The general theory exposed in the first part of this paper is applied to the following resonances with Jupiter's motion : 3/2, 2/1, 5/2, 3/1, 7/2, 4/1; these are the most relevant resonances for the asteroids. The whole analysis is performed in the framework of the spatial problem of three bodies, both in the circular and in the elliptic case. The saturated hydraulic conductivity, Ks, is a soil property that has a key role in the partitioning of rainfall into surface runoff and infiltration. The commonly used instruments and methods for in situ measurements of Ks have frequently provided conflicting results. Comparison of Ks estimates obtained by three classical devices—namely, the double ring infiltrometer (DRI), the Guelph version of the constant‐head well permeameter (GUELPH‐CHP) and the CSIRO version of the tension permeameter (CSIRO‐TP) is presented. A distinguishing feature in this study is the use of steady deep flow rates, obtained from controlled rainfall–runoff experiments, as benchmark values of Ks at local and field‐plot scales, thereby enabling an assessment of these methods in reliably reproducing repeatable values and in their capability of determining plot‐scale variation of Ks. We find that the DRI grossly overestimates Ks, the GUELPH‐CHP gives conflicting estimates of Ks with substantial overestimation in laboratory experiments and underestimation at the plot scale, whereas the CSIRO‐TP yields average Ks values with significant errors of 24% in the plot scale experiment and 66% in laboratory experiments. Although the DRI would likely yield a better estimate of the nature of variability than the GUELPH‐CHP and CSIRO‐TP, a separate calibration may be warranted to correct for the overestimation of Ks values. The reasons for such discrepancies within and between the measurement methods are not yet fully understood and serve as motivation for future work to better characterize the uncertainty associated with individual measurements of Ks using these methods and the characterization of field scale variability from multiple local measurements.  相似文献

It is well known that asteroid families have steeper absolute magnitude (H) distributions for H < 12-13 values than the background population. Beyond this threshold, the shapes of the absolute magnitude distributions in the family/background populations are difficult to determine, primarily because both populations are not yet observationally complete. Using a recently generated catalog containing the proper elements of 106,284 main belt asteroids and an innovative approach, we debiased the absolute magnitude distribution of the major asteroid families relative to the local background populations. Our results indicate that the magnitude distributions of asteroid families are generally not steeper than those of the local background populations for H > 13 (i.e., roughly for diameters smaller than 10 km). In particular, most families have shallower magnitude distributions than the background in the range 15-17 mag. Thus, we conclude that, contrary to previous speculations, the population of kilometer-size asteroids in the main belt is dominated by background bodies rather than by members of the most prominent asteroid families. We believe this result explains why the Spacewatch, Sloan Digital Sky Survey, and Subaru asteroid surveys all derived a shallow magnitude distribution for the dimmer members of the main belt population.We speculate on a few dynamical and collisional scenarios that can explain this shallow distribution. One possibility is that the original magnitude distributions of the families (i.e., at the moment of the formation event) were very shallow for H larger than ∼ 13, and that most families have not yet had the time to collisionally evolve to the equilibrium magnitude distribution that presumably characterizes the background population. A second possibility is that family members smaller than about 10 km, eroded over time by collisional and dynamical processes, have not yet been repopulated by the break-up of larger family members. For this same reason, the older (and possibly characterized by a weaker impact strength) background population shows a shallow distribution in the range 15-60 km.  相似文献

Two models for estimating expected areal‐average infiltration rate, ī, at the hillslope scale are presented. The first relies upon the condition of a negligible infiltration of surface water running downslope (run‐on process) into a previous heterogeneous soil. It is an adapted version of an earlier semi‐analytical model. The second incorporates the run‐on process and is based on a lumped approach that uses an effective saturated hydraulic conductivity. This latter was parameterized in terms of the main characteristics of rainfall and soil. Both the models were tested by comparison with the results carried out by Monte‐Carlo simulations over different soil types. It was found that the first model simulated ī with maximum errors in magnitude typically less than 10%. The second model provided similar errors in the total volume of overland flow, and the rising limb of the hydrograph experienced a distortion. Lastly, satisfactory results were obtained by comparing the model without run‐on with an empirical approach particularly accurate for fine‐textured soils. Summary The present poster shows the main researches conduced at the Astronomical Observatory of Torino during this last decade in the field of the wide double stars. From the observational point of view, two different photographic techniques carried out with our 105 cm astrometric reflector over a selected sample of wide binaries are explained. With reference to the Hipparcos mission, we show two aspects of our collaboration with the INCA and FAST Consortiums. From the statistical point of view, a study concerning the systematic and accidental errors detected in visual double star observations is explained. We conclude the poster with the future foreseen researches concerning new observational techniques and new theoretical statistical studies on these wide objects.  相似文献

We study the population of faint Jupiter family comets (JFCs) that approach the Earth (perihelion distances q<1.3 AU) by applying a debiasing technique to the observed sample. We found for the debiased cumulative luminosity function (CLF) of absolute total magnitudes H10 a bimodal distribution in which brighter comets (H10?9) follow a linear relation with a steep slope α=0.65±0.14, while fainter comets follow a much shallower slope α=0.25±0.06 down to H10∼18. The slope can be pushed up to α=0.35±0.09 if a second break in the H10 distribution to a much shallower slope is introduced at H10∼16. We estimate a population of about 103 faint JFCs with q<1.3 AU and 10<H10<15 (radii ∼0.1-0.5 km). The shallowness of the CLF for faint near-Earth JFCs may be explained either as: (i) the source population (the scattered disk) has an equally very shallow distribution in the considered size range, or (ii) the distribution is flattened by the disintegration of small objects before that they have a chance of being observed. The fact that the slope of the magnitude distribution of the faint active JFCs is very similar to that found for a sample of dormant JFCs candidates suggests that for a surviving (i.e., not disintegrated) object, the probability of becoming dormant versus keeping some activity is roughly size independent.  相似文献

Abstract— 1996 FG3 is a binary near‐Earth object (NEO) that was likely formed during a tidal disruption event. Our results indicate that the formation of this binary object was unlikely to have occurred when the progenitor had a encounter velocity with the Earth significantly smaller than its current value (10.7 km/s); The formation of the binary object on an orbit similar to the present one is possible, and the survival of the satellite constrains this to have happened less than 1.6 Ma ago. However, the binary object could also have been formed when the progenitor's encounter velocity with Earth was >12 km/s, and in this case we cannot constrain its formation age. Our results indicate that tidal disruptions occurring among NEOs with low velocity encounters with Earth are unlikely to produce long‐lasting NEO binaries. Thus, tidal disruption may not be able to completely re‐supply the observed population. This would imply that a significant fraction of the observed NEO binaries evolved out of the main asteroid belt. Overall, our results suggest to us that the CM2 meteorites having cosmic ray exposure (CRE) ages of ?200,000 yr were likely liberated by the tidal disruption of a primitive NEO with a relative velocity with the Earth significantly smaller than that of 1996 FG3. We propose a list of such objects, although as far as we know, none of the candidates is a binary for the reasons described above.  相似文献

The Ipanema alkaline-carbonatitic complex is part of the Meso-Cenozoic alkaline magmatism located within the southeastern part of the Brazilian Platform. Drill-core and field sampling have indicated the occurrence of glimmerites, with subordinate shonkinites (mela-syenites), clinopyroxene-bearing glimmerites, diorites and syenites. The glimmerites are cross-cut by lamprophyric dykes and calciocarbonatites. Fenitization has deeply affected the country rocks, originating dioritic and syenitic rocks. The Ipanema rocks show a distinct potassic affinity. The initial Sr-Nd- isotopic composition of the Ipanema rocks (87Sr/86Sr?=?0.70661–0.70754 and 143Nd/144Nd?=?0.51169–0.51181) is similar to that of tholeiitic and potassium-rich-alkaline rocks of the Eastern Paraguay. Stable isotope data for the Ipanema calciocarbonatite suggest interaction with fluids at temperatures typical of hydrothermal stages, as hypothesized for other carbonatite complexes from southeastern Brazil. The chemical differences between the lamprophyre, glimmerites, carbonatites, apatitites and magnetitites, and the absence of marked REE enrichment in the evolved lithologies, all indicate that fractional crystallization and accumulus of liquidus phases in a magma reservoir, likely coupled with liquid immiscibility processes, may have played an important role in the genesis of the Ipanema rocks.  相似文献
