Summary A one-dimensional chemistry-boundary layer model was used to study the effects of differing representations of atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) processes on simulated concentrations of passive and chemically reactive tracers. Two local- and two nonlocal-closure ABL schemes were used to perform numerical simulations during convective conditions in the ABL. Observational data from the First International Statellite Land Surface Climatology Project (ISLSCP) Field Experiment (FIFE) were used to provide initial meteorological conditions while representative chemical concentrations and surface and elevated emission rates were used to provide initial chemical conditions and chemical sources to the one-dimensional model. Two sets of numerical simulations were performed using the four ABL schemes. The first set simulated bottom-to-top mixing characteristics, and the second set simulated top-to-bottom mixing characteristics. Model simulations were performed for 12h starting from 0700LT 11 July 1987.Our analysis indicate that the simulated concentrations of both passive and reactive chemical species were sensitive to the type of ABL scheme used to represent turbulent mixing processes. Characteristic features associated with each scheme (e.g., growth and intensity of mixing in the ABL) contributed to the differences among the simulated species concentrations. For some of the chemical species these differences were large, particularly in the surface layer and in the interfacial layers of the ABL. In turn, differences caused by the differing mixing representations resulted in different chemical production/destruction rates. As a consequence, the simulated species concentrations differed among the simulations. We also found that chemical species concentrations were more sensitive to the type of ABL scheme in the bottom-to-top mixing simulations than in the top-to-bottom simulations.With 10 Figures  相似文献

The Miduk porphyry copper deposit is located in Kerman province, 85 km northwest of the Sar Cheshmeh porphyry copper deposit, Iran. The deposit is hosted by Eocene volcanic rocks of andesitic–basaltic composition. The porphyry‐type mineralization is associated with two Miocene calc‐alkaline intrusive phases (P1 and P2, respectively). Five hypogene alteration zones are distinguished at the Miduk deposit, including magnetite‐rich potassic, potassic, potassic–phyllic, phyllic and propylitic. Mineralization occurs as stockwork, dissemination and nine generations (magnetite, quartz–magnetite, barren quartz, quartz‐magnetite‐chalcopyrite‐anhydrite, chalcopyrite–anhydrite, quartz‐chalcopyrite‐anhydrite‐pyrite, quartz‐molybdenite‐anhydrite ± chalcopyrite ± magnetite, pyrite, and quartz‐pyrite‐anhydrite ± sericite) of veinlets and veins. Early stages of mineralization consist of magnetite rich veins in the deepest part of the deposit and the main stage of mineralization contains chalcopyrite, magnetite and anhydrite in the potassic zone. The high intensity of mineralization is associated with P2 porphyry (Miduk porphyry). Based on petrography, mineralogy, alteration halos and geochemistry, the Miduk porphyry copper deposit is similar to those of continental arc setting porphyry copper deposits. The Re‐Os molybdenite dates provide the timing of sulfide mineralization at 12.23 ± 0.07 Ma, coincident with U/Pb zircon ages of the P2 porphyry. This evidence indicates a direct genetic relationship between the Miduk porphyry stock and molybdenite mineralization. The Re‐Os age of the Miduk deposit marks the main stage of magmatism and porphyry copper formation in the Central Iranian volcano‐plutonic belt.  相似文献

From the recent work of the Evolution and Seismic Tools Activity (ESTA: Monteiro et al., ESA, SP-1306, 363 – 371, 2006 and Lebreton et al., Astrophys. Space Sci. 316, 1 – 12, 2008), whose Task 2 is devoted to comparing pulsational frequencies computed using most of the pulsational codes available in the asteroseismic community, the dependence of the theoretical frequencies on non-physical choices is now quite well specified. To ensure that the accuracy of the computed frequencies is of the same order of magnitude or better than the observational errors, some requirements in the equilibrium models and the numerical resolutions of the pulsational equations must be followed. In particular, we have verified the numerical accuracy obtained with the Saclay seismic model, which is used to study the solar g-mode region (60 to 140 μHz). We have compared the results coming from the Aarhus adiabatic pulsation code (ADIPLS), with the frequencies computed with the Granada Code (GraCo) taking into account several possible non-physical choices and the effect of using two different outer mechanical boundary conditions. We have concluded that the present equilibrium models and the use of the Richardson extrapolation ensure an accuracy of the order of 0.01 μHz in the determination of the frequencies, which is quite enough for our purposes.  相似文献

The Vempalle Formation of the Proterozoic Cuddapah basin has a well developed sequence of carbonate rocks, which are interbedded with shales, siltstones and chert. The stromatolitic carbonates are conspicuous at many places but the oolitic carbonates are less prominent and are present only in some areas. All the carbonates are pervasively dolomitized. Petrographic examination of these carbonates revealed that they are predominantly made up of fine grained micrite with patchy development of sparite and chert/quartz. The stromatolitic carbonates show distinct banding of alternate carbonate and cherty layers. The latter are rich in organic matter indicating prevalence of profuse biogenic activity. The oolitic carbonates comprise of ooids showing both concentric and radial patterns and made up of carbonate/chert and cemented by micro/mega quartz or carbonate itself. Diagenetic and post depositional features are reflected in cementation, recrystallization, compaction, stylolite formation and silicification processes. Various stages of cementing material are observed. Secondary vein fillings of carbonate or quartz traverse the carbonate/cherty groundmass. Intraclasts present suggest occasional erosional destruction of associated sediments, short lived transport and local redeposition. Accessory silicate minerals represent terrigenous influx during deposition. Dolomitization of the carbonates was fabric retentive and early diagenetic. The environmental conditions were characterised by low energy, within a shallow water zone, in occasional higher energy events and turbulence. The carbonates appear to have been deposited on a shallow water ramp within a tidal regime.  相似文献

The Lavrion ore district contains carbonate-replacement and vein-type Pb–Zn–Ag deposits as well as low-grade porphyry Mo, Cu–Fe skarn, and minor breccia-hosted Pb–Zn–Cu sulfide mineralization. These ore types are spatially related to a Late Miocene granodiorite intrusion (7 to 10 Ma), and various sills and dikes of mafic to felsic composition. Samples of sphalerite and pyrite from the Ilarion carbonate replacement deposit, and galena from Vein 80 (vein-type mineralization) in the Adami deposit show heterogeneous Re–Os values. These values were partially disturbed by hydrothermal activity associated with the formation of hydrothermal veins (e.g., Vein 80). A plot of initial 187Os/188Os versus 1/Oscommon ratios for pyrite and sphalerite from the Ilarion deposit form a mixing line (r2?=?0.78) between high concentration crustal-like and low concentration mantle-like end-members, or two crustal end-members one of which was more radiogenic than the other. Based on the Re–Os systematics and previously published geological and geochemical evidence, the most plausible explanation for the Re–Os isotope data is that ore-forming components were derived from mixed sources, one of which was a radiogenic crustal source from schists and carbonates probably near intrusion centers and the other, intrusive rocks in the district that are less radiogenic. Although the Re and Os concentrations of galena from Vein 80 are above background values they cannot be used as a chronometer. However, the results of the current study suggest that although pyrite, sphalerite, and galena are poor geochronometers in this ore deposit, due to partial open-system behavior, they still yield valuable information on the origin of the source rocks in the formation of bedded replacement and vein mineralization in the Lavrion district.  相似文献

We examine the recent report by Prochter et al. that gamma-ray burst (GRB) sight lines have a much higher incidence of strong Mg II absorption than quasar sight lines. We propose that the discrepancy is due to the different beam sizes of GRBs and quasars, and that the intervening Mg II systems are clumpy with the dense part of each cloudlet of a similar size as the quasars, i.e. ≲1016 cm, but bigger than GRBs. We also discuss observational predictions of our proposed model. Most notably, in some cases the intervening Mg II absorbers in GRB spectra should be seen varying, and quasars with smaller sizes should show an increased rate of strong Mg II absorbers. In fact, our prediction of variable Mg II lines in the GRB spectra has been now confirmed by Hao et al., who observed intervening Fe II and Mg II lines at z=1.48 to be strongly variable in the multi-epoch spectra of z=4.05 GRB 060206.  相似文献

The surface layers of the Bay of Bengal along the east coast of India exhibit intricate stratification owing to the differential distribution of freshwaters. The winter (January–February) cooling of the salinity-induced stable layers results in the development of thermal inversions that deteriorate toward the end of the season. The study focuses on the behavior of the thermal inversions in the light of the variable stratification and the monsoon imposed reversing coastal current. To address the associated processes, a three-dimensional Princeton Ocean Model is applied for the east coast of India, and numerical experiments carried out to study the means by which the thermal inversions tend to perish with the passage of winter. The model domain with variable curvilinear grid uses input fields that comprise realistic bathymetry and initial temperature/salinity conforming to winter/specified stratification. The surface forcing comprises wind stress and diurnal pattern air–sea heat fluxes. The body forcing is derived from the periodic tidal elevations at the open boundaries. It has been found that the thermal inversions tend to sustain as the equator-ward flowing East India Coastal Current (EICC) traps the cool low saline waters between Paradip and Kakinada. The current off Paradip is weak and variable and is not a part of EICC. Consequently, in the absence of replenishment of cool and freshsurface waters, the temperature/salinity gradients get eroded steadily. No thermal inversions are noticed south of Kakinada because of relatively weak current with diminished vertical salinity gradient. As the nature of stratification encountered in the bay is highly variable due to diverse reasons, the behavior of internal waves under different stratification scenarios is also addressed. Numerical experiments indicate that the energy/amplitude of the internal waves are comparable in the surface layers for any stratification, where as it is certain orders exalted in the deeper waters of the strong stratification scenario. Further, it is found that the energies and pattern of the temperature oscillations conform to the nature of mixed tide at the corresponding latitude. The underneath stratification is found to be more responsible for the generation of internal waves compared to the local stratification. This implies that the body forcing emanating from below is the cardinal contributor for the generation of internal waves. The numerical experiment with a flat and uniform bottom showing weak manifestation of internal waves endorses the same. This connotes that the continental slopes are an effective generator of the internal waves and the energy flux conversion of the barotropic tide to internal waves seems to be heavily dependent on the shoaling bottom.  相似文献

This paper describes the scenario matrix architecture that underlies a framework for developing new scenarios for climate change research. The matrix architecture facilitates addressing key questions related to current climate research and policy-making: identifying the effectiveness of different adaptation and mitigation strategies (in terms of their costs, risks and other consequences) and the possible trade-offs and synergies. The two main axes of the matrix are: 1) the level of radiative forcing of the climate system (as characterised by the representative concentration pathways) and 2) a set of alternative plausible trajectories of future global development (described as shared socio-economic pathways). The matrix can be used to guide scenario development at different scales. It can also be used as a heuristic tool for classifying new and existing scenarios for assessment. Key elements of the architecture, in particular the shared socio-economic pathways and shared policy assumptions (devices for incorporating explicit mitigation and adaptation policies), are elaborated in other papers in this special issue.  相似文献
