High-K calc-alkaline, shoshonitic and ultrapotassic post-collisional dykes of Neogene age have been found in the remote and little known region of northern Karakorum located around the Shaksgam valley, north of the K2-Gasherbrum range (China). The dykes derive from more or less comparable basic magma(s) and display rather unusual petrographic and geochemical characters with respect to the other K-rich rocks. The geochemical data are consistent with derivation of the basic magma(s) from small degrees of partial melting of garnet-lherzolites previously enriched in incompatible elements of crustal origin possibly during the subduction of the Indian plate beneath Karakorum. The spectrum of compositions reflects fractional crystallization governed by an early removal of clinopyroxene, phlogopite, plagioclase, garnet±amphibole followed by the precipitation of abundant alkali feldspar, amphibole±apatite±quartz. Additionally, assimilation of crustal rocks during magma ascent contributed to the unusual compositional characteristics and is suggested by the abundance of corroded quartz ( ± plagioclase) xenocrysts and by the occasional presence of granitic xenoliths.

An apparent connection exists between magmatism and tectonism in the complex Karakorum Fault Zone (KFZ). It is suggested that, during the Neogene, the strike-slip KFZ and some adjacent post-metamorphic faults transiently behaved as extensional fault systems down to deep levels, triggering ascent and emplacement of the K-rich magma. The subsequent (re)activation of a compressive and transcurrent regime determined the rapid and recent uplift of the more primitive lamprophyres occurring in the plutonites and metamorphites of the upper Baltoro Glacier and K2-Gasherbrum range, relative to the more fractionated and contaminated lamprophyres injecting the shallower rocks of the Shaksgam valley area.  相似文献

The use of partial probability weighted moments (PPWM) for estimating hydrological extremes is compared to that of probability weighted moments (PWM). Firstly, estimates from at‐site data are considered. Two Monte Carlo analyses, conducted using continuous and empirical parent distributions (of peak discharge and daily rainfall annual maxima) and applying four different distributions (Gumbel, Fréchet, GEV and generalized Pareto), show that the estimates obtained from PPWMs are better than those obtained from PWMs if the parent distribution is unknown, as happens in practice. Secondly, the use of partial L‐moments (obtained from PPWMs) as diagnostic tools is considered. The theoretical partial L‐diagrams are compared with the experimental data. Five different distributions (exponential, Pareto, Gumbel, GEV and generalized Pareto) and 297 samples of peak discharge annual maxima are considered. Finally, the use of PPWMs with regional data is investigated. Three different kinds of regional analyses are considered. The first kind is the regression of quantile estimates on basin area. The study is conducted applying the GEV distribution to peak discharge annual maxima. The regressions obtained with PPWMs are slightly better than those obtained with PWMs. The second kind of regional analysis is the parametric one, of which four different models are considered. The congruence between local and regional estimates is examined, using peak discharge annual maxima. The congruence degree is sometimes higher for PPWMs, sometimes for PWMs. The third kind of regional analysis uses the index flood method. The study, conducted applying the GEV distribution to synthetic data from a lognormal joint distribution, shows that better estimates are obtained sometimes from PPWMs, sometimes from PWMs. All the results seem to indicate that using PPWMs can constitute a valid tool, provided that the influence of ouliers, of course higher with censored samples, is kept under control. As far as the dynamics of multibody systems is concerned, a brief review has been performed in order to frame the dynamic response of a trilith (the simplest scheme of a colonnade belonging to a temple) into a wide theoretical background. Under the assumption of rigid bodies, two different approaches can be found in the literature: rigid or deformable contacts formulation. In this paper, an effort is made at outlining the principle of rigid contact formulation and of deformable contact formulation. The latter approach can be assumed within the framework of the distinct element method; for this purpose a model of deformable contact has been proposed in order to simulate the real behaviour of stone joints. This paper reviews the historical development of both biogenic and non-biogenic petroleum formation. It also examines the recent claim that the so-called “abiotic” oil formation theory undermines the concept of “peak oil,” i.e. the notion that world oil production is destined to reach a maximum that will be followed by an irreversible decline. We show that peak oil is first and foremost a matter of production flows. Consequently, the mechanism of oil formation does not strongly affect depletion. We would need to revise the theory beyond peak oil only for the extreme — and unlikely — hypothesis of abiotic petroleum formation.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to evaluate whether the variability in the structure of the epiphytic assemblages of leaves and rhizomes of the Mediterranean seagrass Posidonia oceanica differed between depths at a large spatial scale. A hierarchical sampling design was used to compare epiphytic assemblages at two different depths (10 and 20 m) in terms of both species composition and abundance and patterns of spatial variability in the Tuscan Archipelago (North Western Mediterranean Sea, Italy). Results showed significant differences in the structure of assemblages on rhizomes and leaves at different depths. These differences were related to species composition and abundance; differences were not significant for total biomass, total percentage cover and percentage cover of animals and algae. Whereas the higher variability was observed among shoots in all the studied systems, patterns of spatial variability at the other spatial scales investigated differed between the two studied depths. Moreover, in the present study, analogous patterns between depths resulted for both the assemblages of leaves and rhizomes, suggesting that factors that change with depth can be responsible for the spatial variability of both the assemblages (leaves and rhizomes), and operate regardless of the microclimatic conditions and the structure of assemblages.  相似文献
