Reduced amplitude and distorted dispersion of seismic waves caused by attenuation, especially strong attenuation, always degrade the resolution of migrated images. To improve seismic imaging, attenuation must be compensated. This study addresses the factors causing seismic attenuation in Jati Block. Jati Block lies in Lower Indus Basin, Pakistan, approximately 25 mi north of the offshore Indus. Method used for Q factor is empirical equation method. Q factor correlation indicates that there are three major zones of attenuation in Jati block, i.e., zone I (surface to top Khadro), zone II (Upper Goru Formation), and zone III (Lower Goru Formation). Lowest Q value is in zone I, followed by zone II and zone III, respectively. Commonly, Khadro Formation (Basalt) of Paleocene and saucer-shaped igneous intrusion is considered as sources of attenuation. However, surprisingly, Khadro Formation of Paleocene and saucer-shaped igneous intrusion is zone of minimum attenuation and causes minimal transmission loss. Anisotropy analysis is performed to determine cause of attenuation within these zones. Thomson anisotropic parameters are computed for vertical wells using Backus averaging algorithm. These parameters are calibrated using sonic scanner data available for one well. Correlation of Q factor curve with mud log suggests that loose, unconsolidated sands and sand-shale layering are sources of attenuation within zone I. Attenuation in this zone is mostly due to fluid motion relative to the framework of loosely packed grains. Major lithology of Upper Goru Formation is marl. It is a slow formation, and in this formation, P wave loses energy to the formation in what is known as leaky P mode (sonic logging) and is dispersive (seismic). Epsilon (?) value is greater than almost 0.02 throughout Lower Goru Formations, indicating that this formation is strongly anisotropic. Fluctuation of epsilon (?) in Lower Goru Formation also suggests that this formation is causing layer-induced anisotropy. This layer-induced anisotropy in Lower Goru Formation added by dispersive and slow nature of Upper Goru Formation causes rapid attenuation. 相似文献

The Ain Turck (Bouira) landslide, in north-center Algeria, is one of the numerous instabilities recorded along the Lakhdaria-Bouira section of the 1200-km-long east-west Algerian highway. The locality of Ain Turck is known for its unstable slopes characterized by a very rough morphology with steep slopes (20 to 25%). This slide threatens the inhabitants of the Ibournanen village, located down the unstable slope, where parts of some houses have fallen into ruin, while others are cracked. It is characterized by an active movement extending over a more or less important slope, of the order of a hundred meters. The land mobilized by this movement corresponds to the layer of shale clays and clays overlaid by a backfill, placed there following the east-west highway works. Geological, geomorphologic, and geotechnical analysis allows determining the soil instability probably related to earthworks during the construction of the highway section a few years earlier, followed by a particularly rainy season in 2012. Acquisitions of ambient seismic noise and H/V ratio processing, as well as the acquisition of an electrical resistivity profile at the instability site, have reinforced our preliminary interpretations of depth and geometry of the sliding surface. 相似文献

The area of Thal Doab is located in the Indus Basin and is underlain by a thick alluvial aquifer called the Thal Doab aquifer (TDA). The TDA is undergone intense hydrological stress owing to rapid population growth and excessive groundwater use for livestock and irrigated agricultural land uses. The potential impact of these land uses on groundwater quality was assessed using a DRASTIC model in a Geographic Information System environment. Seven DRASTIC thematic maps were developed at fixed scale and then combined into a groundwater vulnerability map. The resultant vulnerability index values were grouped into four zones as low, moderate, high and very high. The study has established that 76% of the land area that is underlain by the TDA has a high to very high vulnerability to groundwater contamination mainly because of a thin soil profile, a shallow water table and the presence of soils and sediments with high hydraulic conductivity values. In addition, only 2 and 22% of the total area lie in low and moderate vulnerability zones, respectively. Sedimentary facies of the Tsagayan Formation is distributed in the eastern Zeya-Bureya Basin has been analyzed. The formation is of the Maastrichtian to Danian in age and characterized by the cyclicity of the fining-upwards successions. Analysis of environmental changes during the K/T boundary is the focus of this study. Five facies have been identified: Facies A, thick and laterally extensive coarse-grained to medium-grained sandstone units, interpreted as channelfill deposits; Facies B, parallel-laminated to massive mudstone units interpreted as interchannel lakes and flood plain deposits; Facies C, sheet-like medium-grained to fine-grained sandstones interpreted as crevasse splay deposits;Facies D, coal to coaly mudstone beds interpreted as deposits ofpeatlands; Facies E, very poorly sorted sandy mudstone beds interpreted as debris flow deposits. Fluvial environments with the low-relief flat topography was inferred. A channel transported large volumes of clasts, and a flood basin with interchannel lakes and peatlands was deciphered. Any distinct change of sedimentary environments has not been identified throughout the Tsagayan Formation (including the K/T boundary). However, two beds of debris flow deposits were identified. The Straits of Malacca is subjected to a great variety of environmental stresses due to its strategic location as a major international shipping lane and the concentration of agriculture, industry and urbanisation which predominate on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Globally, shrimp farming has been a significant agro-based economic activity since the early 1970s. Because it offered a huge immediate economic return, shrimp farming showed a booming expansion and soon became a multimillion dollar industry. However, it has been under extreme criticism because of its devastating ecological and socio-economic impacts. Because seed is the primary input, the impact from farming has started from the source of seed supply, so that not only are natural stocks of shrimp seeds now overexploited worldwide but seed collection activities also significantly reduce stocks of other living resources. Although hatcheries were developed as potential alternative and have replaced the natural seed source to a great extent, large-scale hatchery productions provide a potential source of coastal pollution. However, this area is still poorly studied. A simple relationship has been developed between the wall coordinate y+ and Kolmogorov's length scale using direct numerical simulation (DNS) data for a steady boundary layer. This relationship is then utilized to modify two popular versions of low Reynolds number k–ε model. The modified models are used to analyse a transitional oscillatory boundary layer. A detailed comparison has been made by virtue of velocity profile, turbulent kinetic energy, Reynolds stress and wall shear stress with the available DNS data. It is observed that the low Reynolds number models used in the present study can predict the boundary layer properties in an excellent manner. 相似文献
