to-spring temperature proxy from SW-Turkey does not. Correlation analyses including our temperature reconstruction and seven well-known climate indices suggest that various atmospheric oscillation patterns are capable of influencing the temperature variations in SW-Turkey.  相似文献

The Astrophysics Data System (ADS) is a distributed data system that provides access to astronomical data and literature information. The data are stored at different data centers. They are searched and retrieved by the users in real time over the Internet The ADS provides access to about 300 catalogs and 4 data archives. In addition about 160,000 abstracts from the astronomical literature can be searched. Besides the data access the ADS provides services such as plotting and image display tools, coordinate conversion tools and table manipulation capabilities. The ADS is available for free to users interested in astronomical data worldwide. Currently there are no restrictions to accessing any of the data in the ADS.  相似文献

Milke et al. (Contrib Mineral Petrol 142:15–26, 2001) studied the diffusion of Si, Mg and O in synthetic polycrystalline enstatite reaction rims. The reaction rims were grown at 1,000°C and 1 GPa at the contacts between forsterite grains with normal isotopic compositions and a quartz matrix extremely enriched in 18O and 29Si. The enstatite reaction rim grew from the original quartz-forsterite interface in both directions producing an inner portion, which replaced forsterite and an outer portion, which replaced quartz. Here we present new support for this statement, as the two portions of the rim are clearly distinguished based on crystal orientation mapping using electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). Milke et al. (Contrib Mineral Petrol 142:15–26, 2001) used the formalism of LeClaire (J Appl Phys 14:351–356, 1963) to derive the coefficient of silicon grain boundary diffusion from stable isotope profiles across the reaction rims. LeClaires formalism is designed for grain boundary tracer diffusion into an infinite half space with fixed geometry. A fixed geometry is an undesired limitation in the context of rim growth. We suggest an alternative model, which accounts for simultaneous layer growth and superimposed silicon and oxygen self diffusion. The effective silicon bulk diffusivity obtained from our model is approximately equal within both portions of the enstatite reaction rim: D Si,En eff =1.0–4.3×10–16 m2 s–1. The effective oxygen diffusion is relatively slow in the inner portion of the reaction rim, D O,En eff =0.8–1.4×10–16 m2 s–1, and comparatively fast, D O,En eff =5.9–11.6×10–16 m2 s–1, in its outer portion. Microstructural evidence suggests that transient porosity and small amounts of fluid were concentrated at the quartz-enstatite interface during rim growth. This leads us to suspect that the presence of an aqueous fluid accelerated oxygen diffusion in the outer portion of the reaction rim. In contrast, silica diffusion does not appear to have been affected by the spatial variation in the availability of an aqueous fluid.

U-Pb SHRIMP dating of zircons of metamagmatites from the Bayerischer Wald (Germany) reveals a complex evolution of this section of the Moldanubian Zone exposed in the western Bohemian Massif of the central European Variscan belt. In the south-western part of the Bayerischer Wald Upper Vendian magmatism is constrained by pooled 206Pb/238U mean ages of 555±12, 549±7 and 549±6 Ma from metarhyolites and a metabasite. Inherited zircon cores were not observed. Zircon overgrowths, yielding pooled 206Pb/238U ages of 316±10 and 319±5 Ma, provide evidence for Variscan metamorphic zircon growth; cathodoluminescence imaging reveals a two-stage metamorphic overprint.In contrast, Lower Ordovician magmatism and anatexis are documented in the north-eastern parts of the Bayerischer Wald by metagranitoids (480±6, 486±7 Ma), an eclogitic metabasite (481±8 Ma) and a leucosome (491 to 457 Ma). Inherited zircon cores are found in Lower Ordovician metagranitoids and the leucosome, indicating a Palaeoproterozoic-Archaean (ca. 2.7, 2.0 Ga) source region, presumably of Gondwana affinity (West African craton), and documenting Cadomian magmatism (ca. 640 Ma). Post-Cadomian metamorphism is inferred from concordant ages of 433±4 and 431±7 Ma.Upper Vendian magmatism is assumed at an active continental margin with ensialic back-arc development (εNd(t) –3.01 to +1.22); the lack of inherited zircon is due to either derivation from juvenile (?volcanic arc) material or complete isotopic resetting of pre-existing zircon. An active continental margin setting, possibly with some lateral variation (accretion/collision) is envisaged for the Lower Ordovician, producing granitoids, rhyolites and leucosomes (εNd(t) -0.5 to -6.27); MORB-type metabasites may be related to ZEV or Mariánské Lázně Complex metabasites. A tentative palaeogeographic reconstruction puts the “Bayerischer Wald” in close relationship with the Habach terrane (proto-Alps), as the “eastern” extension of terranes of the northern Gondwana margin.  相似文献

Australian climate-proxy reconstructions based on tree rings from tropical and subtropical forests have not been achieved so far due to the rarity of species producing anatomically distinct annual growth rings. Our study identifies the Australian Red Cedar (Toona ciliata) as one of the most promising tree species for tree-ring research in Australasia because this species exhibits distinct annual tree rings, a prerequisite for high quality tropical dendroclimatology. Based on these preliminary studies, we were able, for the first time in subtropical and tropical Australia, to develop a statistically robust, precisely dated and annually resolved chronology back to AD1854. We show that the variability in ring widths of T. ciliata is mainly dependent on annual precipitation. The developed proxy data series contains both high- and low-frequency climate signals which can be associated with the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and the Interdecadal Pacific Oscillation (IPO). A comparison of different data sets (Brisbane precipitation, tree rings, coral luminescence record from the Great Barrier Reef, ENSO and IPO) revealed non-stationary correlation patterns throughout the twentieth century but little instability between the new tree-ring chronology and Brisbane precipitation.  相似文献
