The aim was to introduce a new method, the DAZ method (drainage area zonation), to quantify environmental parameters, such as bedrocks, soil type, and land use in drainage areas. The work was carried out within the framework of the Swedish project Liming—mercury. Two important points in the project are that there are quantifiable relationships between the character of the drainage area and the lake and that several limnological and morphometric parameters may have an impact on the Hg content in fish. The DAZ method accounts for the fact that, for example, a certain soil type does not have an even distribution in the whole drainage area. To get a simple yet relevant measure of the influence of, for example, soil type on the lake character, the drainage areas were divided into zones using a special transparent paper placed on the map. The method gives normalized values depending on: (1) distance between the object and the given lake, (2) the main direction of water flow in the drainage area, and (3) the area of the environmental parameter (for example, area of bedrock). In the DAZ method, dot counting is used for determination of area. The dot-counting method has been compared with other methods for area determination (planimeter and square counting). Dot counting is the fastest and the counting of squares the most time consuming. The statistical reliabilities of the dot method and the planimeter method were compared. The planimeter is best for large homogeneous objects. Dot counting, on the other hand, is very well suited for heterogeneous objects. The statistical certainty of area determination depends on size, heterogeneity, and form of the objects, as well as the time dedicated to the determination. A nomogram is also given, which illustrates the relationship between the number of counts, that is, the number of times the transparent dotted paper is put on the map and the dots counted, the error in the area determination, and the statistical reliability.  相似文献

Inclusion of synthetic fibers is becoming a routine task in soil reinforcement. The ability of synthetic fibers in controlling the shrinkage cracks in concrete is the main drive to consider its benefits in clay and other soil materials. The polypropylene fibers are nonbiodegradable and can perform well even in aggressive chemical exposure conditions. The direct shear testing is a popular geotechnical approach to assess the shearing strength for a range of soils. This study is aimed at investigating the effect of fiber inclusion on the direct shear response of semi-arid clay soils. This research is conducted using two different types of polypropylene fibers, viz., Fibercast and Fibermesh, having different surface properties on the shear strength envelope and parameters (angle of internal friction and cohesion). The aspect lengths were varied as 6 and 12 mm, and the dosages were varied as 0.2, 0.4, and 0.6 % by weight of the soil. The results were viewed in relation to the fiber type, size, and dose. The soil response and shear resistance measured in consolidated undrained direct shear test is presented for the targeted doses, and the results revealed useful insight compared to unreinforced. The Fibermesh material proved to be the more appropriate fiber additive to typical semi-arid clay soils. The data provides helpful guide for the design geotechnical engineers.  相似文献

High-temperature (HT), Group A eclogites from three localities in the Moldanubian Zone of the Bohemian Massif are interpreted to have formed in the mantle and to have been transported into the crust by their enclosing garnet peridotites during Variscan orogenesis. Garnet and omphacite are compositionally zoned and contain homogeneous cores and retrograde rims. Cores of minerals yield minimum temperatures and pressures of 850 to 985°C and 16.0 to 22.5 kb, based on Fe–Mg exchange between garnet and clinopyroxene and the jadeite content of clinopyroxene. Sugh high temperatures indicate equilibration in, and derivation from, the upper mantle. Trace element compositions, including the REEs, high MgO contents, and high Mg numbers suggest that the rocks formed by high pressure accumulation of garnet and clinopyroxene and variable amounts of trapped melt. Sm-Nd ages determined on four garnet-clinopyroxene pairs from the three localities are 377±20, 342±9, 336±16, and 323±7 Ma. Nd and initial 87Sr/86Sr are negatively correlated, varying from +6.7 to -0.1 and 0.7027 to 0.7057, respectively. Field, compositional, and isotopic data indicate that the eclogites were derived from heterogeneous mantle that included depleted and enriched compositions; this heterogeneity may have resulted from subduction processes that occurred prior to the late Variscan collision of Gondwana and Baltica.  相似文献

The spectral energy distribution of the Seyfert type-2 galaxy Mk 348 is analyzed based on IUE observations and published data. It is found that most of the optical and near-IR flux comes from the underlying galaxy bulge population. The rest of the emission can be fitted by a power law of the formF v v with =0.6. In order to explain the X-ray emission this power law requires either a change of slope or a cutoff before 2 keV. The possibility that the emission originates in a young star cluster is discussed and a simple population synthesis model for the continuum of the galaxy is presented.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to enhance the understanding of the occurrence of flood‐generating events in urban areas by analysing the relationship between large‐scale atmospheric circulation and extreme precipitation events, extreme sea water level events and their simultaneous occurrence, respectively. To describe the atmospheric circulation, we used the Lamb circulation type (LCT) classification and re‐grouped it into Lamb circulation classes (LCC). The daily LCCs/LCTs were connected with rare precipitation and water‐level events in Aarhus, a Danish coastal city. Westerly and cyclonic LCCs (W, C, SW and NW) showed a significantly high occurrence of extreme precipitation. Similarly, for extreme water‐level events westerly LCCs (W and SW) showed a significantly high occurrence. Significantly low occurrence of extreme precipitation and water‐level events was obtained in easterly LCCs (NE, E and SE). For concurrent events, significantly high occurrence was obtained in LCC W. We assessed the change in LCC occurrence frequency in the future based on two regional climate models (RCMs). The projections indicate that the westerly directions in LCCs are expected to increase in the future. Consequently, simultaneous occurrence of extreme water level and precipitation events is expected to increase in the future as a result of change in LCC frequencies. The RCM projections for LCC frequencies are uncertain because the representation of current LCCs is poor; a large number of days cannot be classified and the frequencies of the days that can be classified differ from the observed time series. Focal-ratio degradation (FRD) of light launched into high-numerical aperture (NA) single-annulus all-silica undoped air-clad fibres at an NA of 0.54 is reported. The measured annular light distribution remained Gaussian after 30 m of propagation, but the angular FWHM of the output annulus doubled from 4° after 1 m propagation to 8.5° after 30 m, which is significantly larger than that reported of standard doped-silica fibres (NA < 0.22). No significant diffractive effects were observed. The design of air-clad fibres for broad-band, high-NA astrophotonics applications is discussed.  相似文献

Stream-water samples were collected during a 4-year-period in twosmall streams, one whose catchment was ditched for forestry halfway through the sampling period and another nearby reference stream whose catchment was not ditched during this period. The main aim was to study the impact of forest ditching on stream-water quality. Whereas the artificial drainage did not change the hydrograph pattern, it had a large effect on stream hydrochemistry: the concentrations of suspended material, Mn, Ca, Mg and Al increased, theconcentrations of total organic carbon decreased, and pH increased by approximately one unit, from an average of 4.4 to 5.4. The increase in suspended material, Mn and Al concentrations is explainedby the physical mobilisation of mineral particulates/colloids from mineral soils (till) exposed on the ditch slopes beneath the peat layer, while the increase in Ca and Mg loads is explained by the release of Ca2+ and Mg2+ in exchange reactions in this same soil layer. The increase in pH and decrease in TOC concentrations after ditching are related to changes in hydrological flow paths in the catchments, and most likely to immobilisation of both hydrogen ions and humic substances in the near neutral till horizon exposed beneath the peat layer. Only the aquatic abundance of Fewas not significantly affected by the ditching.  相似文献

The Falun gold quartz vein mineralization is located ca 230 km NW of Stockholm, Sweden, within the Early Proterozoic volcano-sedimentary sequence of Bergslagen. The mineralization consists of a system with subparallel quartz veins that crosscut the alteration zone to the Falun massive sulphide deposit. Early barren and late gold-bearing quartz veins follow tectonic structures postdating the formation of the massive sulphide ore. Both generations of veins are epigenetic to the massive sulphide ore and were formed by hydrothermal processes. Fluid inclusion study of the gold-bearing quartz veins indicates a low-moderately saline fluid (0.3 to 17.4 equiv wt% NaCl). Heterogeneous trapping is indicated by coexisting inclusions showing a variable CO2 content from 100% CO2 ± CH4 to 100% aqueous fluid. Temperatures of total homogenization also show a wide spread from 116–350°C with a slightly bimodal distribution with peaks at ca 180°C and 280°C. MeasuredδD values — 69 to — 63%0 (SMOW), of inclusion fluid and calculatedδ 18O values of hydrothermal fluids — 7.5 to — 1.4%0 (SMOW), strongly suggest a meteoric origin for the fluids. The quite consistentδD values and the range inδ 18O values indicate that major water-rock interaction led to the evolution inδ18O of the hydrothermal fluids.  相似文献
