Total and subcellular hepatic Zn, Cu, Se, Mn, V, Hg, Cd, and Ag were determined in a mother-fetus pair of Dall's porpoises (Phocoenoides dalli). Except for higher fetal Cu concentration, all maternal elements were higher. Elements existed mostly in the cytosol of both animals except in the case of maternal Ag in the microsome and fetal Cu and Ag in the nuclei and mitochondria. In the maternal cytosol, Zn, Mn, Hg, and Ag were present in the high-molecular-weight substances (HMW); Se and V were present in the low-molecular-weight substances (LMW); Cu and Cd were mostly sequestered by metallothionein (MT). In the fetal cytosol, Zn, Se, Mn, Hg, Cd, and Ag were present in the HMW and V in the LMW, while Cu and Ag were mostly associated with MT. MT isoforms were characterized using the HPLC/ICP-MS. Two and four obvious peaks appeared in the maternal and fetal MT fractions, respectively. The highest elemental ion intensities were at a retention time of 7.8 min for the mother, and for the fetus the peak elemental ion intensities occurred at a retention time of 4.3 min, suggesting that different MT isoforms may be involved in elemental accumulation in maternal and fetal hepatocytosols.  相似文献

Unexpected chaotic features are found in time series of arrival time intervals of successive air showers with (E > 3 × 1014 eV). Over 99 % of air shower arrival time intervals obey the Poisson distribution law representing stochastic behaviors, but occasionally there are air showers showing real chaotic behaviors as distinguished from both random and colored noises. With two systems of the Kinki university installations, we found 13 cases showing chaotic time series in 3.36 yr with the system-1 and the 1.37 yr with the system-2. Five out of 10 chaotic air showers of the Kinki installation are detected during the same time zone also by the Osaka City university installation which is at 115 km distance from the Kinki one. In a remarkable example of September 19, 1991, the correlation dimension was observed to have dropped from about 4 to the minimum of 1.3 and recovered smoothly in about 38 h. The chaos structure in this case is detected in nearly the same time zone at the Ohya station of the Institute for Cosmic Ray Research, University of Tokyo, which is separated from the Kinki one by 460 km. Formation of chaos structure due to energetic cosmic ray dust particles is suggested. Progress of cosmic ray physics may be expected with the study of air showers marked with chaos.  相似文献

Abstract— The LEW 88774 ureilite is extraordinarily rich in Ca, Al, and Cr, and mineralogically quite different from other ureilites in that it consists mainly of exsolved pyroxene, olivine, Cr-rich spinel, and C. The presence of coarse exsolved pyroxene in LEW 88774 is unique because pyroxene in most other ureilites is not exsolved. The pyroxene has bulk Wo contents of 15–20 mol% and has coarse exsolution lamellae of augite and low-Ca pyroxene, 50 μm in width. The compositions of the exsolved augite (Ca33.7Mg52.8Fe13.5) and host low-Ca pyroxene (Ca4.4Mg75Fe20.6) show that these exsolution lamellae were equilibrated at 1280 °C. A computer simulation of the cooling rate, obtained by solving the diffusion equation for reproducing the diffusion profile of CaO across the lamellae, suggests that the pyroxene was cooled at 0.01 °C/year until the temperature reached 1160 °C. This cooling rate corresponds to a depth of at least 1 km in the parent body, assuming it was covered by a rock-like material. Therefore, LEW 88774 was held at this high temperature for 1.2 × 104years. The proposed cooling history is consistent with that of other ureilites with coarsegrained unexsolved pigeonites. Lewis Cliff 88774 includes abundant Cr-rich spinel in comparison with other ureilites. The range of FeO content of spinels in LEW 88774 is from 1.3 wt% to 21 wt% [Fe/(Fe + Mg) = 0.04–0.6]. The Cr-rich and Fe-poor spinel in LEW 88774 has less Fe (FeO, 1.3 wt%) than spinels in other achondrites. We classify this spinel as an Fe, Al-bearing picrochromite. Most ureilites are depleted in Ca and Al, but this meteorite has high-Ca and Al concentrations. In this respect, as well as mineral assemblage and the presence of coarse exsolution lamellae in pyroxene, LEW 88774 is a unique ureilite. Most differentiated meteorites are poor in volatile elements such as Zn, but the LEW 88774 spinels contain abundant Zn (up to 0.6 wt%). We note that such a high Zn concentration in spinel has been observed in the carbonaceous chondrites and recrystallized chondrites. This unusual ureilite has more primitive characteristics than most other ureilites.  相似文献

It was found that the heliographic longitudinal distribution of the occurrence of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) was not uniform around the solar minimum of cycle 21. This is confirmed by using the 2 test for goodness of fit. Sunspot groups and flares show similar non-uniform distributions during the same period. This suggests that there was a longitudinal range where both large-scale and small-scale solar magnetic activities were very low around the solar minimum of cycle 21. The longitudinal range with low activity was more than 150 degrees and continued for approximately four rotations. As solar activity increased, CMEs occurred almost uniformly in heliographic longitude.  相似文献

It is shown that the infrared flux method for determining stellar effective temperatures (Blackwell and Shallis 1977; Blackwell, Petford and Shallis 1980) can be applied to cool carbon stars. Although the spectra of cool carbon stars are highly line blanketed, the spectral region between 3 and 4 μm (L-band in the infrared photometry system) is found to be relatively free from strong line absorption. The ratioR L of bolometric flux toL flux can then be used as a measure of effective temperature. On the basis of the predicted line-blanketed flux based on model atmospheres, with an empirical correction for the effect of 3 μm absorption due to polyatomic species (HCN, C2H2), it is shown thatR L is roughly proportional to T3 eff. The high sensitivity ofR L to Teff makes it a very good measure of effective temperature, and the usual difficulty due to differential line blanketing effect in the analyses of photometric indices of cool carbon stars can be minimized. It is found that the majority of N-type carbon stars with small variability (SRb and Lb variables) are confined to the effective temperature range between 2400 and 3200 K, in contrast to M-giant stars (M0 III - M6 III, including SRb and Lb variables) that are confined to the effective temperature range between 3200 and 3900 K. The effective temperatures based on the infrared flux method show good agreement with those derived directly from angular diameter measurements of 5 carbon stars. On the basis of the new effective temperature scale for carbon stars, it is shown that the well known C-classification does not represent a temperature sequence. The absorption of solar five-min oscillations by sunspots is interpreted as the resonant absorption of sound waves by a magnetic cylinder. The absorption coefficient is calculated both analytically under certain simplifying assumptions, and numerically under more general conditions. The observed magnitude of the absorption coefficient, which is up to 0.5 or even more, can be explained for suitable ranges of parameters. By using nucleotide sequences of transfer RNA's, the endosymbiotic model for the origin of chloroplasts and mitochondria is examined. The endosymbiotic origin of the chloroplasts is confirmed, but concerning the origin of the mitochondria no conclusion can be drawn. Phyletic relations of euglenoids to higher plants and to animals are also discussed. Finally, phylogeny of fungi is discussed in terms of tRNA sequences and it is proposed that the classical taxonomy of fungi should be reconsidered in terms of molecular taxonomy or molecular paleontology.  相似文献

Abstract— Dar al Gani 476, the 13th martian meteorite, was recovered from the Sahara in 1998. It is a basaltic shergottitic rock composed of olivine megacrysts reaching 5 mm (24 vol%) set in a finegrained groundmass of pyroxene (59 vol%) and maskelynitized plagioclase (12 vol%) with minor amounts of accessory phases (spinel, merrillite, ilmenite). Dar al Gani 476 is similar to lithology A of Elephant Moraine A79001 (EETA79001) in petrography and mineralogy, but is distinct in several aspects. Low‐Ca pyroxenes in the Dar al Gani 476 groundmass are more magnesian (En76Fs21 Wo3~En58Fs30Wo12) than those in lithology A of EETA79001 (En73Fs22Wo5~En45Fs43Wo12), rather similar to pyroxenes in lherzolitic martian meteorites (En76Fs21 Wo3~En63Fs22Wo15). Dar al Gani 476 olivine is less magnesian and shows a narrower compositional range (Fo76‐58) than EETA79001 olivine (Fo81‐53), and is also similar to olivines in lherzolitic martian meteorites (Fo74‐65). The orthopyroxene‐olivine‐chromite xenolith typical in the lithology A of EETA79001 is absent in Dar al Gani 476. It seems that Dar al Gani 476 crystallized from a slightly more primitive mafic magma than lithology A of EETA79001 and several phases (olivine, pyroxene, chromite, and ilmenite) in Dar al Gani 476 may have petrogenetic similarities to those of lherzolitic martian meteorites. Olivine megacrysts in Dar al Gani 476 are in disequilibrium with the bulk composition. The presence of fractured olivine grains in which the most Mg‐rich parts are in contact with the groundmass suggests that little diffusive modification of original olivine compositions occurred during cooling. This observation enabled us to estimate the cooling rates of Dar al Gani 476 and EETA79001 olivines, giving similar cooling rates of 0.03‐3 °C/h for Dar al Gani 476 and 0.05‐5 °C/h for EETA79001. This suggests that they were cooled near the surface (burial depth shallower than about 3 m at most), probably in lava flows during crystallization of groundmass. As is proposed for lithology A of EETA79001, it may be possible to consider that Dar al Gani 476 has an impact melt origin, a mixture of martian lherzolite and other martian rock (Queen Alexandra Range 94201, nakhlites?).  相似文献

Summary. The space and time characteristics of earthquake sequences, including a main shock, aftershocks and the recurrence of major shocks in a long time range, are investigated on a frictional fault model with non-uniform strengths and relaxation times, which is subjected to a time-dependent shear stress. Aftershocks with low stress drop take place successively in spaced regions so as to fill the gaps which have not yet been ruptured since the main shock, while those with high stress drop occur in and around the regions left unruptured during the main faulting. The frequency decay of aftershocks with time follows a hyperbolic law with the rates p consistent with observations. There are good linear relations in logarithmic scales for source area versus frequency and seismic moment versus frequency of the generated aftershocks. The b -value obtained in the present experiments appears slightly larger than that for observations. It was found that more heterogeneous distribution of the fault strength give smaller p and larger b -values. The recurrence of major shocks, particularly of very large shocks with high stress drop, is often preceded by a completely silent period of activity or very low activity with a small number of foreshocks. The major shocks take place successively in adjacent unruptured regions and sometimes show slow-speed migrations. These results provide explanations to various observations of earthquake sequences.  相似文献

To investigate the relation between the rock friction and the fractal electromagnetic radiation before the main-shock of earthquakes, we conducted a friction experiment simulating the motion of an asperity on a fault plane, and observed photon emissions due to electric discharge by dielectric breakdown of ambient gases from friction contacts between rock minerals. This indicates that frictional discharges (plasma generations) could occur locally at microscopic asperities on fault surfaces. From concepts on the fractal size-distribution and temporal evolution of fault asperities, the frictional discharge occurring at asperities on the fault plane can be one of origins of the fractal electromagnetic radiation (Benioff electromagnetic radiation) prior to earthquakes.  相似文献
