This study is based on ground-based measurements of downward surface shortwave irradiance (SW), columnar water vapour (wv), and aerosol optical depth (τ) obtained at Thule Air Base (Greenland) in 2007–2010, together with MODIS observations of the surface shortwave albedo (A). Radiative transfer model calculations are used in combination with measurements to separate the radiative effect of A (ΔSWA), wv (ΔSWwv), and aerosols (ΔSWτ) in modulating SW in cloud-free conditions. The shortwave radiation at the surface is mainly affected by water vapour absorption, which produces a reduction of SW as low as ?100 Wm?2 (?18%). The seasonal change of A produces an increase of SW by up to +25 Wm?2 (+4.5%). The annual mean radiative effect is estimated to be ?(21–22) Wm?2 for wv, and +(2–3) Wm?2 for A. An increase by +0.065 cm in the annual mean wv, to which corresponds an absolute increase in ΔSWwv by 0.93 Wm?2 (4.3%), has been observed to occur between 2007 and 2010. In the same period, the annual mean A has decreased by ?0.027, with a corresponding decrease in ΔSWA by 0.41 Wm?2 (?14.9%). Atmospheric aerosols produce a reduction of SW as low as ?32 Wm?2 (?6.7%). The instantaneous aerosol radiative forcing (RFτ) reaches values of ?28 Wm?2 and shows a strong dependency on surface albedo. The derived radiative forcing efficiency (FEτ) for solar zenith angles between 55° and 70° is estimated to be (?120.6 ± 4.3) for 0.1 < A < 0.2, and (?41.2 ± 1.6) Wm?2 for 0.5 < A < 0.6. 相似文献

40Ar-39Ar and Rb-Sr ages have been measured on separated minerals from the potassic volcanics of the Roman Comagmatic Region to test the ability of these methods to accurately data Quaternary geological events. The very high K and Rb contents of the Roman magmas present particularly favorable situations in which the very high concentrations of the radioactive nuclides40K and87Rb result in well resolved in situ enrichments of the daughter isotopes despite the very young ages. Six leucite separates contained Ar with very high bulk40/36 ratios (above 1000) and in which the40Ar and the39Ar were very well correlated, yielding well-defined ages averaging3.38±0.08×105 years. Two leucites contained Ar with lower bulk40/36 ratios (~400), and in at least two release steps from these leucites the40Ar/36Ar ratio was significantly lower than atmospheric. Despite the uncertainty in the composition of the trapped component, these two leucites have ages that do not differ significantly from the ages of the other leucites. For the biotites, it was not possible to obtain through stepwise degassing a good separation of in situ radiogenic40Ar from trapped40Ar and therefore the calculated ages are not as precise as those of the leucites. In three cases the biotite age agrees with the age of the cogenetic leucite, but in the remaining two cases discordant ages are obtained, suggesting caution when using biotites as Quaternary age indicators.Rb-Sr measurements on leucite, biotite, and pyroxene separates hand-picked from each of three tuff samples yielded a dispersion in87Sr/86Sr as large as 16 parts in 104 and87Rb/86Sr as high as 218 for leucites, and permitted the determination of internal isochron ages. The ages obtained range from3.8±0.2×105to3.3±0.2×105 years and are in good agreement with the40Ar-39Ar ages on the leucites. The data for each tuff sample yield a well-defined uniform initial87Sr/86Sr. However, different tuffs show small differences in initial87Sr/86Sr pointing to distinct sources or to assimilation of different materials during the extrusion of the tuffs. These measurements demonstrate the possibility of dating Quaternary materials by both the40Ar-39Ar method and the Rb-Sr method. The observation of concordant ages with a precision of a few percent represents a powerful tool in Quaternary stratigraphy. 相似文献

Rb-Sr and K-Ar ages have been obtained on six biotites, two muscovites and one hornblende from samples of micaschist, gneiss and amphibolite of Lower Paleozoic to Precambrian age at a depth exceeding 2,000 m in basement rocks of the Larderello-Travale geothermal region. Most of the data cluster in the range 2.5–3.7 Ma, revealing the existence of a Pliocene thermal event to which the origin of the field may be attributed. The resulting duration of the Larderello geothermal field is unexpectedly long. In the basement levels of the two wells examined, unstabilized minimum temperatures of 290° and 380° C were measured. All the biotites show almost complete 40Ar and 87Sr retention at the measured well temperatures. Petrologic evidence (stilpnomelane stability) and experimental data (activation energies and diffusion coefficients) also favour a closure temperature above 400° C for Rb-Sr and K-Ar in biotites, in agreement with recent direct experimental determinations.For the last 3 Ma mean geothermal gradients of 120°–150° C/km have been evaluated in the first 2–3 km, and 60°–65° C/km in the underlying 2 km. A rough estimate of total cooling in the last 3 Ma gives a value of 120° C at 2,500 m depth and 50° C at 4,000 m depth in Sasso 22 well. The eastern Tunisian Atlas shows major subsurface faults: the Kairouan–Sousse Fault (FKS), to the north, and the El Hdadja fault (FEH), to the south. The FKS is an inherited structural trend active since Late Cretaceous times. This fault is an eastern splay of the Chérichira–Labeïd fault. It separates a large northern diapiric structure (Ktifa Diapir) from a subsident domain (the Kairouan–El Hdadja rim-syncline), with a pull-apart configuration to the south. The latter area, which appears to be an inherited weakness zone at the range border, has recorded a series of tectonic events that characterizes the Alpine structural development in Tunisia.
